The FroGames Sheet
You have water for three turns. Maybe four if you sacrifice defense. The boss advances, the minions surround you. You lock a command into your backup plan, then another. At the end of the round, you unleash everything at once. Someone at the table whistles.
WHAT IT IS
A Gearloc that controls the battlefield through water
Too Many Bones - Gasket is a character expansion for Too Many Bones, designed by Adam and Josh J. Carlson and published by Chip Theory Games in 2018. Art by Anthony LeTourneau. Gasket is a Hydromech: a melee-range Gearloc that relies on water to activate its most powerful abilities. It starts with very high defense and minimal attack, but builds its arsenal turn by turn.
You play a tactical progression where every unlocked die offers you new options: you manipulate enemy positions, increase your stats, and block their abilities. The heart of the character is the backup plan, a system that allows you to chain commands and unleash them all at once. When your dice hit the placed skills, you activate devastating alternative effects. Gasket works great both solo and cooperatively.
What they say abroad
"Gasket turns resource management into a tactical weapon. Every drop of water is a decision."
Gasket transforms resource management into a tactical weapon. Every drop of water is a decision.

Too Many Bones - Gasket
Too Many Bones is designed for solo play as much as for cooperative play. Gasket in solo offers the complete experience: you manage your dice pool, plan command chains, and face tyrants. No automa mechanics, you simply play against the encounter deck. The only difference is that you lose synergy with other Gearlocs, but Gasket is so versatile that it compensates on its own.
Your arsenal
What makes Gasket unique
Water system
Your most powerful skills consume water. You have little of it, you must choose when to spend it. Wasting water on an unlucky roll leaves you vulnerable for two turns.
Backup plan
You lock commands (defense, attack, repair, crowd control) and activate them all at once. The more you chain, the more devastating the effect. The moment you unleash everything is pure satisfaction.
21 custom dice
Every unlocked die opens up new tactics. You get to roll 6 dice per turn, all with unique faces. The progression is tangible: every game you feel the character grow.
Asymmetrical stats
You start with maximum defense and minimal attack. You are a controlling tank, not a damage dealer. You must build attack or play with positioning and debuffs.

🎲How to PlayThe rules in four steps▼
How to Play
The flow of each round
Gasket follows the standard Too Many Bones structure: each round is a cycle of development, combat, and progression.
You roll your dice (you start with 4, go up to 6). Each result gives you development points. You spend them to unlock new skill dice or boost your stats. Each choice changes your arsenal for the rest of the game.
Draw a baddie card. Resolve the encounter: enemies act according to their cards, you use your skills. Manage water: every powerful skill consumes it. If it runs out, you are limited to basic actions.
During combat, you can lock commands in the backup plan instead of executing them immediately. At the end of the round, you unleash them all at once for a combined effect. The more you chain, the more powerful the result.
After each encounter, collect loot, heal damage, choose the next destination on the map. The campaign scales: the further you go, the deadlier the baddies. You reach the final tyrant with a complete build. You win or lose everything.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup and first choices
Choose Gasket from the available Gearlocs. Take their neoprene mat, the 11.5-gram chip, the dice holder. Read their starting skills. You immediately understand that you'll need to manage water as a precious resource. The first dice roll gives you your initial development points.
First encounters
You face the first baddies. Gasket starts slow: high defense, low attack. You use your basic skills to manipulate positions, lower enemy defense. You start to understand the chain: I lock a command in the backup plan, then another. On the third turn, you unleash them all. It works. Someone at the table smiles.
Build in progress
You have unlocked 3-4 dice. Now you need to choose the direction of the build: focus on crowd control? Attack boost? Repair? Each die changes your style. You start to see the synergies: this die activates that effect if you have already placed that skill. Water is always scarce. Every turn is a calculation.
The legendary moment
You are surrounded. Three baddies, the tyrant one turn away from a devastating attack. You have enough water for one last round. You lock defense, attack, crowd control. You roll the dice. The results align. You unleash everything: stun two enemies, absorb the tyrant's blow, counterattack for 12 damage. The table explodes. This is Gasket.
Final Boss
The tyrant is at its last health. You are at 2 health points. You have one water die left, no active backup plan. Everything depends on this roll. You cast. Double attack symbol. It's over. You put the dice away one by one, slowly. Someone says "another one?". Everyone nods.

Good to know beforehand
Three things you need to know
Requires the base game
Gasket is a character expansion. You cannot play it without the Too Many Bones base game. You need the complete system: encounter deck, tyrant, core rules, map. If you don't have the base game, start with that.
Steep learning curve
Too Many Bones is not entry-level. Gasket in particular has a command chain system that requires multi-turn planning. The first 2-3 games you will feel overwhelmed. That's normal. From the fourth, it starts to click.
Punishing water management
If you waste water on the wrong turns, you will find yourself inert when needed. The system is tight: you have no margin for error. You must learn when to spend and when to save. The first defeats will be due to lack of resources, not bad luck.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
Victory and defeat
A Too Many Bones campaign ends when you defeat the tyrant or when all Gearlocs fall.
Victory
- Defeat the final tyrant by reducing its health to zero
- Survive all encounters until the boss
- Complete the tyrant's specific objectives (some have alternative conditions)
Defeat
- Gasket falls to zero health and you have no way to repair yourself
- Run out of the encounter deck without having defeated the tyrant
- Fail a critical condition during a special event
Gasket is for those who love to build devastating combos and control the field. If you want an immediate character, look elsewhere. If you want tactical mastery, this is him.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Too Many Bones - Gasket
Can I play Gasket without ever having played Too Many Bones?
Technically yes, but it is not recommended. Gasket is one of the more complex Gearlocs: the command chain system already requires mastery of the basic rules. It's better to start with the core characters (Boomer, Patches, Tantrum) to learn the system, then move on to Gasket. If you are already experienced with dice builders, you can try, but expect a steep curve.
What mechanics does Too Many Bones - Gasket use?
Dice building (you build your custom dice pool), resource management (water), position manipulation, hand management applied to the backup plan (choose which commands to lock and when to unleash them). Cooperative system with encounter deck, scenario campaign, permanent progression during the game.
How long does a complete campaign with Gasket last?
A complete campaign (from start to final tyrant) lasts 90-120 minutes solo, up to 2 hours with 3-4 players. The time depends on how many encounters you face on the map and how long you take for tactical decisions. The first games will be longer.
Is Gasket more difficult than other Gearlocs?
Yes, it is considered one of the most complex. The reliance on water and the command chain system require long-term planning. It does not forgive resource management errors. If you are looking for an immediate character, Boomer or Patches are more straightforward. Gasket rewards with tactical versatility, but requires practice.
