Dice Throne · Hero Pack Barbarian
Why scheme, when you can smash? Enter the Mad King's arena with only one thing in mind: hit until the other stops getting up.
What it's about
Five dice, three rolls, one way to fight: all out
The Dice Throne Hero Pack Barbarian is the most direct hero in the Mad King's arena. No tricks, no textbook combos: heavy blows that stun, concuss, and pave the way for the next hit. Designed by Nate Chatellier, Gavan Brown, and Manny Trembley, it's a single pack to integrate into the Dice Throne system.
Each turn you roll your five custom dice up to three times, keep what you need, and activate your board's abilities: Smack, Sturdy Blow, Overpower, Mighty Blow. You accumulate combat points, spend them on cards that modify dice — yours, or your opponent's. Then comes Rage!, the Ultimate, and the game changes in one turn.
The Barbarian has the lowest complexity in the system: it's learned in five minutes and hits hard from the first roll. It's the perfect hero for those sitting at the table for the first time — and the one veterans underestimate only once.

Dice Throne — Barbarian
Your arsenal
What you bring to the Mad King's arena
The Barbarian's Dice
Five custom dice with his symbols. Up to three rolls per turn: keep, reroll, decide when to stop.
The Hero Board
Smack, Sturdy Blow, Overpower, Mighty Blow, Reckless, Thick Skin. And at the bottom of the board, Rage!: the Ultimate that no one wants to see coming.
The Dedicated Deck
Cards to play with combat points: permanent upgrades, attack modifiers, dice manipulation — even those of others.
Stun and Concussion
The Barbarian's two signatures. Stun the opponent and attack again. Concuss them and skip their income phase. The pain accumulates.
You don't need a strategy. You need an opponent sitting across from you and five dice to roll hard.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Fifty life points each
I open the board, set up the life counter, take my five dice. Across the table, there's a hero with ten different abilities and a precise plan. I have a red beard and a hammer. Seems like enough.
The first blow that cannot be defended
Three swords on the first roll. I reroll the two remaining dice, another one comes up. Sturdy Blow: four undefendable damage. The opponent holds their defense card and can't use it. They smile wryly. Good.
Stunned. And then hit again.
Mighty Blow, small straight: I inflict Stun. The opponent skips their turn and I attack again consecutively. I feel the moment the game shifts balance — it's no longer an exchange, it's an avalanche.
Reckless: fifteen damage, four to my face
I have fourteen life points and the chance to end it now. Large straight. I hit for fifteen and take four back. The table holds its breath as I count the dice twice. It's always worth it.
Zero. Replay immediately.
The counter reaches zero in twenty-two minutes. No one gets up from the table: heroes are swapped, decks are shuffled, and it begins again. The rematch is already underway before the loser has even finished complaining about the dice.
How to play
The flow of each turn
Four phases that flow in less than two minutes. You learn by watching one turn, you master it by the third game.
Resolve active effects on your board, then draw a card and gain a combat point. This is the phase that Concussion prevents you from doing — and that's why it hurts.
Spend combat points: permanently upgrade a board ability, play action cards, set the stage for the hit you're about to make.
Roll the five dice up to three times, keeping the ones you need. The combination obtained activates a board ability. The opponent can roll for defense — if the hit is not undefendable.
Last cards, last upgrades, discard your excess hand. Then pass the dice and start wondering how to survive the next turn.
Why choose the Barbarian
Six reasons to bring him into the arena
Hit, stun, hit again
Stun and Concussion are his signature: one blow paves the way for the next. You don't manage a combo — you build an unstoppable avalanche.
Undefendable damage
Sturdy Blow and Mighty Blow cut through opponent's defenses. Against heroes built to dodge and parry, the Barbarian is the system's most annoying answer.
Lowest complexity in the system
On the Dice Throne scale, he's the most straightforward hero. You explain him in five minutes to someone who's never played — and within two turns, they're already hurting someone.
Compatible with the entire series
Dice Throne heroes battle each other without limits: Season One, Season Two, Marvel Dice Throne. The Barbarian enters any arena you already have at home.
Your hero grows during the game
Combat points buy permanent board upgrades. Each game is also a small progression: the hero you finish with is not the one you started with.
Twenty minutes, full table
Lightning-fast setup, quick games, zero downtime because even on your opponent's turn you can defend and play cards. You finish and replay immediately — it's the natural cycle of Dice Throne.
How it ends
One way to win. One way to fall.
No score, no final tally. You fight until someone runs out of life points — and with the Barbarian, it happens sooner than expected.
Victory
- Bring opponent's life points to zero — or the last opponent standing
- In 2v2, the team that eliminates both enemy heroes wins
- In free-for-all, whoever knows when to strike and when to be forgotten survives
Defeat
- Your life points reach zero: you're out of the arena
- Reckless hits hard but deals damage back to you — savagery has its price
- There's no consolation, but no wait either: the next game starts in two minutes
Add the Barbarian to your arena and discover how fun it is to win without overthinking. Remember: you need at least two Hero Packs to fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Dice Throne Hero Pack Barbarian
Can I play with this Hero Pack alone?
No, and it's worth saying immediately. The Barbarian Hero Pack contains everything needed for a single hero: to fight, you need at least a second Hero Pack (or a Dice Throne box you already own). It is not a base box and is designed for those who already have the system — or for those building it one hero at a time.
Isn't it just Yahtzee disguised as a combat game?
Luck matters, no denying it: you roll five dice and you don't always get what you need. But you have three rolls per turn, you decide which dice to keep, and cards allow you to modify results — yours and others'. If you're looking for a game where chance doesn't exist, the Barbarian isn't for you. If you're looking for tension and laughs every single turn, yes.
Is it compatible with other Dice Throne heroes?
Yes, with all of them. Dice Throne heroes are designed to battle across seasons: Season One, Season Two, and Marvel Dice Throne mix freely. The Barbarian can enter the ring against any hero in the series, in 1v1, 2v2, or free-for-all.
Is it suitable for those who have never played Dice Throne?
It's the hero with the lowest complexity level in the system, so yes: it's the ideal starting point. Few abilities, all offensive, only one strategy — hit. You understand it while playing the first turn, without re-reading the rules.
How many players and how long does a game last?
The Dice Throne system supports 2 to 6 players — 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2 or free-for-all — provided each participant has a Hero Pack. A battle usually lasts between 20 and 30 minutes, and it's rare to stop at the first one.
Is it available in Italian?
This is the English edition. The text on the board and cards is in English, but the language is repetitive and strongly iconic: after one game, the symbols read themselves. Basic English is needed to play without hesitation.
