Pairs well with
The FroGames Card
You've just caught a huge tuna, but in the same bag there's a shark that could devour your catch. This season, customers are asking for flavors you've never worked with before. And the old boats are no longer enough.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A new year, unexplored waters, and challenges that test your business
Exotic Tides is the official expansion for Conservas, designed by Scott Almes and illustrated by Jorge Tabanera. After a successful first year at your canning company on the Spanish coast, it's time to venture beyond familiar waters. Your customers are hungry for new flavors from the sea, but new routes bring unprecedented dangers: eels, tuna, and hungry predators.
The expansion introduces three modules that can be combined as desired: a new Market Book with 12 new scenarios (each with two difficulty levels), new Boat and Upgrade cards, and Location tiles that add geographical variability. Each module raises the stakes: manage more complex fish populations, prevent sharks from devouring your catch, and complete objectives that balance profit and sustainability in ways never before seen in the base game.
What they say abroad
"New markets, new boats, new dangers—the game won't play the same again."

— Salt & Pepper Games
This expansion enriches Conservas with a second season that isn't just 'more content,' but new tensions. We haven't seen full international reviews yet: this page will be updated in the coming months with quotes and impressions from the field.

Conservas: Exotic Tides
Exotic Tides is designed exclusively for solo play, like the base game. It adds new scenarios, mechanics, and challenges without changing the nature of the experience: it's still you against the sea, the bag, and your objectives.
What the expansion adds
The new elements that change the game
Predators
Sharks enter the bag. If you catch one, it can devour part of your harvest before you can can it. Planning your fishing becomes a game of probability and risk.
Tuna and eels
New fish species with different values and dynamics. Tuna are prized but rare, eels require special processing. Each fish changes the composition of the bag and the strategy.
Location Tiles
New Location tiles add geographical variability: each area has special rules that modify fishing, breeding, or selling. The sea is no longer a single homogeneous ecosystem.
New Market Book
12 completely new scenarios, each with two difficulty levels. Objectives, constraints, and customer demands you've never seen in the base game: a full second season.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Exotic Tides maintains the basic game structure, adding new decisions at each stage thanks to new Locations, predators, and fish.
Draw fish and water tokens from the bag (which now also contains sharks, tuna, eels). Decide how many to fish based on your boat's capacity. If a shark appears, immediately apply its effect: it can devour part of your catch.
Choose which fish to keep for canning and which to release back into the sea to reproduce. Released fish generate new tokens that go into the bag. Managing populations is vital: overfish and the sea empties.
Can the fish you kept and sell them according to the current Market Book rules. New scenarios have specific demands: some pay more for tuna, others penalize eels. You earn money and advance towards your objectives.
Spend money to buy new Boat cards (more capacity, special abilities) or Upgrades (better processing capabilities, bonuses). Active Locations can modify costs or effects. Prepare for the next turn.
⏱️Your first gameThe chronicle, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
New year setup
Choose one of the new scenarios, shuffle the new Boat and Upgrade cards, place the Location tiles. The bag already contains sharks and tuna: the sea has changed. Read the objectives and immediately understand that this season will not be like the last.
First fishing with predators
Draw the first tokens from the bag. Among sardines and anchovies, a shark appears. Your heart races: if you catch too many, the harvest is lost. You decide to immediately relaunch part of the catch, sacrificing some safe fish to avoid the risk. The probability calculation begins.
Strategic adaptation
Mid-scenario. Market demands are specific: they want eels and tuna, not the usual sardines. You buy a new boat with special capacities and invest in upgrades that allow you to better manage predators. The growth curve accelerates.
The balance breaks
You've caught too much tuna. The bag empties of valuable prey, reproduction can't keep up, and sharks increase. A Location gives you a temporary bonus, but you know the next round will be lean. You calculate, optimize, hope.
Final result
Check your objectives: profit achieved, sustainability... almost. You are two fish above the overfishing threshold. You fail the scenario. Or you win by a hair, thanks to that Location card that saved you in the last round. Reread the rules, already thinking about your next attempt.

Good to know beforehand
Three things that really change
Requires the base game
Exotic Tides is a pure expansion: not playable alone. You need Conservas for the bag, the starting boats, and the fundamental mechanics. If you don't own the base game, start with that.
Increasing complexity
Predators, Locations, and new fish add layers of decision. If the base Conservas already felt challenging, the curve here goes up. Recommended after completing at least half of the original scenarios.
Total modularity
You can use one, two, or all three modules (Market Book, Boats/Upgrades, Locations). This means the expansion scales: you start slow and add pieces when you're ready. But it also means that setup and teardown take longer.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Exotic Tides uses the same victory/defeat structure as Conservas, but with new and stricter objectives in the 12 new scenarios.
Victory
- You complete all financial objectives of the scenario (revenue, types sold, upgrades purchased)
- You respect sustainability limits: the sea has not been overfished beyond the permitted threshold
- You manage predators without losing critical catches that prevent you from reaching your targets
Defeat
- You exceed the overfishing limit: you've fished too much and the ecosystem collapses
- You do not reach the financial objectives within the number of rounds of the scenario
- Predators devour enough of your catch to make you miss your sales targets
Conservas: Exotic Tides is for those who have already explored the waters of the base game and want a second, more difficult, varied, and richer season. It's not bonus content: it's a new challenge.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Conservas: Exotic Tides
Can I play Exotic Tides without the base game?
No. Exotic Tides is a pure expansion: it requires Conservas base game for the bag, starting cards, and fundamental components. It is not standalone.
Can the three modules be used separately?
Yes, the expansion is modular. You can add only the new Market Book, or only the Boat/Upgrade cards, or only the Locations, or combine all three. Scale it based on how much you want to complicate the experience.
What mechanics does Conservas: Exotic Tides use?
It maintains the base game's bag building (managing the bag as a dynamic resource), ecosystem management (balance between fishing and reproduction), and adds push-your-luck (predators increase risk), scenario/campaign (new progressive objectives), and tile placement (Locations).
Is it harder than the base game?
Yes. Predators add risk, Locations add variability, and new fish add complexity to the bag's composition. The Market Book scenarios are designed for those who have already completed the original 12 months. Expect a steeper curve.
Is it available in Italian?
The edition for sale is in English. Language dependency is moderate: the cards have functional text (abilities, objectives), but those familiar with the base game and a bit of English will navigate it without problems. No official Italian translations are available at the moment.
