The FroGames Review
You're mid-game. You have three territories, but the opposing gang controls the Net. Someone plays a Sabotage card. The board changes. So do your plans. Now you have to decide: do you defend, or attack in the chaos?
WHAT IT IS
Gang warfare in a cyberpunk metropolis where the city itself is the third wheel
Eric M. Lang, together with Andrea Chiarvesio, Alexio Schneeberger, and Francesco Sedda, brings the universe of Cyberpunk 2077—the cult video game from CD Projekt RED—to the table. Miniatures, a Night City that changes every turn, gangs fighting in the streets and on the Net. Published by CMON in 2023, the game translates the ferocity of the video game into a battle for criminal control of a living city.
Each player leads a gang, deploys members to districts, fights rivals and the city (yes, the city is an opponent), and accumulates Street Cred. Actions influence the board: events are triggered, neighborhoods change hands, and the Net is a parallel battlefield. The winner is whoever has the most reputation at the end of the game. In the solo mode, you face an opposing gang and a legendary Edgerunner (Johnny Silverhand or one of the Vs) in a three-way free-for-all.
What they're saying abroad

Night City is a character in its own right, reacting to player moves.
— CMON
A game that comes from a successful Kickstarter, bringing detailed miniatures, a card-based conflict system, and a city that never stands still. We've read the rules and studied the mechanics: all the ingredients are there. We will update this review as soon as we've played our first full games.

Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
The game includes official rules for 1 player against an opposing gang and an Edgerunner (Johnny Silverhand or V). The experience is complete, but it misses out on the temporary alliances and psychological tension of multiplayer. The bot has coded behaviors that simulate the aggressiveness of Night City well.
Your arsenal
What you actually have in hand when playing
Asymmetric gangs
Each gang has unique abilities, hidden objectives, and specializations (street combat, hacking, intimidation). You aren't playing the same game as the others.
Dynamic board
Night City reacts: events, changes in control, closing districts. The map is never the same for two turns in a row.
Dual front: Meat and Net
Fight in the streets (physical control) and on the Net (hacking, digital sabotage). Dominating only one isn't enough: you must hold both.
Card-based combat
No dice. Skirmishes are resolved with conflict cards: bluffing, timing, and reading the opponent. Whoever plays the right card at the right time wins the Street Cred.

🎲How to playThe rules in four moves▼
How to play
The flow of every round
Four phases that repeat until the end: choose, move, fight, cash in. The city reacts every time.
Each player, in turn, chooses an action: move members, attack a district, use special abilities, operate in the Net. Actions are limited: you must choose what to leave behind.
If two gangs clash in the same district or in the Net, conflict cards are played. No dice: the winner is the one who plays the strongest card or the best bluff. The loser loses members or resources.
Night City reacts: an event card is drawn. Districts lock down, neutral gangs move, bonuses or penalties hit everyone. The city is a player: it changes the board every turn.
You earn reputation points based on controlled territories, completed objectives, and majorities. Whoever has the most Street Cred at the end of the last phase wins the game.
⏱️Your first gameThe chronicle, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Deployment and first territories
Choose your gang, place your miniatures in the starting districts. You look at the board: some have positioned themselves on the Net, others are guarding the streets. You immediately understand who your awkward neighbor will be. Tension starts from turn zero.
First moves, first skirmishes
You move your members, you attack a weak district. The opponent responds with a Sabotage card. Your plan A is ruined. The board changes: a city event locks down a zone. Now you must decide whether to persist or change your target.
War on two fronts
Mid-game. You control three physical districts, but someone dominates the Net and is sabotaging your resources. You must choose: send forces into the digital or defend the streets. Anyone who ignores a front loses Street Cred. Always.
The decisive blow (or disaster)
Someone plays a gang special ability and flips key control. Or a city event massacres everyone in a contested neighborhood. The conflict cards come out: bluffing, timing, reading the situation. A hand won or lost here decides the game.
Street Cred tally
End of the game. Count it up: controlled territories, completed secret objectives, majorities in the Net. The one with the highest reputation wins. Someone discovers a hidden objective gave them 8 extra points. Someone else curses because they lost the Net for a turn.

Three things you must know before buying
Duration often runs over
The box says 90-120 minutes, but with a full table, it easily goes over 120. Each player must plan on two fronts (streets + Net), resolve clashes, and react to city events. If the group is slow or analytical, prepare for 150 minutes.
Downtime with 4 players
With 4, the downtime between your turns can be felt: the other three play, the city changes, you wait. If someone suffers from waiting, consider playing with 2-3 for a tighter pace.
Theme drives the mechanics
It is not a Eurogame disguised as Cyberpunk. The theme commands: city events disrupt plans, asymmetric gangs force different approaches, the Net is a narrative battlefield. Those looking for pure optimization and total control will not find them here.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the end rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Whoever accumulates the most Street Cred wins. Dominating just the streets or just the Net is not enough: you must control Night City on both fronts.
Victory
- You control more physical districts than your opponents at the end of the game
- You have majorities in the Net and key hacking nodes
- You have completed your gang's secret objectives (they are worth hidden reputation points)
Defeat
- Street Cred too low: you ignored one of the two fronts (streets or Net) and others surpassed you
- City events have devastated your territories and you couldn't take them back
- You lost too many key clashes and now control only marginal areas
Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is for those who want a gang war where the city itself is the third wheel. If you are looking for total control, look elsewhere. If you want chaos, tension, and a board that sabotages your plans, this is your game.

FAQ about Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
Do I need to know the Cyberpunk 2077 video game to play?
No. The board game is standalone: the rules explain everything, gangs have their abilities written out, the Cyberpunk theme is clear even without having played the video game. Knowing the CD Projekt universe adds immersion, but it is not necessary.
How much does the bluffing component really matter in clashes?
Clashes are resolved with conflict cards, not dice. You must read your opponent, decide when to play strong cards, and when to bluff. It is not the heart of the game (that is territory control), but in key moments a successful bluff flips the game.
Does the game scale well from 1 to 4 players?
In solo it works well with dedicated rules (opponent gang + Edgerunner). In 2-3 it is tense and fast. In 4, the interaction explodes but downtime increases: if the group is slow, you easily exceed 120 minutes.
What mechanics does Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City use?
Area majority/influence (district control), area movement (moving members), card play conflict resolution (clashes with cards), action retrieval (action recovery), set collection (objectives), variable player powers (asymmetric gangs). The dynamic city does not have a standard mechanical name: it is an event system that modifies the board every turn.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, this is the Italian edition published by Asmodee. Rulebook, cards, components: everything in Italian.
