FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
New auditions, new toons, a paddle-wielding shark. Flip six cards, hold your breath — and the stage explodes again.
What it's about
The cartoon talent show returns to the table with an all-new cast
The director ordered a second season — and this time auditions are coming from the deep. Jordy Adan and Renato Simões sign a new season of FlipToons with never-before-seen toons, unprecedented abilities, and completely revamped starting decks. The big novelty is the aquatic actors, who bring combos and synergies that didn't exist in the first chapter.
The core remains the same: each round you flip six cards from your deck into a 3x2 grid. Some toons activate immediately, others interact with neighbors, while others cancel each other out. Collect Fame, hire new stars from the market, fire the mediocre ones. The first to reach 30 Fame points triggers the Flip Finale — and the game can still turn upside down on the last card.
FlipToons Season 2 is a standalone expansion: it plays on its own, no need for the first FlipToons. But if you also have the original, you can combine the two decks and play with up to 8 players. Same pocket-sized box, same 1930s art by Diego Sá, with a slightly higher complexity for those who want to push a bit more.
Same engine, brand new cast: if the first FlipToons was a smart slot machine, this is the slot machine with fish.
The secret of Season 2 in one line
Small box, big chaos — again. You learn in five minutes, and play "just one more" until the box stays open.
From the gaming experience
FlipToons: Season 2
Reach 30 Fame before the deck runs out, with adjustable difficulty. The new cast makes the solo mode a great testing ground for discovering aquatic combos without pressure.
Your arsenal
What you control in each game
The new cast of toons
Starting decks revamped from scratch and never-before-seen characters. Even those familiar with the first FlipToons will start over discovering what each card does.
The aquatic actors
The big novelty of the season. A family of toons from the deep with unprecedented talents and synergies — they change the way you build your deck.
The 3x2 grid
Six slots, six destinies. The order in which the toons fall changes everything — interactions activate in sequence, and the result is always a surprise.
The Critic's Choice
Whoever first surpasses 30 Fame conquers it and triggers the Flip Finale. But a final round for everyone can still overturn the leaderboard.
New season, same magic: six cards flipped, the table holds its breath, then someone screams. That's a night worth it.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
New cast, old certainties to throw away
Initial decks are dealt and the market is revealed. Those who have already played the first FlipToons think they know what to do — then they read the new toons' abilities and change their minds. "What is this fish?" "And what does that activate?" The game hasn't even started and there's already something new to learn.
The first flip you don't expect
You shuffle, turn over six cards, and the aquatic actor ends up in the wrong corner. Zero synergy. Someone laughs. The player next to them, however, pulls off a new combo and scores big. The table is already buzzing in the second round — and no one has quite figured out all the cards yet.
The new deck starts to respond
After a few rounds, the cards start to work together. You've fired useless toons, hired the right ones, discovered how the aquatic toons interact with the rest of the cast. When the combo ignites and Fame suddenly rises, you understand why it was worth learning everything from scratch.
Someone approaches 30
The pressure is on. One of the players has 25 points — just one decent flip is enough to trigger the Final Flip. Everyone is watching their deck. Everyone hopes their toons fall into the wrong place. And when it happens — when the round goes wrong at the very last moment — the table explodes.
The Final Flip. Anything can happen.
Someone reaches 30 Fame. The Final Flip is triggered — one last round for everyone. The second-place player can win. The one who thought they had won can lose. The game almost always ends with a surprise. Everything is packed away while they are still discussing that flip from round three.
How to play
The flow of each round
Three repeating phases, plus the grand finale. You learn in ten minutes, you play right away.
Each player shuffles their entire deck and turns over the top six cards into a 3×2 grid. Characters are placed simultaneously — the first player resolves first, then the others in order.
Each toon's talents are resolved in the order they were revealed. Many effects depend on their position in the grid or who they are next to. Total Fame generated in the round is counted.
With the accumulated Fame, you hire new toons from the market or fire unwanted ones. The market changes every time, so no cast is ever built the same way twice.
When a player reaches 30 Fame in the Fame Check, they win the Critic's Choice and trigger the finale. One last round is played for everyone — the player with the highest score at the end wins the game.
Why it's different from others
Six things that make Season 2 special
Aquatic actors change combos
This season's new family of toons brings talents and synergies that didn't exist in the first chapter. Building the deck requires new logic — even for veterans.
Standalone expansion
You don't need to own the first FlipToons: Season 2 is a complete box that plays on its own. Starting decks, market, and rules are all included.
Up to 8 players
Do you also have the original? Combine the two sets and bring the talent show to up to eight people. Two small boxes become an entire evening for a large group.
The grid matters as much as the cards
It's not enough to have the right toon — it has to end up in the right position. Adjacency and position effects turn every flip into a small puzzle to solve.
Always an open ending
The Final Flip rebalances everything at the last moment. The one in front has no guarantees, the one behind still has a chance. A design that keeps everyone involved until the last card.
Same 1930s art
Diego Sá's illustrations remain true to the rubber hose style inspired by 1930s cartoons and Cuphead. The new cast integrates visually without ever clashing.
How it ends
Winning and losing in FlipToons Season 2
It's not enough to reach 30 — you have to get there at the right time, and then survive the Final Flip.
Victory
- Reach 30+ Fame during the Fame Check — you trigger the Final Flip and win the Critic's Choice
- In the Final Flip, everyone plays one last round: whoever has the highest Fame at the end wins the game
- The one who triggered the finale has no advantage in the last round
Defeat
- Your deck doesn't generate enough Fame in the Final Flip — someone else scores higher
- In solo: your deck runs out before you reach 30 Fame
- No elimination — everyone plays until the last flip
A new season of the same pocket-sized deckbuilder that has become a cult classic. New cast, aquatic actors, and an always uncertain ending: it's hard to stop after just one game.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about FlipToons Season 2
Do you need the first FlipToons to play?
No. FlipToons Season 2 is a standalone expansion: it's a complete box that plays on its own, with starting decks, market, and rules all included. It is not necessary to own the original FlipToons. However, if you do have it, you can combine the two sets to play with up to 8 people.
How is it different from the first FlipToons?
The engine is the same — flip, count Fame, buy from the market — but the content is all new: new toons, never-before-seen abilities, and revamped starting decks. The big novelty is the aquatic actors, with synergies that weren't in the first chapter. The complexity is slightly higher, but it remains an immediate game to learn.
Is it really just luck or is there strategy?
Both, balanced. The flip is random — you don't control where the cards end up. But you decide what to put in the deck, when to fire a toon, and which combos to build. Those who play with more attention to the market win more often. It's not a game of pure luck: luck is part of the design, not a replacement for it.
Does it work well solo?
Yes. The official solo mode has adjustable difficulty and the goal of reaching 30 Fame before the deck runs out. It's a great way to learn the combos of the new cast without pressure. However, the true spirit of the game is felt with others at the table.
Can it be combined with the original FlipToons?
Yes. Combining Season 2 with the first FlipToons supports up to 8 players and opens up new strategies with a much larger cast. However, they remain two autonomous boxes: you can play them separately or together, depending on the group and the time you have.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The text on the cards is minimal — mainly character names and short effects — and the rules are simple and well-illustrated. It is not necessary to know English to play, but keep in mind that the textual references are in English.
FlipToons: Season 2 is a deck-building board game for 1–4 players (ages 10+, duration approximately 20 min). Designed by Jordy Adan and Renato Simões, illustrations by Diego Sá, published by Thunderworks Games. It is a standalone expansion: it can be played on its own or combined with the original FlipToons to support up to 8 players, as officially stated on the box. Main mechanic: deck building with tableau building on a 3×2 grid. Each player builds a deck of animated toons, flips them into a grid, and calculates the Fame generated by combos and positions. Season 2 introduces a completely new cast, unseen abilities, revamped starting decks, and the novelty of aquatic actors, with slightly higher complexity. The game ends when a player reaches 30 Fame, triggering a Final Flip for everyone. Supports official solo mode. Graphic style inspired by 1930s cartoons and Cuphead. English edition.
