The FroGames Card
You cross the barrier, the Echo opens before you. Someone explores, someone monitors the threat tracker. The Adversary is still invisible, but each Threat die brings them closer. Then Crisis arrives and everything changes.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
Dimensional Explorers on behalf of the Penrose Society
1931. The Penrose Society has discovered that other dimensions exist: Echoes of our world propagating into the unknown. Echobound Adventures is a cooperative sandbox designed by Chris Rowlands and Isaias Vallejo, veterans of Prospero Hall (Funkoverse, dozens of critically acclaimed licensed titles) now reunited in Tempest Workshop. Illustrations by Dennis Menheere, Damon Brown, Dylan Pharaoh-Whitney, and Eduardo Francisco.
You are a Steward: you cross the barrier, explore the Echo, complete missions, and extract yourself before collapse. Each Expedition lasts 60-90 minutes, but your choices and progress carry over: skills, items, storyline. The system uses dice with shared Moxie resources: you roll, fail forward by re-rolling, but each Threat symbol brings the Adversary closer. If too many threats accumulate, a Crisis is triggered and the Adversary physically enters the game with their miniature. You must defeat them or extract before it's too late.
What they say abroad
"A 1–4 player co-op sandbox where every expedition changes the worlds you return to."

Echobound Adventures presents itself as an ambitious cooperative game that promises total modularity and persistent progression without the punitive weight of many campaigns. We will write a full review after release.

Echobound Adventures
The game officially supports solo play (1-4 players). From the descriptions, it seems designed for complete expeditions even alone, with the dice system and Adversary working identically. It probably loses some of the cooperative Moxie sharing, but the sandbox and narrative experience should remain intact.
Inside the box
The pieces of each Expedition
Moxie Dice
Each Steward has their own set of dice. You roll them for actions, spend Moxie to power them up or help companions. But each Threat rolled brings the Adversary closer.
Modular Environments
Each Environment (jungle, desert, city...) is a complete world with a dedicated Quest deck, hidden secrets, and its own narrative Journal. You can freely mix them with any Adversary for always different stories.
Adversary Miniature
At first, it's just an invisible threat. When the track reaches its maximum and Crisis is triggered, it physically enters the game: it moves, attacks, and can end the Expedition if you don't stop it.
Adventure Journal
Narrative journal read aloud at the table. It reacts to your choices, has branches dedicated to individual Stewards, and creates shared moments that the group will remember.

How to play
The flow of each round
Individual turns with actions, then collective Threat update.
Each player in their turn: spends Action Points, rolls dice to pass tests (explore, complete Quests, interact). Can use Moxie to boost their dice or help a teammate.
If you fail a test, you can re-roll to get more successes. But every die showing Threat goes onto the Adversary's tracker. Continuous decision: do I accept partial failure or risk bringing the Crisis closer?
When the track fills up, an Adversary pattern is triggered: a disruptive event, damage, board modification. If it happens multiple times, it can physically materialize as a miniature on the board.
The goal is to collect Adventure Points and then extract. The longer you stay to hunt for better rewards, the more Threat you accumulate. If the Adversary completes their goal in Crisis or a Steward falls, the Expedition fails (you keep half points).

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Dimensional Rift
Choose your Environment and Adversary, prepare the Quest deck, read the Journal intro. The Echo opens before you: alien jungle, abandoned city, impossible desert. The Adversary is still invisible, but their name is on the tracker.
Exploration and first Quests
You start exploring: roll dice, use Moxie, complete objectives. Each success brings Adventure Points, each Threat fills the Adversary's tracker. Someone suggests pushing further, someone nervously watches the track rise.
First Crisis
The tracker reaches its maximum. The Adversary activates a pattern (blocks resources, damages Stewards, changes the board). Tension rises. You decide: extract now with the loot collected, or risk it to complete the big Quest?
The Adversary materializes
Second Crisis, or third. Now the miniature enters play: it moves, attacks, can incapacitate a Steward. The group must coordinate: someone distracts it, someone completes the last objective, someone prepares for extraction.
Extraction or collapse
You manage to extract before the Adversary completes their goal, or someone falls and you only save half your points. Even failing, progress counts: you unlock permanent abilities, new Quests, storylines that will continue in the next Expedition.
🐸To know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
To know beforehand
Three things you need to consider
Dominant push-your-luck dice
The game system revolves entirely around dice rolls and Moxie management. If your group hates dice luck or prefers deterministic puzzles, this game might frustrate you. Re-rolling to improve introduces choices, but a cold die can ruin a key turn.
Persistent campaign means commitment
Although each Expedition lasts 60-90 minutes (manageable), the game is designed to be played as a campaign with persistent progression. You will unlock abilities, items, and storylines over time. If you are looking for self-contained one-shots, consider this carefully.
Game launching, balance to be verified
Echobound Adventures will be released in 2027. The designers have solid pedigree (Prospero Hall), but modular sandbox mechanics with persistent progression are complex to balance. The promise is high, the tabletop verification will come after launch.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How you win and how you lose
Each Expedition has clear success and failure conditions. But even losing advances the campaign.
Successful extraction
- Collect enough Adventure Points by completing Quests and exploring
- Decide to extract before the Adversary completes their final goal
- No Steward is incapacitated when you extract: you keep all points
Expedition failed
- The Adversary reaches their goal during a Crisis
- A Steward is incapacitated and the group fails to complete the extraction
- Expedition failed = you only keep half the Adventure points collected (fail-forward design)
Echobound Adventures aims to be the cooperative sandbox without punishment: every game counts, win or lose, and the campaign grows with you. If it delivers on its promise, it could be a step forward for the genre.

FAQ about Echobound Adventures
What mechanics does Echobound Adventures use?
Cooperative system with push-your-luck dice rolling, shared Moxie resource management, action points, persistent progression like legacy/campaign. The Threat tracker feeds the Adversary, who goes from invisible to a physical miniature on the board.
How long does an Expedition last? Can I play short sessions?
Each Expedition lasts 60-90 minutes, designed as a self-contained unit. You don't have to play 4 hours straight like in other campaigns. Progression carries over between sessions, but each game has its own start and extraction.
How many times can I play the campaign? Is there replayability?
The system is modular sandbox: each Environment combines with each Adversary for different stories. Progression unlocks new Quests and permanent abilities. In theory, you should be able to play dozens of different Expeditions, but this needs to be verified on the table.
Does it work well solo?
Yes, the game officially supports 1-4 players. Solo you probably lose some of the cooperative synergy (sharing Moxie, coordinating roles), but the sandbox and exploratory experience should remain complete. To be verified upon release.
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English. The game has text on Quest cards, narrative Journal, Adversaries. Requires good comprehension of written English to follow the storylines.
