FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Creature Comforts · River Market — Mini Expansions Pack
Two modules, two different ways to ruin your day at the market: one puts a fishing rod in your hand and asks how greedy you are. The other makes you believe your stall is special.
What it's about
Two small modules that change the questions you ask yourself every turn
River Market is the standalone game set in the cozy world of Creature Comforts: designed by Roberta Taylor, illustrated by Daisy Ingrosso, published by KTBG. 1 to 4 critters move around the market rondel, activate the buildings they stop on, hire helpers, and open their own stalls. About 35 minutes, and the market closes.
This Mini Expansions Pack collects two modules that started as Kickstarter campaign stretch goals and are now available in stores in limited quantities. They are independent: you can add one, the other, or both.
Fishing Derby brings a push-your-luck mini-game to the market with 32 Fish cards: you fish, and with each fish you pull up, you have to decide whether to stop or try again. Daily Specials, on the other hand, works on your stalls, giving you cards to upgrade and customize them — so two games of River Market are never the same.
The secret of this pack in one line
A cozy game that at some point looks you in the eyes and asks: "another fish, or are you content?". That's the moment when a day at the market stops being relaxing.
The secret of the Mini Expansions Pack in one line
FroGames rule: expansions are only recommended for those who have already played the base game extensively. If you don't have River Market yet, start there — these cards will be waiting for you.
From the game experience
What's in the box
Two modules, to be used together or separately
A push-your-luck mini-game within the market: you cast your line and pull up one fish after another, but each additional card is an additional risk. Do you stop with what you've caught, or do you try to bring home the big one?
- 32 cards with fish of different species and values
- The classic tension of "just one more and then I'll stop"
- The module that breaks the peaceful rhythm of the rondel
Your stalls are no longer all the same. Special cards allow you to improve and characterize them, giving each game a different direction from the very first turns around the market.
- Cards to upgrade and customize Booths
- More strategic variety without overcomplicating the rules
- The module that increases the replayability of the base game
- You already own River Market and have played a few games
- You want your stalls to be different from one game to the next
- You enjoy the moment when a peaceful game becomes a gamble
- You don't own River Market: this pack alone plays nothing
- You haven't played the base game three or four times yet: start there
- Push-your-luck irritates you: half the pack is not for you
No FrogScore on this sheet: the score is for the game, not the modules. Here, compatibility, content, and honesty matter.
The market used to be a peaceful place. Then someone organized a fishing contest.
The game they expand
River Market, in two minutes
If you've arrived here without knowing the base game, this is what you're expanding. And it's the game you need to buy first.
River Market is the standalone game set in the cozy world of Creature Comforts: Roberta Taylor on rules, Daisy Ingrosso on illustrations, KTBG on publishing. 1 to 4 critters, about 35 minutes.
You move on the rondel and activate the building you stop on. Where you stop decides what you get — and how far you can go in the next round.
You hire employees and open your businesses, adding them to the market. The board grows and changes as you play: no two games have the same map.
The day ends sooner than you thought. The winner is whoever contributed most to the growth of River Market — and whoever navigated it best.
How games change
What these two modules really add
A gamble within a peaceful game
Fishing Derby introduces push-your-luck: you draw a card, then decide whether to stop or draw another. It's the moment a cozy evening bares its teeth — and someone, inevitably, pulls too many fish.
Stalls that are finally yours
With Daily Specials, Booths stop being interchangeable: you personalize the best ones, and your strategy takes a definite direction from the first rounds of the rondel.
Modular: you choose how much
The two modules are independent. Add only customized stalls if you want more variety without chaos; add only the derby if you're looking for tension; use both when the table is ready.
Content born on Kickstarter
Both mini-expansions were exclusive stretch goals of the campaign. This pack brings them to shelves — and KTBG itself speaks of limited quantities.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about the River Market Mini Expansions Pack
Can I play it without River Market?
No, and we prefer to write it big: this is not a game box. These are two mini-expansions for River Market (KTBG). Without the base game, you'll find very nice cards inside and nothing else. If you don't have River Market, buy that first.
Do I have to use both together?
No. Fishing Derby and Daily Specials are independent modules: you add them separately or together, as you prefer. Our advice is to introduce them one at a time, after a few games of the base game — so you truly understand what changes.
What exactly is the Fishing Derby?
A push-your-luck mini-game with 32 Fish cards: you draw, and for each fish you pull up, you must choose whether to be content or try again. It's the module that brings risk into an otherwise very peaceful game — and the reason someone, sooner or later, will be left with an empty line.
What about the Daily Specials?
These are cards that allow you to improve and customize your stalls (Booths). In practice, they give each player their own economic identity within the market, increasing variety between games without complicating the rules.
Are these the same expansions from the Kickstarter campaign?
Yes: both were stretch goals of the campaign and appeared in the Deluxe edition. This pack makes them available to those who didn't participate — in limited quantities, as indicated by KTBG. The pack does not include the Wolf and Rowboat micro-expansions, which are different content.
Is knowledge of English required?
The cards are in English. The language is simple and repetitive, in line with the base game: with school-level English, you can play without problems, and generally, reading the cards once before the first game is enough.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who illustrated it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
River Market Mini Expansions Pack collects two mini-expansions for River Market, the standalone game set in the world of Creature Comforts, designed by Roberta Taylor with illustrations by Daisy Ingrosso and published by KTBG (Kids Table Board Gaming). Fishing Derby adds 32 Fish cards for a push-your-luck mini-game; Daily Specials adds Special cards to improve and customize your stalls (Booths). The two modules are independent and can be used separately or together. Both originated as stretch goals for the Kickstarter campaign and are now available in a retail edition. Requires the River Market base game (1–4 players, approx. 35 minutes, rondel with board building). English edition. Available on FroGames.it.
