The FroGames review
Descend. The torch flickers. Something is digging through the rock wall. You have ten turns before your sanity drops to zero and the Shadow Creatures find you. The Thulecite is down there, you know it. But so do they.
WHAT IT IS
When the surface is no longer enough, descend where the darkness is alive
Cave Calamities is the expansion that takes Don't Starve: The Board Game underground. Designed by Rafał Pieczyński (Frostpunk: The Board Game) for Glass Cannon Unplugged, it adds entire cave and ruin biomes to the base game, with new mechanics, new monsters, and Thulecite, an ancient resource you can craft into powerful items both deep underground and on the surface.
Explore dark caves tile by tile, face Depth Worms and Rock Lobsters, gather rare materials, and experience the Nightmare Cycle: a system that intensifies the threat of the Shadow Creatures as your sanity drops. Play with two new characters, Wortox (a heart-stealing imp) and Wormwood (an animated plant), each with unique abilities and dedicated components.
What they say abroad
"Down here you'll encounter strange new monsters, explore underground biomes, and uncover Thulecite."
Down here you'll encounter strange new monsters, explore underground biomes, and uncover Thulecite.
— Glass Cannon Unplugged
Cave Calamities is an expansion for those who have already seen everything on the surface and want to descend where every step costs sanity. The Don't Starve base game is brutal; this expansion adds a vertical layer of pressure. First read, October 2026.

Don't Starve: The Board Game – Cave Calamities
The base game supports official solo play with dedicated rules, and Cave Calamities integrates perfectly. The solo experience is complete: you manage a character against procedural biomes and the Nightmare Cycle, but you lose the cooperative synergy and the sharing of resources, which already made a difference on the surface.
What you find in the caves
The expansion pieces
Cave and Ruin Biomes
New underground location cards. Each biome has its own mechanics, specific monsters, and rare resources. You explore tile by tile as on the surface, but here the darkness is a mechanical threat.
Thulecite
Ancient resource that you find only underground. You craft it into powerful items usable both in the caves and on the surface. It is the reason you descend, but gathering it costs sanity and turns.
New Monsters
Depth Worms, Rock Lobsters, Clockwork pieces. Each creature has unique behaviors and threats. Some dig, others chase you, all want you dead.
Nightmare Cycle
System that intensifies the Shadow Creatures as your sanity drops. It is no longer just a bar to monitor: it is a countdown timer to mental collapse.

L'esperienza.
Qualcuno prova a combattere, qualcuno scappa. La sanità inizia a scendere. La torcia consuma risorse ogni turno. Ti chiedi già se hai portato abbastanza.
Thulecite in vista

Come finisce
Vittoria e sconfitta sottoterra
Vittoria
Sconfitta
- Tutti i personaggi muoiono sottoterra (sanità a zero, morti in combattimento, divorati dalle Creature d'Ombra)

FAQ su Don't Starve: The Board Game – Cave Calamities
Serve il gioco base per giocare?
Sì, Cave Calamities è un'espansione. Richiede Don't Starve: The Board Game completo.
Posso giocare Cave Calamities senza aver mai giocato Don't Starve base?
È in italiano? Serve sapere l'inglese?
