The FroGames Card
A wizard with an Aedric spear manipulates the die you were about to roll. The assassin waits in the shadows for your quest unit to approach. And the board beneath your feet keeps trembling with anomalies no one predicted.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Magic, assassins, and anomalies in Tamriel's most beautiful lands
Summerset is an expansion for The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era, the massive cooperative campaign game from Chip Theory Games that brings the world of Elder Scrolls Online to the tabletop. Set in the Summerset Isles, one of Tamriel's most fascinating and dangerous provinces, under the control of the Aldmeri Dominion.
Here the group faces unpredictable magical anomalies, fights mages wielding Aedric spears capable of manipulating dice, and builds characters around two new skill lines: Aedric Spear (heavy weapons scaled with magicka) and Assassination (devastating critical hits on vulnerable targets). The board is unstable, choices multiply, the path to greatness in the Second Era is never just one.

— Meeple Mountain
Summerset adds tactical depth and variability without being cumbersome. Magical anomalies keep the table constantly tense, even when you think you're in control. It's exactly what an expansion needs: to multiply possibilities without rewriting the foundations.

The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era – Summerset
The base game natively supports solo play with the same rules as multiplayer, and Summerset integrates without modification. The experience is complete but the manipulation of dice by Aedric mages loses some of its tactical appeal without human opponents to surprise.
What's in the box
Four pillars of the expansion
PVC Map of Summerset
Modular PVC board that integrates with the other provinces. Summerset is described as one of Tamriel's most beautiful lands, but also the most magically unstable.
Aedric Spear Line
New skill line for mages: heavy weapons that scale with magicka instead of strength. Hybrid builds that blend physical attack and arcane manipulation.
Assassination Line
Assassins hide and strike powerful quest units. Once the target is eliminated, they power up. Grim Focus and critical hits on vulnerable enemies.
Magical Anomalies
Unpredictable events that alter rules during the session. The ground beneath you is unstable, and things can happen before you're ready.

The flow of an exploration turn
Summerset integrates into the core game loop: choose where to move, face encounters, manage resources, develop your character.
Choose a destination on the Summerset map. Draw an encounter card: it can be an enemy, an event, a side quest, or a magical anomaly that changes the conditions of the turn.
Roll your custom skill dice. Aedric mages can manipulate results (their own and enemies'), assassins wait for the right moment to critical strike vulnerable targets.
Complete quest objectives, collect loot, gain experience. The new Aedric Spear and Assassination skill lines unlock with strategic choices: build magicka/damage hybrids or specialize in one direction.
Summerset's magical anomalies can activate at any point during the phase. Some change the terrain, others alter dice, and still others modify combat rules until the end of the turn.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Landing in the Isles
Open the Summerset gazetteer, place the PVC board next to the provinces you already know. Someone chooses an Aedric mage, someone else wants to try the assassin. First magical anomaly drawn: everyone looks perplexed, no one really knows what it means yet.
The first manipulation
The Aedric mage uses their ability to change an enemy's dice roll. A murmur rises at the table: "Wait, you can do that?". Yes, you can. And it changes the entire attack plan you had built. For the better.
The assassin in the shadows
A powerful quest unit gets too close. The assassin emerges from the shadows, strikes a critical hit, eliminates it. Immediate class upgrade. Someone at the table smiles, someone else takes notes for the next build.
Anomaly in combat
You are in the middle of a fight when a magical anomaly that no one had predicted triggers. The terrain flips, positions change, the enemy you were about to finish is now out of reach. Creative curses in all the languages of Tamriel.
Unstable victory
Quest completed, but no one is sure what really happened in the last ten minutes. Someone counts experience points, someone else flips through newly unlocked skill cards. The next session will be different. Always.

Requires the base game (and it's not small)
Summerset is not standalone. You need The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era base game, which already takes up 9 kg of box, 95 pages of rules, and requires a dedicated table. If you don't have the base game, this expansion is not for you. If you do, you already know what to expect.
Long sessions, table occupied for days
A session can last 2-4 hours, but the campaign develops over multiple consecutive sessions. There's no convenient save system: either you leave everything set up on the table, or you resign yourself to disassembling and wasting time re-setting up. It requires physical and mental space.
Anomalies add chaos, not everyone loves it
Magical anomalies are random events that change rules mid-combat. Some love them because they break up excessive planning, others hate them because they nullify 20 minutes of tactical setup. It's not a flaw, it's a design choice: Summerset is inherently unstable.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Summerset follows the base game rules: complete quests, survive encounters, advance your character in the campaign.
Victory
- Complete all objectives of Summerset's main quest
- Your character reaches a sufficient level to face the final boss
- Unlock enough Aedric Spear or Assassination skills to survive the final encounters
Defeat
- All characters in the group are eliminated (fatigue beyond the limit)
- Fail a critical campaign objective that prevents progression
- A magical anomaly puts you in an untenable position and you cannot recover
Summerset is not for everyone. But if you love long campaigns, complex builds, and the idea that the table can betray you when you least expect it, this expansion does exactly what it promises.

FAQ about The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era – Summerset
Can I play Summerset without the base game?
No. Summerset is an expansion that requires The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era base game. It is not standalone; it does not include the complete rules or fundamental components (base dice, character mats, rulebook).
What mechanics does The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era – Summerset use?
Custom dice rolling, icon resolution, modular hexagonal grid, variable character powers, technology trees (skill lines), scenario-based campaign, pure co-op. Summerset adds dice manipulation, critical hits on vulnerabilities, and magical anomalies that alter rules in real-time.
How much does it add in terms of duration?
Summerset expands the base campaign with new quests, provinces to explore, and classes to unlock. A single session remains between 120 and 240 minutes (2-4 hours), but the new skill lines and magical anomalies multiply the build combinations, so the total hours of gameplay increase significantly.
Are magical anomalies optional?
No, they are an integral part of the Summerset setting. If you don't like procedural chaos or events that change the rules during the game, this expansion might not be for you. The instability of the terrain is a feature, not a bug.
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English. The base game rulebook is 95 pages long, and the text on the cards is fundamental to gameplay. It requires a good understanding of written English.
