The FroGames Card
You have three creatures incubating, two Catalysts remaining, and your opponent's creature is about to awaken in its final form. You can summon your creature now and hope for critical damage, or wait for the perfect turn and risk it being too late.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
When the gods are bored, creatures die
Feralis: Obscure Land is a competitive card game by Luca Vincitore, published by Deer Games Studio in 2023. Five different artists (Pietro Bastas, Davide De Bellis, Gaia Degl'Innocenti, Giovanni Lazzari, Giovanni Panarello) built the dark world of Feralis: a brutal plane of existence where tribal races and civilizations slaughter each other under the indifferent gaze of the Aesyr, archaic and cruel deities.
You embody one of these gods. You summon creatures, make them mutate from a called (Call) form to an awakened (Awakening) form, and send them to the slaughter. The main resource is not mana or action points: it is time. Each creature has a waiting cost in turns before entering the field. You can speed things up with Catalysts, a limited resource that you can also use on your opponent's turn to unlock creatures from the Incubator. Your divine abilities (Godlike Skills) recharge slowly. Everything must happen at the right time, or your opponent will crush you.
What they say abroad
"Feralis is a dark and brutal plane of existence, populated by numerous tribal races and civilizations in continuous tension between them, under the influence of mysterious and feared archaic deities the Aesyr."
— Deer Games Studio
A young game, released in 2023, with a Call/Awakening mechanic that deserves attention. The community is growing, but in-depth reviews are still few. This card will be updated as the game finds an audience.

Feralis: Obscure Land
Your dark arsenal
Creatures, divine abilities, and critical resources
Two-sided Call/Awakening creatures
Each creature has two forms. The first (Call) enters the field after its waiting cost. When defeated, it returns in its Awakening form: stronger, more expensive, often with new abilities. You can also summon it directly in Awakening form, but you lose its first life.
Incubator and waiting cost
You don't put creatures in your hand and play them whenever you want. You put them in the Incubator and wait N turns. If the creature costs 3 turns, you wait 3 turns. Unless you use Catalysts to unlock it earlier.
Catalysts
Limited resource that reduces waiting time. You can also use them on your opponent's turn for tactical surprises. How many you have, how you use them, and when you decide to burn them are at the heart of the game.
Godlike Skills
Divine abilities assigned to your Aesyr. Powerful events that recharge after use. They serve to turn a battle or close a game, but you have to wait for the cooldown. No spamming.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Feralis does not have complex phases. Each turn is: wait, summon, fight, recharge.
Reduce the waiting cost of all creatures in the Incubator by 1. Those that reach 0 enter the field (Call form). You can use Catalyst to further reduce the cost, even for opposing creatures if you have abilities that allow it.
Place new creatures in the Incubator (with their waiting cost) or directly summon creatures in Awakening form (skipping the Call form, but paying more in time or resources).
Assign your creatures to attacks: they can strike opposing creatures or go directly to the enemy leader if the field is clear. Defeated creatures return to the Incubator in Awakening form.
Recharge used Godlike Skills (if the cooldown has expired), collect any Catalyst generated by effects, pass the turn. The opponent can also use their Catalyst now, on your turn, to unleash surprises.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Build your deck, choose your god
Before playing, build your creature deck (there are building limits) and choose which Aesyr to embody. Each god has different abilities (Godlike Skills). This phase is outside the actual game, but it determines half of your strategy.
First turns: fill the Incubator
Place creatures in the Incubator. Some cost 1 turn, others 3, others 5. See what your opponent puts in. You realize they're preparing something big, but you don't know when they'll use Catalysts to preempt it.
First summons, first clashes
Creatures emerge from the Incubator and clash. When one dies, it returns in Awakening form: stronger, but you have to wait again. You start to understand the rhythm of the game: those who anticipate too much waste cards, those who wait too long lose control of the field.
Critical use of Catalysts
The opponent has a devastating creature that awakens in two turns. You still have one Catalyst. You can use it to unlock your defense now, on their turn, or save it to accelerate your final attack. Choose. A mistake can cost you the game.
Closing: divine abilities or direct attack
One of the two players has enough creatures on the field to directly attack the opposing leader, or uses a recharged Godlike Skill to sweep away the last defense. Game over. Feralis has no scoring phases: either you kill your opponent, or they kill you.

The game is young, the community is growing
Feralis was released in 2023. It has fewer than 100 reviews on BGG, so established strategies, competitive decks, and detailed guides are not yet at the level of a Magic or a Keyforge. If you're looking for a stable meta, wait. If you like exploring a new game with the community, now is the right time.
Time as a resource slows the pace
You don't play 5 cards a turn like in classic TCGs. You put creatures in the Incubator, wait, and meanwhile observe what the other player does. If you love fast duels like Unmatched or Radlands, Feralis is slower and more cerebral. If you love the timing of Riftforce or strategic waiting, you'll like it.
Dark theme, illustrations not for everyone
Feralis has a brutal dark fantasy aesthetic: ancient deities, tribal creatures, bloody battles. Five artists worked on the cards, but the style is grim and violent. If you're looking for a game with more family-friendly or colorful illustrations, look elsewhere.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Feralis has only one victory condition: kill the opposing leader.
Victory
- Reduce the opposing leader's life points to 0 with direct attacks from your creatures
- Use a Godlike Skill to deal lethal damage to the enemy leader
- Control the field long enough to crush all defenses and strike directly
Defeat
- Your leader's life points drop to 0
- You've exhausted your deck and can no longer summon creatures (very rare, but possible in very long games)
- The opponent has built an unstoppable field and you have no more answers
Feralis is a card duel that respects your time: 40-60 minute games, no endless deck building between games, and a double-sided mechanic that no other card game has exactly like this.

FAQ about Feralis: Obscure Land
What mechanics does Feralis: Obscure Land use?
Deck construction (you build your deck before the game), card play conflict resolution (resolving clashes through card values), open drafting (you can see what your opponent puts in the Incubator) and time management as the main resource (each creature has a waiting cost in turns).
Can I play Feralis with more than 2 players?
Yes, the game also supports 2v2 team play. The basic rules are for 1v1 duels, but there is a cooperative team mode. However, the official solo mode is not included.
Is it difficult to build the deck?
No. There are clear building limits (maximum number of copies per card, balance between Call and Awakening creatures), and the manual suggests pre-built decks to get started. After 2-3 games, you'll understand which creatures work well together and can customize. It's not Magic: you don't need hundreds of rare cards to compete.
How long does a real game last?
The box says 40-60 minutes, and that's accurate. The first few games might go longer (70-80 minutes) because you have to reread some abilities, but once you know your deck and your opponent's, games typically finish in 45-50 minutes.
Is Feralis available in Italian?
Yes, the edition sold on FroGames is in Italian, published by Deer Games Studio. Cards, rules, and abilities are all translated.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
