Caesar is dead, and a power vacuum is about to engulf the Republic. It's 41 AD, and you are one of nine contenders willing to do anything to transform the chaos into a personal Empire.
It's a board game of social deduction and political intrigue, housed in the iconic book-shaped box that made the Dark Cities series iconic. In less than forty minutes, you'll have to forge alliances, collect secret votes, and backstab your neighbors before they backstab you.
The beauty of Rome XLI lies in its balance of paranoia and mathematical calculation: every card played face down is a vote to exile someone, every card revealed is an action to save your own skin.
It's the game for those who love Secret Hitler or The Resistance but are looking for something faster, more tactical and cruel, where there are no fixed teams but only momentary interests.

In the heart of Rome XLI, there's no room for mercy: each turn you must decide whether to act in the open or plot in the shadows. The game system forces you to choose between strengthening your influence or voting for the direct elimination of a troublesome opponent.
Tension builds as the dice roll inexorably advances the marker toward the Exile phase. When the showdown begins, the hidden votes are revealed and whoever has the most enemies is removed from the board, leaving their gold and power to the survivor.
Managing your gold is vital: it allows you to buy extra shares and manipulate the outcome of the vote. But be careful, accumulating too much wealth will make you the prime target of all the other jealous senators.
Where it rewards you
Use face-down cards to vote for exile or play them face-up to activate immediate special powers.
Accumulate coins to multiply your actions, but remember that greed always attracts daggers.
Protect yourself from exile by deploying legions, your only defense against a coalition that wants you dead.
Neutral (or eliminated) players continue to influence the game, making the table always dangerous.
Each turn the die can accelerate the end of the phase, forcing you to change strategy instantly.
The map progressively shrinks until only one emperor remains to rule the ashes.
