FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
You look at the mushrooms Marco left you. Then you look at the ones he kept for himself. And suddenly you understand everything.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Mushrooms, deduction, and the weight of others' choices
Amanite is a deduction and collection game designed by Thanos Vasof, with naturalistic illustrations by Roxane Campoy. Published in 2025 by Spiral Éditions, GateOnGames brings it to Italy with a complete Italian edition. The theme is simple: woodland mushrooms, some precious, others poisonous.
At the table, you collect mushrooms trying to figure out which ones are worth more. The problem: you only have three initial clues, mixed and uncertain. You'll have to deduce the values by observing what others choose when you split the mushrooms. Every choice reveals something. Every split is an encrypted message. Three rounds to understand before others which mushrooms to take home.
What they're saying abroad
Asymmetric information turned into a weapon. Simple, elegant, tense.
— FroGames
Every choice by others tells you a story. It's up to you to read it well.

The puzzle pieces
What you'll find in the box
Mushroom Cards
Each mushroom has a hidden value. Some are worth points, others are poisonous. Your job is to figure out which ones before everyone else.
Clue Cards
Three clues each at the start. But they are shuffled: you don't know which mushroom corresponds to which value. You'll have to cross-reference the data.
Split & Choose Mechanism
One player divides the mushrooms into two groups. The other chooses which to take. Each division reveals what the divider knows.
Poisonous Mushrooms
Collect too many toxic mushrooms and you're out of the running for victory. Even if you have the highest points. Deduction also serves to avoid them.
Recommended Sleeves 80 cards in 2 sizes ▼
If you play often, we recommend protecting your cards with transparent sleeves to make them last a long time.
| Size | Quantity |
|---|---|
| 45 × 68 mm | 70 |
| 80 × 120 mm | 10 |
| Total cards | 80 |
At the end of the game, someone will have read better than others. Someone else will have thought they knew. The difference is everything.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Mixed Clues
You receive three clue cards. Three mushroom-value pairs. But you don't know which mushroom corresponds to which number. You look at the others: same puzzled expression. No one is sure of anything, yet.
The First Split
The first player divides the available mushrooms into two groups. The others choose. You observe: why did they put that red mushroom alone? Maybe they know something. Maybe they're bluffing. You make a mental note.
Cross-referencing Data
Second round. Now you've seen three or four splits. You start to cross-reference: if Marco avoided that mushroom and Laura took it, maybe it's not worth much. Or maybe it's poisonous. Every choice by others is a piece of the puzzle.
The Moment of Certainty
Someone understands first. You see it on their face. Splits that are too confident, immediate choices. You still have a doubt about two mushrooms. The last round will decide everything.
Reveal and Score
The values are revealed. They discover that the yellow mushroom is worth 7 and the blue one is poisonous. Someone cheers, someone curses. Whoever read it best wins. Those who collected too many poisonous ones are out.
How to play
The flow of each round
Three identical rounds in structure, increasing in tension.
The active player divides the available mushrooms into two groups. They don't have to be equal: you can do 5-1, 3-3, however you want. The division says a lot.
In turn order, each other player chooses one of the two groups and takes those mushrooms. Observing who chooses what is fundamental.
Some rounds allow you to draw new clue cards for more information. But they remain mixed: you still have to deduce.
The next player becomes the new divider. This repeats until the round ends. Three rounds in total, then count points.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make a difference
Mixed Clues
You don't receive certainties. You receive three mushroom-value pairs, but you don't know which mushroom corresponds to which value. You have to cross-reference data to figure it out. It's symmetric deduction: everyone starts uncertain.
Evolving Split & Choose
Every division is a message. If I put the red mushroom by itself, I communicate something. If I put it with four others, I communicate something else. Others read your divisions and you read their choices.
Growing Information
Round after round you accumulate data. You observe who takes what, who avoids what. You cross-reference with your clues. Information layers up until the final revelation.
Blocking Poisonous Mushrooms
Collect too many toxic mushrooms and you're out of the running for victory, even if you have the highest score. It's not enough to know what's worth the most: you also have to avoid poison.
Light Weight, High Depth
Rules in five minutes, first game immediate. But the depth lies in reading: observing, deducing, anticipating. Gateway on the outside, puzzle on the inside.
Always Different Setup
The mushroom values change every game. The initial clues also change. Never the same configuration, never the same solution. High replayability in thirty minutes.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Three rounds, then revelation and scoring. But there's a blocking condition.
Victory
- Sum the values of the mushrooms you collected in the three rounds
- The player with the highest score among eligible players wins
- In case of a tie, the player who collected fewer total mushrooms wins
Elimination from victory
- If you collected too many poisonous mushrooms, you're out, even with a high score
- The poison threshold depends on the number of players
- Eligibility comes first, then points: deducing what to avoid is crucial
Amanite is pure deduction within a familiar gateway. Asymmetric information that turns into an advantage if you can read others' choices. Thirty minutes of increasing tension.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Amanite
Is it suitable for those who have never played a deduction game?
Yes, it's one of the best gateways for deduction. The rules are very simple, the information grows gradually, and the first game works immediately. No prior experience is needed, just observation.
Does it work well with two players?
It works well with 2 to 4 players, with different dynamics. In a two-player game, it's more direct: every opponent's choice tells you a lot. In a four-player game, there's more chaos and more information to cross-reference. Both experiences are solid.
How much does luck count in the initial clues?
The clues are mixed for everyone, so the initial advantage is minimal. What matters more is how you read others' choices in the first turns. Those who observe best can quickly catch up even with less useful clues.
Is it a family game or does it require experience?
It's a family game with hidden depth. Accessible rules, immediate theme, short duration. But it rewards those who can read between the lines. Excellent for introducing deduction without being intimidating.
Does the Italian edition include everything in Italian?
Yes, the GateOnGames edition is completely in Italian: cards, rulebook, components. No need to know other languages.
Amanite is a deduction and set collection game for 2-4 players, ages 10+, lasting 30 minutes. Designed by Thanos Vasof and illustrated by Roxane Campoy, it combines the split & choose mechanism with asymmetric information: each player receives mixed clues about mushroom values and must deduce by observing others' choices. Published by GateOnGames in a complete Italian edition, it's played in three rounds where dividing and choosing the right mushrooms (while avoiding poisonous ones) requires deduction, timing, and psychological reading. A perfect gateway for those seeking tension in thirty minutes. Available on FroGames.it.
