You are holding a card with the hammer and sickle. Your die shows a star: you can place it in the film, face down. You declare that you added a patriotic scene. No one can check — for now.
What it's about
Hollywood 1947 Deluxe: you shoot a film, you hide a message
Hollywood 1947 Deluxe is the fifth chapter of the Dark Cities series by Facade Games, featuring rules by Travis Hancock and illustrations by Sarah Keele. We are in 1947, during the years of the Hollywood witch hunt: each player secretly receives a loyalty — Patriot, Communist, or Rising Star — and a job on the set that changes every round: Screenwriter, Director, Gaffer, Actor, Editor, and others, each with a different power.
Each round produces a film in three phases. In Production, everyone uses their job or re-rolls any two dice. In Post, anyone who rolled a star on their die adds a card face down to the film — declaring whatever they want about what they put in, but never showing it. In Premiere, the cards are revealed and the patriotic and communist symbols are counted: the majority faction wins the round (ties go to the Communists).
The Patriots and Communists win the game by reaching four rounds won. The Rising Star, if present, does not root for anyone: they win alone only if the game reaches the seventh film and the final score remains a tie or a one-symbol difference. The Deluxe version adds three new jobs, three extra genre posters, five metal tokens, nine wooden Propaganda tokens, and the Costume expansion.
Every card you add to the film is a silent political statement: no one sees it immediately, but the table will judge it at the Premiere.
The secret of Hollywood 1947 in one line
There is no elimination, so no one ever stops playing their part — not even when they know they've already lost the round.
From the gaming experience
Hollywood 1947 Deluxe
The rules include official adaptations for 1-3 players, with "ghost" cards that simulate additional presence on the set. It remains a hand and dice management puzzle against the system, not against people: social deduction and bluffing — the heart of the game — remain left out.
What's on set
Roles, jobs, and symbols that make the film
Loyalty Cards
Patriot, Communist, or Rising Star: your secret identity for the entire game. Communists also win tied rounds; the Rising Star plays against both factions to keep the score as close as possible.
Job Cards
Screenwriter, Director, Gaffer, Editor, and others: every round you receive a different one with a unique power, from manipulating dice to looking at secret information. You can forgo the power to re-roll any two dice.
Propaganda Cards
These carry patriotic or communist symbols. Whoever gets a star on their die adds one face down to the current film: no one sees it until all cards are revealed at the Premiere.
Posters and Tokens
Each film starts with a genre poster that already carries a faction symbol. The Deluxe adds three extra posters, five metal tokens, and nine wooden Propaganda tokens to keep track of the game in a more tactile way.
The lights go up. The audience applauds. Someone among them knows exactly what they really saw.

L'esperienza.
Qualcuno resta stranamente in silenzio.

Serve leggere l'inglese sulle carte Lavoro
Come finisce
Tre fazioni, tre modi di vincere
E nessuno viene mai eliminato: tutti giocano fino alla rivelazione finale.
Vittoria

Hollywood 1947 Deluxe è in italiano?
Disponibile su FroGames.it.
