Dice Throne · Hero Pack Pale Lady
Polite, fragile, harmless. Then she collects the third moon shard, flips the board, and someone else sits at the table.
What it's about
Two heroes on one board
The Dice Throne Hero Pack Pale Lady comes from the Outcasts set, Dice Throne's horror line. She is the only hero in the series with a double-sided board: on one side, the noblewoman who manipulates, stings, and collects moon shards; on the other, the werewolf who stops being polite. Designed by Nate Chatellier, Manny Trembley, and Gavan Brown, it's a single hero pack for the Dice Throne system.
The mechanism is all there: you accumulate Moon Shards as Pale Lady, and when you have three, the transformation triggers at the start of your turn. It's not a choice — it happens. As Werewolf you have devastating abilities (Jaws of the Wolf, Sunder, Full Moon Blitz) that scale precisely with the shards you're burning. When they run out, you return to being the lady. And you start over.
A detail nobody mentions: the Pale Lady is the only Dice Throne hero without board upgrades. You don't buy upgrades with combat points — your "upgrade" is the transformation. Complexity 3 out of 6: the most accessible character in the Outcasts set, but with her own timing to learn.

Your arsenal
What you bring to the Mad King's arena
The Moon Dice
Five custom dice with claw marks, moons, and lunar symbols. Up to three rolls per turn: keep what you need, reroll the rest.
The double-sided board
Pale Lady side: Scratch, The Cure, Conflicted, Refresh. Werewolf side: Sunder, Jaws of the Wolf, Full Moon Blitz, Backslash. And the Ultimate Unleash the Beast!
The dedicated deck
Ambush, Ravage!, New Moon! and the others: many cards only work in one of the two forms. Playing them at the right time is half the character.
Moon Shard, Bleed, Prey
Three moon shards and you transform. Bleed causes the opponent to bleed at every upkeep. Prey marks them: whoever attacks them does more damage.
The board turns silently, without asking permission. From that moment, the game has a different protagonist.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The lady sits composed
I open the board to the Pale Lady side, set up the counter, take the five dice. My opponent looks at the illustration and smiles: she seems the least dangerous at the table. I say nothing. It's better for him to keep thinking that.
One shard. Two shards.
I scratch, I make them bleed, I collect Moon Shards. Modest damage, nothing spectacular. But something is accumulating on my side of the board, and he still doesn't quite know what happens when it reaches three.
Third shard. I flip the board.
It's not a choice, it's a rule: at the start of my turn, with three Moon Shards, the board flips. On the other side is the wolf. All abilities change, numbers double, and the smile on the other side of the table disappears.
Jaws of the Wolf
I mark the prey and bite: undefendable damage that increases for each moon shard I'm burning. In two turns as a wolf, I deal more damage than I did in the first six as a lady. Then the moon wanes, and I return to being polite. For now.
Zero health points, between one claw and another
It ends as the blood continues to flow: Bleed works even when I do nothing. Twenty-two minutes, two forms, one victory. And now he absolutely wants to try the wolf side.
How to play
The flow of each turn
Four phases that flow in less than two minutes. With the Pale Lady, there's an extra variable: which side of the board you have in front of you.
This is where the board flips: with three Moon Shards, you become a Werewolf. Then you draw a card and gain one combat point. It's also when the Bleed inflicted on your opponent makes them bleed.
Spend combat points on cards — not upgrades, because the Pale Lady doesn't have any. Be careful: many cards only work in one of the two forms.
Roll the five dice up to three times. As a lady, you look for Moon Shards and Bleed; as a wolf, you look for damage. The abilities are completely different: it's like playing two heroes in one game.
Last cards, discard excess hand. And if you're a wolf and have run out of moon shards, at the end of the turn the board flips back: you return to being the Pale Lady and start collecting again.
Why choose the Pale Lady
Six reasons to bring her to the arena
One board, two heroes
No other Dice Throne character changes identity mid-game. The moment you flip the board is pure theater — and completely changes how your opponent has to play against you.
Moon Shard: the beast's timer
Three shards trigger the transformation, and those are the same ones that fuel the wolf's damage. Each turn you have to decide how quickly to rise and how long to stay up.
Bleed and Prey: wear down and mark
Bleed deals damage even outside your turn. Marked prey takes more damage from anyone who attacks them — and in free-for-all, it becomes an open invitation to other players.
Unleash the Beast!, the Ultimate
The only time transformation stops being mandatory and becomes your choice. Like all Ultimates, it cannot be prevented in any way.
The only hero without upgrades
In Dice Throne, everyone upgrades their board. She doesn't: her upgrade is turning the page and becoming a werewolf. A design choice unparalleled in the series.
The face of the Outcasts set
She comes from Dice Throne's horror line, with Necromancer, Headless Horseman, and Raveness. Still compatible with all heroes in the series, including Marvel.
How it ends
One way to win. One way to be hunted.
No score, no final tally. You fight until someone runs out of health points — and the hunter, with her, becomes prey with embarrassing ease.
Victory
- Reduce opponent's health points to zero — or the last one standing
- In 2v2, the team that eliminates both enemy heroes wins
- With the Pale Lady, victory comes from choosing wisely when to ascend to the moon and when to descend
Defeat
- Your health points reach zero: you are out of the arena
- Staying Pale Lady for too long means dealing little damage while others strike
- There's no consolation, but no waiting either: the rematch starts in two minutes
Add the Pale Lady to your arena if you want the most theatrical hero in the series: one who changes face and rules mid-game. Remember: you need at least two Hero Packs to fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Dice Throne Hero Pack Pale Lady
Can I play with this Hero Pack alone?
No, and it's best to say it right away. The Pale Lady Hero Pack contains everything needed for a single hero: to fight, you need at least a second Hero Pack (or a Dice Throne box you already own). It's not a base box: it's designed for those who already have the system, or for those building it one hero at a time.
Is transformation a choice or an obligation?
An obligation, and it's important to know that before buying her. With three Moon Shards, the board flips at the start of your turn, whether you want it to or not; and when the shards run out, you return to being the Pale Lady at the end of the turn. The only exception is the Ultimate, Unleash the Beast! The character is not played by "deciding when to transform," but by managing how quickly you reach three shards and how long you manage to stay a wolf.
Is it true that she has no board upgrades?
Yes, and she is unique in all of Dice Throne. All other heroes spend combat points to permanently improve their board abilities: she does not. The Werewolf transformation replaces upgrades. In practice, all your combat points go into cards — a different economy from any other hero in the series.
Which set does she come from and is she compatible with other heroes?
She comes from Dice Throne Outcasts, the horror line with Necromancer, Headless Horseman, and Raveness. She is, however, compatible with all Dice Throne heroes: Season One, Season Two, and Marvel Dice Throne can be freely mixed, in 1v1, 2v2, or free-for-all.
Is it suitable for those who have never played Dice Throne?
She has a complexity of 3 out of 6: the most accessible of the Outcasts set, but not a first-game hero like the Barbarian (1) or the Moon Elf (2). The dual board is quickly understood, but the timing of the moon requires a few games. If you already know the system, she's an excellent second or third hero.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The text on the board and cards is in English, but the language is repetitive and highly iconic: after one game, the symbols are self-explanatory. Basic English is needed to play without hesitation.
