You have three actions per turn. Use them to buy mines, hire troops, or send bandits to your neighbor. Some accumulate gold, others fan the flames of revolution. Then Díaz falls, and the winner is whoever bet on the right regime. Or whoever has the most gold.

Pax Porfiriana takes its name from the 33-year reign of Porfirio Díaz, the dictator who ruled Mexico with an iron fist until the Revolution of 1910. Designed by Phil Eklund and Matt Eklund, with illustrations by Madeleine Fjäll, the game is part of the renowned Pax series published by Ion Game Design. This Ultimate Edition introduces a second act of gameplay with over 120 new cards that extend the story beyond the original revolution.
You are a wealthy hacendado in the turbulent borderlands between the United States and Mexico: build empires of ranches, mines, railroads, troops, and banks while sabotaging your opponents with bandits, Native Americans, and lawsuits. This dense historical game uses card-based engine building and regime-change triggers to shape a volatile political landscape: win by overthrowing Díaz in a coup, revolution, succession, or annexation by the USA. The deck contains 220 cards, but you only use about fifty in any given game: no two games are ever the same.

What you have at hand to change Mexico
Enterprises
Mines, ranches, railroads, banks. They produce gold every turn, but their value changes with the regime. A mine worth 3 in Pax Porfiriana can be worth 1 in Anarchy.
Troops
Federales, bandits, private army. You can move them, use them to attack, or to change the regime. Whoever controls the troops controls which type of victory is active.
Headlines
Event cards that flow through the market and activate when they come out. They can trigger Depression (you pay 1 gold for every card in play) or other sudden crises.
Partners
Real historical figures: Pancho Villa, capitalists, revolutionaries. They give you abilities, prestige points, and represent your alliances. They change every game.
