The FroGames Review
Write your answer. The judge ranks it. Third place? Zero points. Only those who guess what the judge loves or hates win here.
WHAT IT IS
A friendship test where there is no middle ground
Kasper Lapp, author of That's Not a Hat and Fun Facts, returns with a party game that digs into personal tastes. Extremes Only, published by Korea Boardgames and brought to Italy by Ghenos Games, starts from a simple premise: you don't need to know facts about someone, you need to understand what they love and hate. Art by Dasom Yum.
In turn, one player becomes the judge. They choose a question (favorite movies, sandwiches, fictional characters you'd date), and the others write anonymous answers. The judge ranks them according to their personal taste. Three rounds, three answers. Whoever best guesses the high or low extreme of the ranking earns points. Whoever ends up in the middle, gets nothing.
What they say abroad
"It's less about knowing facts about someone and more about knowing their tastes."
It's not about knowing facts about someone, but about knowing their tastes.

Game just released, presented at Spiel Essen 2026. This review is a first impression based on available materials: we will update it once we have the physical game in hand.

What's in the box
The components of Extremes Only
105 question cards
Three questions per card, all different. Movies, foods, embarrassing situations, dream concerts. Five cards are blank: write your own.
21 reusable answer tiles
Write, submit, the judge lines them up. Then wipe them clean and start again. The table fills with anonymous handwriting.
Two ranking podiums
First, second, third place at the top. Last, second-to-last, third-to-last at the bottom. The middle of the pack is worth nothing.
60 point tokens
The top 3 and bottom 3 earn points. The rest go home empty-handed.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each judge turn
Three rounds with the same question, with a ranking that expands.
Draws a question card, chooses one of the three, and reads it aloud. The other players take an answer tile.
Anonymous answers are submitted. The judge reads them, puts them in order based on their personal taste (not objective: personal). The ranking is revealed.
Same question, new answers. After the second round, the judge reorders all answers (first + second). After the third, a final ranking with all three.
The top 3 and bottom 3 in the final ranking earn points (3-2-1). Those in the middle get zero. The next player becomes the judge.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first judge chooses
Someone draws the card and reads the three questions. "The best sandwich ever." The others look at each other. Some are already laughing, thinking of the absurd answer they’re going to write.
Anonymous answers, first guess
Everyone writes on a white tile and hands it in. The judge reads them aloud, ordering them from best to worst. "Mortadella and stracciatella first, ham toast last." Someone has figured something out about the judge.
Second round, adjustments
Same question, new answer. Now you know the judge loves strange pairings. You write "Nutella sandwich with gorgonzola." Hopefully, it works.
Third round, all or nothing
Last chance. The final ranking will include all three of everyone's answers. Whoever guessed the judge's taste is at the top or the bottom. Those who remained in the middle get nothing.
End of the turn, counting points
3-2-1 points for the top three, 3-2-1 for the bottom three. The rest get zero. Someone yells, "How could you put my answer in fourth place?!" The game continues, new judge.

Know before you go
Three honest things
You need a group that enjoys revealing their tastes
This isn't a game of logic or strategy. It works if people are curious to know (and share) what they love or hate. With a table that's too shy or reserved, it falls flat.
Writing and reading are mandatory
Every turn you write at least three answers, and the judge reads them all aloud. If someone struggles to write quickly or read others' handwriting, it might be frustrating or slow things down.
Zero control over others' scores
The judge decides everything based on their own taste. You can't dispute it; there are no objective criteria. If someone hates feeling judged arbitrarily, this isn't the game for them.
🏆Winning and losingWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and lose
A points-based game with a fixed duration: each player acts as judge once (or more, if you want to extend the game).
Winning
- Guess what the judge loves: finish in the top 3, get 3-2-1 points
- Guess what the judge hates: finish in the bottom 3, get 3-2-1 points
- After all turns, the player with the most points wins
How to lose
- Finish in the middle of the ranking: zero points, every time
- Don't read the judge's tastes well: you fall behind
- Write answers that are too generic: it's easy to end up in the middle of the pack
A party game where getting to know someone is worth more than winning. But winning helps.

FAQ
FAQs about Extremes Only
What mechanics does Extremes Only use?
Pure Player Judge: each turn, one player (the judge) judges the other players' answers based on their personal taste. The system of three progressive rounds with the same question adds a layer of deduction: you learn what the judge likes and adjust your aim.
Does it work better with friends or strangers?
Both, but in different ways. With friends, it becomes a challenge: "How well do you really know me?" and produces moments like, "How could you put my answer last?!". With strangers, it’s a fast icebreaker: you discover that the judge hates cilantro and loves 90s action movies in 10 minutes, without the small talk.
How long does a full game last?
About 30 minutes if each player is the judge once. With 8 players, each turn is longer (more answers to read). You can shorten it by playing fewer rounds or extend it by doing two full laps.
Are the questions replayable?
105 cards with three questions each = over 300 questions. Very hard to run out. And the five blank cards let you invent custom questions for your group (very useful if you always play with the same people).
Is it available in English?
Yes, the edition sold on FroGames is in Italian, localized by Ghenos Games. All question cards and materials are translated.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they’ve done.
Extremes Only is a party game for 3-8 players designed by Kasper Lapp and published by Ghenos Games. Each game lasts about 30 minutes and is suitable for ages 14 and up. The Player Judge mechanic puts one player (the judge) in charge of evaluating others' answers based on their own personal tastes: only those who end up at the extremes of the ranking (top 3 or bottom 3) earn points. A light, immediate, and revealing game, perfect as an icebreaker or to test how well you know your friends. Available at FroGames.it.
