D&D 2024 (5.5e) Reference Monster Cards
Monsters: Mystical and Menacing (CR 0-5)
"Something ancient stirs in the dark of the cave. It's not a wolf. You draw the card, read its immunities, and realize tonight the party will have to work for it."
What it is about
When the encounter becomes supernatural, the right monster is already in the Master's hand
Monsters: Mystical and Menacing is the official deck of D&D 2024 reference monster cards dedicated to magical and unsettling creatures: beings that turn a walk in the woods into something much stranger. It is part of the D&D Reference Cards line, with updated statistics to the 5.5e ruleset and the new Monster Manual.
Inside the box you'll find 126 stat cards for creatures from CR 0 to 5, divided into celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and monstrosities, plus one instruction card. Each card features complete stats and a large illustration: precisely the creatures with the most peculiar abilities become easy to manage on the fly.
Monsters: Mystical and Menacing cards serve one specific purpose: to bring autonomous magical enemies to the table, ready both during preparation and gameplay, without flipping through the manual. An important note: the deck is in English, so names and stats must be read in English.
The FroGames Look
The essence of these cards in one line
These are the creatures with immunities, resistances, and strange powers: having them on cards is precisely where a reference deck makes the biggest difference.
From tabletop experience
A fiend or a monstrosity have half a page of rules: with the card in hand, the plot twist remains intact, without pauses to consult the manual.
Four tables, one deck
Who this deck is really for
It's the Dungeon Master's tool for encounters that go beyond the ordinary. Here's who gets the most out of it.
If you are a Dungeon Master
Mystical creatures have complex traits: immunities, resistances, spells, special abilities. Having them on cards means managing combat without stopping to look up every rule in the Monster Manual.
If your campaign is magical
Fiends, fey, elementals, and celestials are the spice of stories that go beyond the woods and bandits. This is the deck you open when the adventure takes a supernatural turn.
If your table wants pace
Even with creatures with intricate abilities, combat doesn't get bogged down. Pull out the card, you have everything in front of you, and the encounter maintains tension and mystery without slowing down.
If you love physical material
The large illustrations of these creatures are among the most evocative in the bestiary. Showing them to players when the threat appears makes the encounter unforgettable.
D&D Monsters: Mystical and Menacing (CR 0-5)
What you'll find in the box
Five creature families, 127 cards in total
Celestials and Elementals
8 cards for celestial creatures and 22 for elementals: divine messengers and unleashed forces of nature, with resistances and powers often decisive in combat.
20 Fey Creatures
Beings from the Feywild: capricious, deceptive, rarely what they seem. Perfect for campaigns where magic is mischievous.
30 Fiends
The infernal category: evil enemies with fearsome immunities and traits. The threats that raise the stakes when the story takes a dark turn.
46 Monstrosities
The most numerous group: aberrant and unnatural creatures, with the strangest abilities in the bestiary. The unsettling heart of this deck.
Honesty first
What you will NOT find inside the box
We'll tell you before you buy. This is the "Mystical and Menacing" deck from the monster line, dedicated to magical creatures. Here's what it does not contain.
Common Animals and NPCs
Wolves, bears, bandits, and guards are not here. Natural creatures and everyday humanoids are in the "Animals and NPCs" deck, sold separately.
The fiercest and most iconic monsters
The great enemies for epic confrontations are collected in the "Fearsome and Ferocious" deck. This deck focuses on the magical and unsettling side of the bestiary.
The D&D rules
It is not a standalone game. To play, you need a copy of D&D 2024 at the table. The cards provide monster statistics, not the complete ruleset.
Italian translation
The cards are in English. Mystical creatures have longer texts, so language proficiency matters more than with animals. Keep this in mind before buying.
Player material
This is a Dungeon Master's tool. Players do not use these cards for characters: they are for whoever manages the monsters at the table.
Protective sleeves
Sleeves are not included. The cards are sturdy, but if you frequently handle the same creatures, consider protecting the most used ones separately.
No surprises
To use them tonight, you only need this
✅ You need…
- This deck, already divided by creature family
- A copy of D&D 2024 at the table for the rules
- Knowledge of English to read the cards
- A campaign ready to turn supernatural
❌ You do NOT need…
- Apps or digital subscriptions
- Photocopying statblocks from the manual
- The other monster decks to start
- Mandatory sleeves to play
These creatures thrive on immunities, resistances, and special abilities: keep the cards divided by family (celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, monstrosities) so you can quickly find the right one for the scene's tone. Monstrosities and fiends are best used as the central encounter of a session: prepare the card in advance, reread the traits once, and then let the creature surprise the table.
"Beasts players understand. It's what crawls beyond the torchlight that takes their breath away."

D&D 2024 (5.5e)
The statistics follow the updated 2024 rules and the new Monster Manual. This is the official line that inherits the old reference cards.
The core rulebooks
You need a copy of D&D 2024 at the table for combat rules. The cards provide ready stat blocks, not the complete rules.
English
Creature names and statistics are in English. The Dungeon Master reads the card and describes the encounter to the players in the language of the table.
Five moments at the table
How a supernatural encounter flows with the deck in hand
The air changes
Players notice something is off: a strange light, an unnatural silence. This is no ordinary enemy.
You draw the right card
Demon, fairy, or monstrosity: you find it in the deck, divided by family, with immunities, resistances, and powers readily visible.
You reveal the creature
You show the illustration and describe the horror. Players realize that their usual tactics might not be enough.
Manage special abilities
Fire resistance, innate spells, conditions: everything is on the card. No manual pauses, the threat remains credible.
It lingers in memory
After the combat, that creature becomes a part of the table's memories. A strange and tense encounter is worth ten ordinary ones.
How to organize an encounter
From preparation to scene in four steps
Choose the creature
Select the card by family and CR depending on the tone you want: fae threat, aberrant horror, or elemental fury.
Review the traits
A quick glance at the special abilities before the session and you're ready to play them without hesitation during the encounter.
Manage combat
Immunities, resistances, spells, and attacks are all on the card. The pace doesn't drop even with the most complex creatures.
Put away and reuse
The card goes back into the deck, ready for the next time you want to bring that threat back to the table.

Real questions
The questions you're asking yourself
What's the difference with the Animals and NPCs deck?
The two decks are divided by creature type, not by level: both cover the CR 0-5 range. "Animals and NPCs" collects everyday beasts and humanoids, while this deck brings together magical and unsettling creatures (celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, monstrosities). They are complementary: together they cover a large part of the bestiary at the table.
Are the cards in Italian?
No, the cards are in English. Mystical creatures have longer texts than animals, so language proficiency matters more. The Dungeon Master reads the card and describes the encounter to the players in the table's language.
Are they for players or just the DM?
They are a Dungeon Master's tool. Players don't use them for characters: they are for the person managing the monsters. The only thing you share with the table is the creature's illustration, if you want to reveal its appearance.
Which creatures are included and up to what CR?
The deck contains 8 celestials, 22 elementals, 20 fey creatures, 30 fiends, and 46 monstrosities, for a total of 126 complete stat blocks with challenge ratings from CR 0 to 5. It's the magical and unsettling side of the bestiary.
Do they work with the old 5e from 2014?
They are designed for D&D 2024 (5.5e) and the new Monster Manual. Several creatures have been revised compared to the 2014 5e: some values might not exactly match the manuals of the old edition.
Can I use them with D&D Beyond or digital tools?
Yes. The cards are physical and independent of digital tools: many Dungeon Masters manage their campaign on tablets but still keep monster cards for speed at the table and to show illustrations to players.
D&D Monsters: Mystical and Menacing Reference Cards are the official Wizards of the Coast accessory for Dungeons & Dragons 2024 (5.5e), designed to bring autonomous magical enemies to the table, ready for preparation and during play. The deck includes 126 stat cards with challenge ratings from CR 0 to 5 (8 celestials, 22 elementals, 20 fey creatures, 30 fiends, and 46 monstrosities) plus an instruction card, for a total of 127 English-language cards with large illustrations. Part of the new D&D Reference Cards line that replaces Spellbook Cards, it is the second of three monster decks and the ideal tool for managing supernatural encounters without opening the Monster Manual. Compatible with the D&D 2024 ruleset, recommended age 12+, available on FroGames.it.
