The FroGames profile
You draw a reinforcement card and overlay it onto your fleet. Your opponent does the same. At some point, one of the two flagships gets stranded, and the sea turns red.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Viking naval warfare in 20 minutes of overlapping cards
Rob Sparks signs off on a modular tactical system that brings Vikings to the high seas. Jorge Tabanera Redondo's illustrations transform every card into a warship ready to sail the North Sea. Published by PIKA Games, CoverUp: Drakkard is part of an expandable system that allows for cross-battles between different sets.
At the table, you overlay reinforcement cards to build the largest fleet or trap the enemy flagship. Each card played covers part of the previous field, sinks enemy ships, or summons sea monsters. The winner is whoever traps their opponent or controls the sea when the deck runs out. Rules in 10 minutes, fast games, immediate tension.
What they're saying abroad

CoverUp: Drakkard
The game includes official rules for solo play. Without published details on how it works, we estimate an acceptable experience but likely inferior to the direct duel, where reading your opponent is everything.
Your fleet
Four elements that build the armada
Reinforcement Cards
Overlay them to expand your fleet. Each placement covers part of the field and can sink enemy ships already deployed.
Flagship
The heart of your fleet. If it becomes trapped with no legal moves, you lose instantly. Protect it or perish.
Sea Monsters
Summon them to block areas of the field, trap the enemy flagship, or defend your position.
Raids
Special actions to attack enemy vessels, overturn desperate situations, or force your opponent to reveal their hand.

How to play
The flow of each turn
Three actions per turn, zero downtime.
Take a reinforcement card from your deck. If you cannot draw, the game is nearing its end.
Overlap the card on the field, respecting placement constraints. Cover enemy ships to sink them.
Optional: trigger a raid to damage your opponent or summon a sea monster to control critical zones.
If the enemy flagship is trapped, you win immediately. Otherwise, pass the turn.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Lightning setup
Shuffle the decks, position the flagships. In 2 minutes you are ready. No boards, no tokens. Just cards and your brain.
First moves
You play a reinforcement card, covering part of the field. The opponent does the same. Fleets grow, space shrinks. You still don't see where they are heading.
Pressure
Halfway through the deck, you realize that you have no free space left. Every placement now sinks something, yours or theirs. You start counting the remaining cards.
The strike
You summon a sea monster, block two enemy ships, the flagship is almost trapped. Or perhaps it is yours that is running out of moves. One of you is about to lose.
End
Someone has their flagship blocked, or the deck runs out and you count the ships. A clear victory or a squeaker. Shuffle and start again: a quarter of an hour has passed.

Newly announced game
Gen Con 2026, zero reviews published. This page is based on the official description. No one has tested the balance or long-term depth yet.
Modular system
You can mix different CoverUp sets (Drakkard + other themes) for cross-battles. An intriguing promise, but nobody knows yet if it really works or creates imbalances.
20 minutes stated
Short duration can be a plus (quick filler) or a limitation (few cards, few choices). It depends on what you're looking for: if you want depth, it might not be enough.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and lose
Two paths to victory, one for elimination.
Victory
- Trap the enemy flagship: it can no longer move or place cards, game over
- Deck out: count the surviving ships, whoever has more wins
- Combine raids and monsters to destroy the enemy fleet before the end
Defeat
- Your flagship is trapped with no legal moves
- You run out of cards with fewer ships than your opponent
- You lose control of the field and are sunk before you can react
A tactical system that promises infinite expansion thanks to cross-compatible sets. If it keeps its promise, it's a filler that grows with you.

FAQ about CoverUp: Drakkard
Can I play Drakkard alone or does it require two players?
The game includes an official solo mode (min_players = 1). We don't have details on the bot or solo rules yet, but it is supported.
What does 'CoverUp system' mean? Can I combine multiple sets?
CoverUp is a modular system by PIKA Games. You can mix Drakkard with other CoverUp sets (e.g., Volcana, announced alongside) for cross-battles or 4-player team games. Each set works standalone.
Are 20 minutes enough to make real tactical choices?
It depends on your expectations. If you are looking for eurogame depth, probably not. If you want a quick tactical duel to play during a lunch break, the short duration is a plus. The small deck limits options but accelerates the pace.
What mechanics does CoverUp: Drakkard use?
Card layering, spatial puzzle, area control, hand management. Each placement modifies the field and sinks covered ships.
Is it available in Italian?
The edition on sale at FroGames is in Italian, published by Cranio Creations. Rulebook and cards are localized.
