The FroGames Review
Choose your card. Everyone reveals. If you're the only one with that call, you must stay silent. But if someone else chose it too, shout first or get left behind. Every turn is a gamble: you think you're reading the others, but they think they're reading you.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT
A party game where shouting or keeping quiet is the difference between winning and losing
Kakatua is a party game by Elena Cecilia Agus and Denis D'Anna, published by GateOnGames in 2026, with illustrations by Martina Marzulli. It's a parrot race where every turn tests your reflexes and your bluffing ability: you must anticipate others' moves while they try to anticipate yours.
On your turn, choose a card in secret. Everyone reveals simultaneously. If you are the only one with that call, you must stay silent to advance. If someone else chose it, a race against time explodes: the first to shout advances, the one who hesitates stays put. Between bluffs, reads, and wrong calls, the race remains open until the final turn.
What they're saying abroad
"Every turn you have to decide whether to go for it and shout or hold back at the last second to advance!"
— GateOnGames
Kakatua is a party game that promises chaos, laughter, and that kind of tension that makes you shout at the table. It's too early to say if it will become a classic, but the idea is solid: simultaneous choices, brutal timing, no downtime. First read, September 2026.

Your calls
The cards of chaos
Call cards
Each player secretly chooses which call to imitate for the turn. If you're the only one, stay quiet. If someone else chose it, shout first.
Race track
Every parrot has its own lane. Who advances depends on choices and reflexes: a timing error leaves you behind.
Vocal timing
The shouts are not decorative: they are the core mechanic. He who hesitates for an instant loses the turn. He who anticipates too much gets everything wrong.
Bluff and read
You must decide whether to choose the call no one will take (and keep silent) or the one someone else will take (and shout first). They change their minds turn after turn.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn lasts less than a minute: secret choice, simultaneous reveal, immediate reaction.
Each player takes a sound card from their hand and keeps it hidden. You say nothing, but observe the others: who hesitates, who chooses quickly.
Everyone flips their card at the same time. Compare: who chose the same sound? Who remained unique?
If you are the only one with that sound, remain silent and advance. If someone else chose it, you must shout the sound first: whoever hesitates stays put.
Whoever won the turn moves their parrot along the path. Take the card back into your hand and start again. The first to arrive wins.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first trial round
Choose a random card, everyone reveals. Half the table shouts simultaneously, the other half laughs because they didn't understand. Someone asks to repeat the rule. Restart.
The first bluff
Now you get it: whoever stayed quiet last turn is about to change cards. Choose thinking about what they will choose. Everyone reveals different cards. Total silence. No one advances.
The first group shout
Four players choose the same card. Reveal. Overlapping shouts, chaos, someone points at someone else, no one knows who shouted first. People vote, laugh, and restart.
The final overtake
Someone is in the lead, but two turns remain. Everyone chooses against the leader; he changes his mind at the last second, shouts first, and advances again. The others look at each other: is it luck or reading the group?
The finish
Last turn. Two parrots one step from the finish line. They reveal the same card. Simultaneous shout. Laughter, replay, debate about who shouted first. You play again immediately.

Loud game
Shouting is part of the game, not an option. If the table is shy or the setting doesn't allow for noise (a quiet bar, late at night), Kakatua doesn't work. You need a group that accepts chaos.
Subjective timing
Who shouted first? In case of simultaneous shouts, the group decides or votes. No timer, no app. If endless arguments arise at the table about "who went first," the game grinds to a halt.
Replayability to be checked
A party game of pure timing and bluffing: after 5-6 games in a row, the group might have run out of surprises. Excellent as a filler or to start the evening, less so as the main event for the whole night.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How you win and how you lose
The winner is the one who reaches the end of the path first. There is no elimination: everyone plays until the end.
Victory
- Your parrot reaches the last square on the path
- You read the others turn after turn, bluffing and shouting at the right moment
- You won the last vocal race when it really mattered
Falling behind
- You chose the same card as others but shouted too late
- You bluffed too much: everyone chose different cards and you stayed put
- You misread the group's moves and lost the decisive turns
Kakatua is 15 minutes of pure chaos where every choice is a gamble and every shout can change the ranking. There is no deep strategy: just reading, bluffing, and quick reflexes.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Kakatua
What mechanics does Kakatua use?
Simultaneous choice (everyone picks a face-down card and reveals together) + real-time reaction (if multiple players have chosen the same card, they must shout the sound: whoever does so first advances). It is a party game of timing and bluffing, without sequential turns.
Does it work well with 3 players or do you need a full table?
The minimum is 3, but the game explodes with 5-6 players: the more people at the table, the more chaos in the simultaneous reveals, and the harder it is to predict who will choose what. With 3, the dynamics are more linear and predictable.
Is it suitable for children or only adults?
The recommended age is 7+ years and the game is very accessible: rules in 2 minutes, no reading required, immediate mechanics. You just need to figure out when to shout and when to be quiet. Excellent for families with children who love controlled chaos.
How long does a game actually last?
15 minutes as stated. In practice: 10-12 minutes if the group is fast, 18-20 if arguments arise about who shouted first. There are no slow phases: every turn is a simultaneous choice + immediate reaction. Perfect as a filler or to start the evening.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, the edition sold on FroGames is in Italian, published by GateOnGames. The rules, cards, and materials are localized.
