The FroGames Card
You have sixteen absurd words in front of you. You choose two, slap them together, and have to convince others that "Brain Fungus" is your new favorite way to say something. And they laugh, or they vote for someone else.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Inventing slang is hard work (but someone's got to do it)
Chris Rio designed Swearmints for Cheer Up Games, then republished by Rampage Games LLC in 2021 in a pocket-sized metal tin. It's a party game for 3 to 5 players where language becomes the battlefield.
You draw two cards with four absurd words on each side (sixteen words total). You choose two from different cards, combine them into a new invented expression, and present your definition to the Mint Master of the round. He or she chooses the best one and rewards with mints (physical token cubes). Alliterations and rhymes give bonus points. When the mints run out, the person with the most wins.

First reading based on available data. Swearmints has few votes on BGG (18 at the moment), so we take the mechanics as given but remain cautious about the promises. We will update as soon as we have more games under our belt.

Word cards
Each card has four absurd words on each side. You receive two: sixteen words from which to choose the winning pair.
Mints (cubes)
Physical pieces that the Mint Master distributes as a reward. When they run out, the game ends. You keep them as markers.
The Mint Master
Each round, one of you is the judge. Listens to the definitions and rewards the one they prefer, without fixed rules.
Rule sheet
The Rampage Games edition finally includes real rules (earlier versions did not). Read it once and you're ready.

The flow of each round
Each turn is an identical microcycle: deal, combine, present, judge.
Each card has four words per side. A total of 16 words available per player. The Mint Master does not play this round.
Choose one word from card A and one from card B. Put them together into a new expression. You cannot combine two words from the same card.
In turn, introduce your newly invented word and explain to the Mint Master what it means. You can act it out, dramatize it, give examples.
They choose their favorite definition and give 1 base mint plus any bonuses (alliteration, rhyme). Then the role passes clockwise.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The Mint Master deals the cards
Everyone receives two cards. You flip them over and have sixteen ridiculous words in front of you. Someone is already laughing reading them. You look for the pair that sounds best or is the funniest.
Choose your combo
You must take one word from each card and put them together. You cannot use two words from the same card. Someone blurts out: I just invented Poopcasso.
You present the definition
In turn, everyone introduces their expression and explains what it means. Those with alliteration or rhyme try to point it out for bonus mints. The Mint Master listens impassively.
The Mint Master's judgment
He or she chooses the favorite definition and distributes the mints. No explanation required. Sometimes the smartest wins, sometimes the silliest.
Role change and end of game
The tin passes to the next player (clockwise), who becomes the new Mint Master. The game continues until the mints run out. The one with the most wins, but everyone remembers Fungus Deer.

Three things you need to know
It all depends on the group's humor
If the table isn't willing to improvise or laugh at absurdities, Swearmints falls flat. It's not a game for serious evenings. The Mint Master has absolute power: no objective metrics.
Few votes on BGG, data still uncertain
At the time of writing, Swearmints has only 18 votes on BoardGameGeek. The average rating (6.09) is low for a party game, but the sample is too small to draw definitive conclusions.
Works best with good language proficiency
The words are in English. If the group is not familiar with absurd terms or Anglo-Saxon slang, many combos lose effectiveness. Better with fluent players.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
There are no eliminations. The player with the most mints wins before the tin empties.
Victory
- Accumulate the highest number of total mints (base + bonus)
- Convince the Mint Master that your definition is the best of the round
- Use alliterations and rhymes to earn bonus mints
Defeat
- The Mint Master never chooses your definitions
- You can't form combos that sound good or are funny
- You finish with few or zero mints
Swearmints is a portable party game that fits in your pocket and only works if the group wants to laugh. If you like Apples to Apples or Dixit but want more improvisation, it's worth the risk.

FAQ about Swearmints
What mechanics does Swearmints use?
Player Judge (the Mint Master chooses the winning definition each turn) and word combination (you take one word from each of your two cards and combine them into a new invented expression). Alliteration and rhyme bonuses add a small tactical layer.
Can 6 or more play?
The game states 3-5 players. With 6+ you should have enough cards (the tin contains 64), but downtime increases and the Mint Master's turn comes less often. It's best to stick to 4-5 for optimal rhythm.
How long does a game really last?
The box says 15-30 minutes. It depends on how many mints you put in the tin at the beginning and how much players elaborate on their presentations. With 3 players and a fast group, even 10-12 minutes. With 5 players and exaggerated antics, you easily reach 30-35.
Do you need to know English well?
Yes. The words on the cards are English terms, often slang or absurd words. If the group has a basic level, many combos lose effectiveness or are not understood. Recommended for fluent or at least intermediate advanced players.
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English, published by Rampage Games LLC. There are no official Italian translations at the moment.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Swearmints is a fast-paced party game for 3-5 players designed by Chris Rio and published by Rampage Games LLC. Each game lasts 15-30 minutes: players combine two absurd words drawn from cards to invent new slang expressions and present their definition to the Mint Master, who rewards the best. Alliterations and rhymes give bonus mints. The game uses the Player Judge mechanic and comes in a pocket-sized metal tin. Recommended age 13+. Available on FroGames.it.
