That tile you need is always taken by your opponent. The one you want to discard costs you a point. And the half-finished stars stay there, reminding you how close you were.
ABOUT THIS GAME
The summer pavilion King Manuel I never saw
At the beginning of the 16th century, King Manuel I of Portugal commissioned a summer pavilion to honor the most illustrious members of the royal family. The project never started: the king died before it could begin. Michael Kiesling — designer of the first Azul — takes up that unfinished dream and transforms it into the third chapter of the series, released in 2019 for Next Move Games with illustrations by Chris Quilliams.
At the table, you draft tiles from shared factories, choose a color, and fill numbered spaces on seven stars. Each round, one color becomes a wildcard, completely changing your priorities. Surrounding pillars, statues, and windows grants you immediate bonuses: new tiles to place instantly. But if you end the round with more than four tiles in hand, every excess one costs you a point. And incomplete stars at the end of the game are worth nothing.
What they say abroad
"The wildcard system adds a fresh twist to the Azul formula — it's tighter and more punishing."

— Meeple Mountain
Summer Pavilion is the chapter that rewards those who plan two turns ahead. Stars fill up slowly, bonuses speed everything up, and the final round is always a massacre of calculations.

What's in the box
The materials of the pavilion
Colored tiles
Six colors plus wildcards. Each round one of the six becomes wild: you can use it in place of any other. Priorities change completely turn after turn.
Seven-star boards
Each has spaces numbered 1 to 6. To place a tile on the blue-5, you must discard five blue (or wildcard) tiles. The star fills up slowly, but every connection yields points.
Pillars, statues, windows
Surround them completely to take 1-3 tiles from the center as a bonus. Place them immediately: it's the only way to really accelerate.
Factories and discard tower
5/7/9 factories (based on player count), each with 4 tiles. Take all tiles of one color, plus a wildcard if present. What remains goes to the center.

Mastery and Color
DIAMOND STARS
Every diamond laid is a step towards perfection
Forget rigid, linear rules: here, you build magnificent stars by exploding in six different directions on a board that breathes freedom. The heart of the game lies in managing your hand, deciding which colors to sacrifice to place the crucial ones.
The real challenge isn't just capturing tiles, but understanding the pace of the game. Each round, a color becomes a "wild card," transforming seemingly useless tiles into invaluable resources and instantly overturning your opponent's calculations.
The highlight is when your placements trigger multiple bonuses, allowing you to draw for free from the central tower and fill impossible gaps. It's a dance of efficiency where every waste is minimized and every choice makes you feel like a brilliant architect.
Where it rewards you
Surrounding specific elements gives you extra tiles, triggering epic and lengthy turns.
The "floor" penalizes less than the first Azul, making the experience more positive.
Clever use of Jokers allows you to recover even when luck seems to be running out.
Filling the multicolored central star requires planning but pays off with high scores.
At the end of the game, your board is an explosion of geometric colors that's beautiful to photograph.
Winning requires looking at your opponents' boards and anticipating which color they will want to steal from you.
Where it tests you
Azul Summer Pavilion establishes itself as a modern board game essential for lovers of intelligent puzzle games. Drafting mechanics blend with resource management to create ever-changing and never-ending challenges. Perfect for family evenings or intense challenges between experts, it offers luxurious materials and infinite replayability thanks to the variable rounds.
