The merchant unfurls his wares. You have two rounds to find resources, one to decide. Then he sails away, and you'll never see those cards again.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Merchants who pass by only once
Kingdom Legacy: Merchants is an expansion for Kingdom Legacy by Jonathan Fryxelius (the author of Terraforming Mars). Illustrations generated with Adobe Firefly accompany this new phase of the campaign, set in a medieval kingdom that has become a trade crossroads.
Four merchants arrive in your kingdom, each for only one round. They bring 26 unique cards to buy with the resources you collect. If you don't buy them immediately, those cards disappear forever from your campaign. The heart of the expansion is the sense of urgency: each merchant is a unique opportunity.
What they say abroad
"Your kingdom is a hub of trade, attracting merchants from near and far with their intriguing and often bizarre goods."
— FryxGames
The Kingdom Legacy system continues to show a design cleanliness rare in legacy games. Merchants adds tension without adding complexity.

Kingdom Legacy: Merchants
Kingdom Legacy is a game designed for solo play. Merchants follows the same philosophy: no automa, just you against your choices and the merchant's timer. The experience is complete and loses nothing compared to a hypothetical multiplayer (which does not exist).
What you'll find in the chests
Four merchants, four catalogs
Merchant 1
The first merchant brings basic but essential cards. Buy them immediately: they are the foundation for accumulating resources in subsequent rounds.
Merchant 2
The second merchant offers more specialized cards. Here you begin to build your strategy: which cards do you need for the expansions you have in mind?
Merchant 3
The third merchant brings rare and expensive items. You must have accumulated enough resources, or some cards will slip away from you.
Merchant 4
The last merchant is your final opportunity. After him, your deck is set. What you haven't bought is lost forever.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each round of Merchants follows the same rhythm: you accumulate resources with the cards you have, then you buy the available merchant cards.
At the beginning of the round, you reveal the current merchant's cards (they are already printed in the expansion). Each has a resource cost.
You use the cards from your existing Kingdom Legacy to accumulate resources: coins, materials, action points. Your goal is to meet the costs of the merchant's cards.
You spend the accumulated resources to buy the merchant cards you are interested in. Each purchased card enters your permanent deck.
End of round: the merchant leaves. Unpurchased cards are removed from the game and will never return to your campaign.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first merchant arrives
You unroll the cards of the first merchant. They are all new, all appealing. But you have no resources: you must immediately figure out which to buy now and which to postpone until the next round. Choose quickly.
The resource race
You dedicate the second round to gathering resources. You play the cards you have, accumulate coins and materials. You look at the merchant cards still on the table and do the math: can you buy them all?
The merchant sets sail
End of round: the merchant takes their unsold cards and leaves. Some you bought, others not. Those left on the table disappear from the game. Forever.
The new catalog
The next merchant arrives with different, often more powerful, cards. The race begins again: you accumulate resources, calculate priorities, choose what to sacrifice. Each round is more tense than the last.
The last merchant sets sail
After four rounds, the expansion ends. You look at your enriched deck and think about the cards you lost. Now you have to play other expansions to develop what you bought.
🐸Before you playThree honest things, from friends▼
Before you play
Three things to know
Merchants is a pure expansion: you cannot play it alone. You need the base Kingdom Legacy and, ideally, at least a couple of integrated expansions (the game tells you to purge 7 + purge 2 permanent cards: this means you need an already developed deck). If this is your first expansion for Kingdom Legacy, wait.
The four rounds of Merchants are almost exclusively dedicated to buying cards. To use and develop them, you must play other subsequent expansions. Merchants builds the engine, it doesn't run it.
Every card you don't buy disappears forever from your legacy campaign. You can't go back, you can't replay the merchant. This creates real tension, but it also means that a misjudgment (buying the wrong card, losing the right one) can weigh on the rest of the campaign.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Merchants has no traditional win or loss conditions: it is a deck-building phase within the Kingdom Legacy campaign.
Objective
- Buy the most useful cards for your campaign strategy
- Accumulate enough resources not to miss key opportunities
- Build a balanced deck that works in subsequent expansions
Common mistakes
- Losing essential cards because you didn't accumulate resources in time
- Buying cards that don't integrate with your existing deck
- Finishing the expansion with an unbalanced or inefficient deck
Merchants transforms deck building into a race against time. Each merchant is a unique opportunity, and regret is part of the game.

FAQ about Kingdom Legacy: Merchants
Can I play Merchants without having played other Kingdom Legacy expansions?
Technically yes, but the game requires you to purge 7 and purge 2 permanent cards, which means you need an already developed deck. If this is your first expansion after the base game, it's better to integrate one or two built-in expansions from the base game first to build a working engine.
Can I use the cards I buy from merchants immediately?
Yes, purchased cards immediately enter your deck. However, most require development (i.e., they need to be played in subsequent rounds to fully activate them). Merchants is designed to enrich the deck, not to revolutionize it in four rounds.
What mechanics does Kingdom Legacy: Merchants use?
Deck building, hand management, resource management, permanent legacy choices, narrative choice (each merchant has a small story), push your luck (risk of losing cards if you wait too long to buy).
If I lose an important card, can I retrieve it later?
No. Once the merchant sails, unpurchased cards are removed from the campaign forever. There are no second chances. This is the heart of the expansion: every choice is final.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, the edition sold on FroGames is in Italian, published by Cranio Creations. Cards, rulebook, and narrative texts are all translated.
