The Vigilante is staring at you. Did you lie well? Did you sell the right role? In thirty seconds someone will shoot, and you’ll find out if your lie held up.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A traitor hunt that lasts as long as a coffee break
Mafia Blitz is designed by Mark Iradian, a contributor to Meeple Mountain, and illustrated by Jordi Planellas. Funded on Kickstarter in 2026, the game reverses the classic social deduction formula: here you choose your role instead of randomly drawing it. One game, 10-15 minutes, no elimination. Set in the 1920s underworld, each round is a tense hunt for the Rat, the informant who wants to bring down the boss's empire.
Players draft their secret roles, choosing who they want to be and what they risk. One player is the Vigilante, a public role with one mission: to ensure the Rat is not hit. Everyone else has their own agendas. Every game is a tense showdown, full of bluffs and misdirection. Some roles cooperate, others clash. And no one really knows who is on their side until the final shot.

Mafia Blitz is a game that just came out of Kickstarter. The numbers on BGG are still low, independent reviews are very few. This sheet is based on official materials and will be updated when we have actually played.

What's in the box
Roles, lies, and a single bullet
Role Cards
<cite index="15-7">Each role has its own win condition and enough information to help or mislead</cite>. You draw two, keep one. The choice is yours.
The Vigilante
<cite index="3-3,20-2">A public role with one mission: to prevent the Rat from being hit</cite>. They have the Verdict cards and the final say on who to shoot.
The Rat
The informant everyone is looking for. If he is hit, some factions win. If he escapes, others do. No one knows who he is until it's all over.
Verdict Cards
The Vigilante places them in front of the suspects. When he says "Bang!", the marked players reveal their roles. Then the Goons shoot. Or chaos erupts.

How to play
The flow of each game
Mafia Blitz is played in a single round divided into precise phases. No turns, no elimination, just growing tension.
<cite index="15-21,15-22,15-23,15-24,15-25">Starting with the player to the Vigilante's left, each player draws the top two cards from the deck, chooses one as their secret role, and places the other face down on top of the deck. No shuffling. Then pass the deck to the left. Continue until everyone has a role</cite>.
<cite index="15-27,15-28">Everyone closes their eyes, including the Vigilante. The Vigilante reads the Night Phase script aloud</cite>. Those with roles with night abilities (like the Stranger) silently wake up, act, and go back to sleep.
Everyone opens their eyes and starts talking. You can say what you drafted, what you passed, lie, accuse. The Vigilante can impose silence or block cross-talk. Place the Verdict cards in front of the suspects.
The Vigilante says "Bang!". Players with Verdict cards in front of them reveal their roles. Unhit Goons reveal themselves and attempt to shoot the Rat. Each role's victory conditions are checked. Someone wins, someone loses, everyone wants to play again.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose whom to betray
<cite index="15-21,15-22,15-24">The draft begins: you draw two role cards, keep one secret, and put the other face down on the deck. Then you pass the deck to the left</cite>. You already have the lie you'll tell in mind. Or maybe not.
Night of exchanges
<cite index="15-27,15-28,15-29">Everyone closes their eyes. The Vigilante reads the script. Whoever has the Stranger silently wakes up, swaps their role with the card in the center, and peeks at another card</cite>. No one knows what really happened.
Accusations fly
Everyone opens their eyes and starts talking. Who did you pass? What role did you draft? Are you lying or being truthful? The Vigilante listens, takes mental notes, places Verdict cards in front of those who smell of lies.
The Bang moment
The Vigilante says "Bang!". Players with a Verdict card in front of them reveal their roles. If there are unhit Goons, they wake up and try to shoot the Rat. This is the legendary moment: all lies collapse in ten seconds.
Who really won?
Is the Rat alive or dead? Did the Vigilante fail or protect the informant? Each role checks its own victory condition. Someone cheers, someone curses, someone immediately asks for another game.

What to know beforehand
Three honest things
Requires a talkative group
If the group is shy or silent, Mafia Blitz won't take off. The game thrives on accusations, bluffs, and cross-talk. With passive players, it becomes flat. It only works if everyone gets involved.
The draft can unbalance
You draw two cards and choose one, but the draft order matters. Whoever drafts first has more choice; whoever drafts last gets what's left. It's not purely random, but not perfectly balanced either.
15 minutes if you're lucky
The stated duration is 10-15 minutes, but with large or chatty groups, it can stretch longer. If someone monopolizes the discussion, the Vigilante must manage the time or it will run over.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each role has different victory conditions. Some want the Rat dead, others alive, others have secret agendas. When the Vigilante says Bang, it's checked who won.
Victory
- The Vigilante wins if the Rat is not hit by anyone
- The Goons win if the Rat is hit (by the Vigilante or them)
- Some special roles win if they meet unique conditions (e.g., survive, cause someone else to shoot, etc.)
Defeat
- The Vigilante loses if the Rat is hit
- The Goons lose if the Rat escapes unharmed
- Roles with personal agendas lose if conditions are not met
Mafia Blitz condenses the tension of a Mafia game into fifteen minutes, cuts out elimination, and lets you choose whom to betray. If the group can keep up, it's a concentrate of pure paranoia.

Mafia Blitz FAQ
Is a moderator needed, or do all players play?
<cite index="3-3,20-2">One player is the Vigilante, a public role who moderates the discussion and decides whom to shoot</cite>. They are not out of the game: they have a victory condition (to protect the Rat) and actively participate. Everyone plays; no one is just an arbitrator.
Does it work with fewer than 6 players?
No. The game is designed for 6-12 players. With fewer than 6, the draft and deduction dynamics fall flat. If there are 4-5 of you, it's better to look elsewhere.
What mechanics does Mafia Blitz use?
Asymmetric role drafting, social deduction, bluffing, hidden alliances, traitor game. <cite index="15-2,15-3">No random assignment: you draw two cards, you choose one</cite>. Short night phase with secret abilities, then open discussion and a final showdown.
Is it really different from classic Werewolf and Mafia?
<cite index="15-8">Yes: no player elimination, no long night, no downtime</cite>. Everything is resolved in a single, compressed game. The draft gives you control over your role instead of drawing it randomly. And each role has different victory conditions, not just "Mafia vs. Village".
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English. The game is self-published and was released on Kickstarter in 2026. Language dependence is moderate: you need to read the roles and the night script, but once the roles are understood, the game is all verbal.
