Caesar is dead on the Senate floor. You play a face-down card, vote in secret to exile someone, then strike an alliance with the person who will betray you in five minutes.
WHAT IT IS
The book that hides a power struggle in ancient Rome
Roma XLI is the sixth installment in Facade Games' Dark Cities Series, a collection of board games disguised as antique books. Designed by Travis Hancock with illustrations by A. Giroux, the game takes us to Rome in 41 AD, when Caesar has just been assassinated and nine real historical figures (Octavian, Antony, Cleopatra, and others) compete for control of the Republic. The box itself is a faux magnetic book that opens to reveal the board, cards, and tokens.
At the table, each person plays one of the nine contenders. Each turn, you play a card: face-down as a secret vote to exile an opponent or as a protective legion, or face-up as an action or permanent bonus. Then, you roll the die and move the exile marker. When it reaches a red space, the votes are revealed and the person with the most votes is exiled (unless they are protected by a legion). Exiled players can re-enter the game or become devoted followers of another player. The last Roman standing on the map wins.
What they're saying abroad
"Outlast every Roman in the room."
Outlast every Roman in the room.
— Facade Games
Roma XLI promises to bring the paranoid tension of social deduction into a timed voting system. The campaign has gathered thousands of copies, but at the time of writing, the game does not yet have verifiable reviews. This file is based on the official description and will be updated after the first community games.

Roma XLI
The game includes a 1-player mode, but social deduction and bluffing are the heart of the experience: playing alone means losing exactly what makes Roma XLI special. The mode exists, but it's a technical adaptation, not an experience designed for solo play.
Tools of power
What you have in hand to conquer Rome
Secret votes
Each card played face-down is a vote to exile an opponent. You don't know who voted for whom until the reveal, and that's when you find out who betrayed you.
Protective legions
A face-down card can also be a legion that protects you from exile. Bluffing or defending: every face-down card is an unknown to the others.
Face-up actions
Playing a card face-up gives you an immediate action or a permanent bonus for your character. Visible power, but no secret vote that turn.
Exile die
Each turn ends with a die roll that advances the exile marker. When it reaches a red space, votes are counted and someone leaves the table.

MECHANICS AND STRATEGY
CONSPIRACY AND POISONS
Survive the Ides of March or be forgotten.
In the heart of Rome XLI, there's no room for mercy: each turn you must decide whether to act in the open or plot in the shadows. The game system forces you to choose between strengthening your influence or voting for the direct elimination of a troublesome opponent.
Tension builds as the dice roll inexorably advances the marker toward the Exile phase. When the showdown begins, the hidden votes are revealed and whoever has the most enemies is removed from the board, leaving their gold and power to the survivor.
Managing your gold is vital: it allows you to buy extra shares and manipulate the outcome of the vote. But be careful, accumulating too much wealth will make you the prime target of all the other jealous senators.
Where it rewards you
Use face-down cards to vote for exile or play them face-up to activate immediate special powers.
Accumulate coins to multiply your actions, but remember that greed always attracts daggers.
Protect yourself from exile by deploying legions, your only defense against a coalition that wants you dead.
Neutral (or eliminated) players continue to influence the game, making the table always dangerous.
Each turn the die can accelerate the end of the phase, forcing you to change strategy instantly.
The map progressively shrinks until only one emperor remains to rule the ashes.
Where it tests you
Roma XLI is a bluffing and deduction board game that rewards the ability to read the group and strike at the right time. Perfect for fans of card games with secret identities and player elimination mechanics, it offers an intense experience where table diplomacy matters more than the rules themselves.
