You have 30 minutes to get to the other side of the Wrecklands. The engine holds, the gas doesn't. Before you are three waves of enemies and a boss waiting for you at the end. Choose what to mount on your vehicle now, because soon you won't have time.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A solo campaign through the post-apocalyptic desert
Wreckland Run is a solo game by Scott Almes (Tiny Epic, One Deck Dungeon) published by Renegade Game Studios in 2022. Set in the Wrecklands, a post-apocalyptic desert populated by raiders and dangers, it puts you in control of a vehicle that you must drive to the other side in 7 narrative chapters. Each chapter is a self-contained 30-45 minute game, but what happens carries over: your vehicle improves, enemies become more dangerous, and sealed envelopes unlock new bosses, components, and rules.
At the table, you play three rounds: in the Wreckage phase, you repair and modify your vehicle by mounting new part cards; in the Run phase, you face waves of enemies using dice and event cards, trying to survive until the final boss of the third round. You win by defeating the boss. You lose if your vehicle is destroyed. Progression is key: each chapter adds pieces to the deck, and you decide how your arsenal evolves.

Wreckland Run presents itself as an interesting experiment in the pocket campaign format. The progressive envelope system promises surprises, but replayability will depend greatly on how much the vehicle's build choices manage to vary the experience. We will update this page after completing the 7 chapters.

Wreckland Run
Wreckland Run is designed exclusively for solo play, with no multiplayer mode. Each game is a race against the enemy deck and the dice, with resource management decisions (which parts to mount, when to take risks) all weighing on you. The experience is complete and self-contained: there's no 'real' multiplayer missing, because the game is born and lives this way.
Your arsenal
Four pillars of your run
Vehicle and Driver
Choose the combination at the beginning of the campaign and carry it through all 7 chapters. Each vehicle has different stats (defense, speed, capacity) and each driver has unique abilities. The choice determines your playstyle: armored tank or fragile but lethal speedster.
Part Cards
Weapons, armor, engines, gadgets. Each round begins in the Wreckage phase by mounting new parts on your vehicle or repairing damaged ones. Parts are earned by defeating enemies, and building the right vehicle is half the battle. Choose poorly and the boss will dismantle you.
Combat Dice
You roll dice to attack and defend during the Run phase. The results are iconic (hits, shields, wildcards) and you can manipulate them with the abilities of mounted parts, but luck matters. A disastrous roll at the wrong time can cost you the game.
Sealed Envelopes
Each chapter of the campaign tells you to open a numbered envelope. Inside you'll find new bosses, new enemies, new parts, and sometimes new rules. It's the legacy-light progression system: you discover what's inside only by playing, and what you add stays in the game for subsequent chapters.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each game is played over three identical rounds: Wreckage (prepare your vehicle) and Run (fight). The third round features the boss.
Repair damaged part cards by spending resources, or mount new parts from your arsenal. Each vehicle has limited slots, so you must choose what to keep and what to leave. Parts provide active or passive abilities, modify dice, add defense or attack.
Draw enemy cards from the deck one at a time. Each enemy has health points, attack, and special abilities. Some activate immediately, others wait. You face them in order, trying to eliminate them before they eliminate you.
Roll dice, apply your parts' abilities to manipulate the results. You deal damage to enemies, they deal damage to you. Event cards (drawn during combat) add unexpected twists: sometimes they help you, more often they complicate things. Any damage taken damages your parts or reduces your vehicle's health points.
If you survive the wave, you move to the next round. If your vehicle drops to 0 health, you lose. In the third round, instead of normal enemies, you face the chapter boss: a dedicated action deck, more health points, devastating abilities. Defeat it to win the chapter.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose what to equip
You are in the Wreckage phase of the first round. You have the part cards you earned in previous chapters (or the basic ones, if it's your first). You have to decide: do I equip the heavy weapon or repair the armor? The third-round boss is far away, but the raiders of the first wave are not. Choose based on what you think you'll need in 10 minutes.
The first wave arrives
Run phase, first round. Draw the first enemy card, roll the dice. The results are not what you hoped for, but one of your parts allows you to re-roll a die. You do it. Critical hit. The raider explodes, you still take damage. The armor absorbs it, but you have a damaged card. Do you replace it or keep it? The second enemy is coming.
Second round, vehicle holds
Another Wreckage phase. You defeated the first wave, but the vehicle is dented. Repair or add firepower? You look at the available part cards, you look at the remaining health points. You decide to mount a new weapon: the boss awaits you in the third round and you can't arrive unprepared. Second wave: dice, event cards, tactical choices. An enemy breaks through your defense, you lose a part. You survive.
Boss fight
Third round, final Wreckage. You use everything you have to prepare. Then the boss card comes out of the deck and you realize that every turn will hurt you. Its action deck is ruthless. You roll the dice, hope, use special abilities. You hit hard, it hits harder. The vehicle is on the brink of destruction. Last roll: two hits needed. You get one. You re-roll a die with an ability. Second hit. The boss explodes.
You passed the chapter
The boss is defeated, the vehicle is half destroyed, but you made it. Open the next chapter's envelope: inside are new part cards, an even nastier boss, and a rule that complicates everything. You add them to the game. The campaign continues. In a few evenings, you'll pick up where you left off, with the same vehicle and the same driver, but stronger. Or unluckier. We'll see.
🐸What to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to know beforehand
Three things to keep in mind
You can build the perfect vehicle, but if the dice roll badly at the critical moment, you lose. Part abilities allow you to re-roll, manipulate results, add bonus faces, but variance remains high. If you're looking for a deterministic puzzle-like solo game, this isn't it. If you enjoy calculated risk and accept defeat due to bad luck, it works.
The 7 chapters are played in order, only once with the discovery of sealed envelopes. After completing the campaign, you can replay chapters or try them with other vehicle/driver combinations, but the surprise factor is gone. Replay value depends on how much you enjoy optimizing different builds, not on the narrative (which is light and functional).
A game lasts 30-45 real minutes, setup is quick (enemy deck, dice, part cards). However, on the table, you need space for the vehicle with its mounted part cards, the active enemy deck, dice, event cards. It's not a cafe table game; you need a kitchen counter or similar. Easy to pack away mid-game if needed.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each game is a chapter of the campaign. The goal is always the same: survive three rounds and defeat the boss.
Victory
- Defeat the third-round boss (reduce its health points to zero)
- Your vehicle still has at least 1 health point
- Open the next chapter's envelope and continue the campaign
Defeat
- Your vehicle drops to 0 health during the Run phase
- All your part cards are damaged simultaneously and you cannot defend yourself
- You can retry the chapter with the same vehicle/driver or change combination and start over
Wreckland Run is a fast narrative solo game that provides entertainment for 7 evenings, with the right mix of risk, progression, and discovery. If you're looking for Mad Max in 45 minutes, it works.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Wreckland Run
What mechanics does Wreckland Run use?
The game combines dice rolling, hand management (managing your vehicle's part cards), light deck-building (adding parts to your arsenal during the campaign), and a scenario/campaign system with progressive envelopes. It's structured like a beat 'em up: waves of enemies, then a boss. Dice luck is high, but vehicle build choices matter.
How long does the entire campaign last?
7 chapters, each 30-45 actual minutes. In total about 4-5 hours of gameplay if you win each chapter on the first try. If you lose and have to retry, it obviously increases. Each chapter is self-contained as a game, but the progression (vehicle, parts, enemies) carries over.
Can I play the chapters out of order?
Technically yes, but it doesn't make sense. The campaign is designed to be played sequentially: each envelope adds components and rules that accumulate. Skipping a chapter means missing parts of the progression. After completing the campaign once, you can replay individual chapters as you wish.
How important is the initial choice of vehicle and driver?
Quite important. The vehicle/driver combination determines your playstyle for all 7 chapters: a slow but resistant tank plays differently from a fast and fragile hot rod. You cannot change it mid-campaign, so choose based on how you like to play. If you make a mistake or want to try another build, you have to start over from scratch.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this edition is in English. The text on the cards is present (part names, abilities, enemy effects), so a basic knowledge of the language is required. The rules are translated into Italian by fans on forums, but the components remain in English. If English is not an issue, the game is accessible.
