Railroad Tiles: Build your rail network, one tile at a time.
Forget the dice. In Railroad Tiles, roads, tracks, and cities come to life thanks to your strategic choices. This family board game , born as an evolution of the popular Railroad Ink, challenges you to build your own network of connections with tiles placed with almost Zen-like care… but with the tension of true urban planning.
In each round, you'll choose tiles from a common pool, creating increasingly extensive connections between roads, railways, cities, and stations. But beware: each choice is final and pushes you into an increasingly narrow spatial puzzle. You can also populate your landscape with cars, trains, and travelers—if you have the space and the right vision!
Easy to explain, but hard to master: Railroad Tiles is a tile-laying board game perfect for the whole family, but capable of driving even perfectionists crazy. Great for solo play, perfect for four, it's one of those games that brings out your engineering side... even if you hate trains.
Because it's a title that deserves its own carriage.
- Draft system with tile selection from the common reserve
- Tactical placement to create connections without blocks
- Bonus objectives for perfect rectangles and adjacent cities
- Suitable for all ages , but with surprising depth
- A train game… without needing to love trains
Railroad Tiles challenges you to connect everything and everyone. And what if you make a bad move? Don't worry, you still have seven rounds to redeem yourself. Maybe.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Draw, then plan
The tiles are there, in columns in the common pool. Everyone studies the same offer and makes the same calculation: which set do I really need? The game starts with a seemingly small choice — but it's already there that you win or lose.
The first connections
You place your tiles in front of you, the routes start talking to each other. The first car arrives, the first train, the first traveler. The landscape takes shape under your hands and every piece you connect to a similar one is worth an extra point.
The round that changes everything
Available actions change from round to round: you have to prepare in advance. And then the evening's expansion comes into play — a lake becomes a station, a canal lengthens, the archaeologist sets off in search of a site. The rules you knew bend.
The perfect fit
There's always that moment: a single tile that closes four connections, a cable that brings power to three cities at once, a set of desert attractions completed at the last minute. You smile to yourself. It's the move you remember.
Counting points
Eighth round, last tile. Connections, gap-free rectangles, sets of cities are counted. Someone wins by a few points — but you're already looking at another expansion box, thinking about the next map.
How to play
The flow of each round
Four phases that repeat for eight rounds. You learn in five minutes, you master it game after game.
Choose and take your tiles from the available sets in the common pool. Be careful: what you leave goes to your opponents.
Arrange the tiles in front of you, seeking maximum connections — without cornering yourself with overly restrictive choices.
Place cars, trains, and travelers — plus the active expansion's pawns — as long as you have free space on the tiles.
The available actions vary each round according to the revealed tokens: you have to look ahead and prepare in advance.

A small world to behold
At the end of the game, the landscape you've built is beautiful to see. The illustrations make every tile a pleasure.
How to win
It's all about points
There's no elimination or direct conflict: the winner is whoever builds the most efficient network and scores the most points in eight rounds. Each expansion adds a new way to score.
Base game points
- Each new pawn is worth more points the more pieces of the same type it connects
- End-game bonus for tiles arranged in a large gap-free rectangle
- Extra points for sets of three adjacent city tiles
Expansion points
- Long canals, station-lakes, pastures full of animals of the same type
- Sets of desert attractions, complete monuments, electrified cities
- Secret objectives that change every game and reward those who plan ahead
Start with the base game, then add one world at a time. With Railroad Tiles, you'll never stop discovering new maps to build.
Frequently asked questions
Railroad Tiles FAQ
Aren't eight expansions too many for such a simple game?
No, because you don't play them all at once. You use one thematic expansion per game: each changes the flow and introduces different terrain, pawns, and objectives. They don't accumulate into a single unmanageable game — you simply choose the world for the evening. This is precisely the strength of the bundle: many variations of the same beloved game, always 30 minutes long.
Is it just Railroad Ink with tiles instead of dice?
It's the next in the series, but it changes quite a bit. Instead of roll-and-write, there's tile drafting from the common pool, pawns to place to populate the landscape, and actions that vary each round. The result is deeper, with a real choice every turn and slight interaction in tile selection. Those who love Railroad Ink will recognize it — and often prefer it.
Does it really work for solo play?
Yes. Railroad Tiles supports 1 to 4 players natively, and the objectives, along with dedicated challenges in some expansions like Monuments, make solo play a replayable puzzle that encourages improving your score.
Can I mix multiple expansions in the same game?
Generally, only one thematic expansion is played at a time, so the game duration remains around 30 minutes. The only exception is the World expansion, specifically designed to combine with the base game and any other expansion, adding new objectives and special pawns.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, the recommended age is 8+. The rules are simple and the first game flows naturally, but the placement and optimization choices keep adults engaged too. It's one of the best family board games to introduce to casual players.
Is this edition in Italian?
Yes. This is the Italian edition published by Cranio Creations: rulebook and materials are in Italian, including the base game and all eight expansions.
