The FroGames Card · Deluxe Edition
Same climb, same campaign. But the dice you hold are your own, the sled is real wood, and the flowers you pick at the summit are red and gold enamel pins. Sometimes what you remember isn't who won — it's what it felt like to be at that table.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A 20-minute filler that becomes a campaign you actually finish
Mountain Goats: Legacy starts with the game that practically launched Allplay — hundreds of thousands of copies played — designed by Alex Cutler, Michael Mihealsick and Stefan Risthaus, with illustrations by Sandara Tang. Each turn you roll four dice and combine them into groups to climb the mountains. You reach the top, score points, but if someone rolls the right number, they knock you down and you start over. Pure, direct, immediate King of the Hill.
The legacy version transforms that filler into a mission-based campaign: you unlock powers that rotate each time, the mountain changes shape under your hooves, and along the way five hazards appear — the Boulder, Ice Steps, Avalanche, River, and Yeti. All of this without destroying anything: everything resets, the campaign can be replayed.
This is the Deluxe edition. It doesn't add a single rule or piece of story: the campaign is identical to the standard. What changes is the table experience. Twenty marbled dice with the goat symbol in gold — a complete set for each player, each in their own color. Shaped wooden sleds instead of tokens. A physical dial for the Courage track. And bloom tokens turned into enamel pins. Below, we tell you exactly what changes and for whom it's worth it.
The FroGames perspective
The real difference of the Deluxe is not "how nice": it's the twenty dice. Everyone rolls their own, no dice are passed around the table. With 4-5 players, the rhythm really changes.
The secret of the Deluxe in one line
Newly released game, funded on Kickstarter in January 2026 with over 8,000 backers. We are playing the campaign to truly evaluate it: this card is based on the rulebook, official materials, and first games. We will update it with the full verdict.

Mountain Goats: Legacy Deluxe
Deluxe vs Standard
Four things change. Here's what, and why they matter.
No extra game content: the campaign, story, powers, and rules are identical to the standard. The Deluxe focuses on the table — on feel, rhythm, and how readable the game state is.
The upgrade that truly makes a difference: everyone rolls their own. No dice being passed around the table between players. With 4-5 people, turns overlap and the pace quickens.
They become wooden meeples: you can recognize them by touch without looking, they have weight and stand on the board. Small detail, big scenic presence.
Courage — the system that softens unlucky rolls — is managed by turning a dial instead of moving tokens. Fewer pieces to fuss with, state always readable at a glance.
The tokens you collect at the summit become enamel pins. They are the goal of every climb: having them in metal makes them feel — and weigh — like a small conquest.
Who it's for, among friends
It makes more sense if you play often and with 4-5 players (the twenty dice change the flow) and if table presence matters to you. If you primarily play with two, or if the material doesn't interest you much, the standard plays exactly the same game. Neither is "more complete": it's the same campaign, dressed differently.
✨Deluxe Upgrades4 premium components instead of standard ones
📦The rest of the boxThe game content, identical to the standard
The five hazards — the Boulder, Ice Steps, Avalanche, River, and Yeti — are revealed during the campaign. No spoilers: you discover them at the table.
🌐LanguageEnglish Edition
This edition is in English. Dice, mountains, and movement are language-independent, but skill cards and mission instructions need to be read: assess your group's English level. Recommended age 7+.
The campaign is the same as the standard. But the dice you hold are your own, the sled is wooden, and the flowers you collect shine. Sometimes it's the how, not the what.

How to play
The flow of each turn
A turn is quick, direct, almost instinctive. You roll, you decide, you advance.
In the Deluxe version, everyone has their own set in their color: take your four dice and roll them. Look at the numbers, see if the goat symbol came up.
Divide the dice into groups (even single ones). Each group must sum at least 5. The sum decides which mountain you advance on.
Each group advances you one space on the corresponding track. If you reach the summit, take the bloom token. If someone is already there, you knock them off.
If you rolled the goat symbol, consult the current mission's power and apply it. It can change the whole turn. Your Courage is managed on the Deluxe dial: you turn it, you don't move markers.

A five-part campaign
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first climb
You open the box, unroll the mountain cards, everyone chooses their color and takes their set of marbled dice. You roll four dice, group them by sum, advance on the tracks. In 15 minutes you're already in the game. The first mission is a taste: low stakes, essential rules.
The first goat symbol
Someone rolls the goat symbol and stops. What do they do? Open the envelope, read the current mission's power. Maybe you re-roll a die, maybe you move an opponent's goat. Powers rotate every mission: what works today might be gone tomorrow.
True King of the Hill
You're at the summit of the 12-point mountain. You score points every turn you stay there. Then she arrives, rolls exactly 12, and pushes you down. You return to base, turn the Courage dial to catch your breath, and start over. It's not malice: it's the game. And revenge is just around the corner.
The unlock
Mission end. Open the next envelope. New rules, new components, and this time a danger appears on the board — the Boulder, the Avalanche, maybe the Yeti. The mountain changes shape. The game evolves before your eyes, and so do you.
The end of the campaign
Last mission. Count the enameled blooms collected, find out who dominated the peaks. Someone asks: can I play it again? Yes, you can: everything resets, nothing is torn. But in the meantime, that campaign is yours, with the gags, the plot twists, the impossible rolls. The next one will be different.

Things to know beforehand
Three things you need to know
Deluxe is about feel, not content
Campaign, story, powers, and rules are identical to the standard version. What changes are twenty dice (one per color), wooden sleds, Courage dials, and enameled bloom tokens. If the material doesn't matter to you, the standard version plays the same game.
You depend on the dice
You can combine as you wish, but if you roll poorly, you roll poorly. The Courage system helps, it doesn't eliminate luck. If you hate games where a bad roll changes everything, this isn't for you.
Short games, long campaign
Each session lasts 20-45 minutes, but the campaign requires several. If you want a single marathon legacy game on the weekend, it won't work. If you want something to play in installments, it's perfect.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each game ends in one of the following ways, then points are counted.
End-game conditions
- All bonus tokens (for a complete set of mountains) have been taken
- Three different mountains have run out of all their bloom tokens
- The current mission has a specific end condition, revealed during the campaign
How you get eliminated
- You are never eliminated: even if you are pushed off the peaks, you remain in the game
- Ultimately, the player who has collected the most points from bloom tokens wins
- During the campaign, challenges and dangers may emerge that penalize those who fall behind
A legacy game that you truly finish, with powers that change every time and no components to destroy. In the Deluxe edition, every climb is made with your own dice in hand and the enameled flowers accumulating in front of you.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Mountain Goats: Legacy Deluxe
What's different from the standard version? Is the difference worth it?
The Deluxe version updates four components: 20 dice (one set for each player in their color), wooden sleds, Courage dials, and enameled bloom tokens. Not a single rule or piece of story changes. The most tangible difference is the dice: everyone rolls their own, so with 4-5 players, the pace is smoother. If you play often and care about the table presence, it's worth it. If you mostly play with two, the standard version plays the same game.
Is it suitable for those who have never played a legacy game?
Yes. It's designed to be the first legacy game for many families: light rules, no components to tear up, short sessions. If the classic Mountain Goats seems accessible to you, this one is just as much so.
How many games does the campaign last?
A precise number is not officially stated, but the campaign unfolds over multiple missions with powers and challenges that change every time. With 20-45 minute sessions, it's a legacy game you can finish in a few weeks by playing in installments, not in a single weekend.
Can I play a single game without the campaign?
Yes. The first mission also works as a single session and is compatible with the spirit of the original Mountain Goats. The campaign is the heart of the experience, but the game is still enjoyable one game at a time.
What mechanics does Mountain Goats: Legacy use?
Dice rolling, set collection (combining dice into groups), king of the hill (controlling peaks), race (race to the top), track movement (movement on tracks), and legacy game (campaign progression).
Is it available in Italian?
The available edition is in English. The game is largely language-independent (dice, mountains, movement), but the power cards and mission instructions require reading. Recommended age 7+, assess if the English level is appropriate for your group.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Mountain Goats: Legacy Deluxe is a competitive dice and race game for 2-5 players, ages 7+, lasting 20-45 minutes per session. Designed by Alex Cutler, Michael Mihealsick, and Stefan Risthaus with illustrations by Sandara Tang, published by Allplay, it offers an accessible legacy campaign designed to be completed in short sessions. The Deluxe edition upgrades four components — 20 marbled player dice (one set per color), wooden sleds, rotating Courage dials, and enameled bloom tokens — without altering rules or content from the standard version. The game introduces dynamic abilities that change every mission, transforming mountains, and five unlockable dangers. English edition. Available on FroGames.it.
