FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
You never know what game awaits you until you open the bag. The pyramids decide everything.
What it's about
One box. Twenty-two games. Endless evenings.
Pyramid Arcade is the definitive box set of the Looney Pyramids system, designed by Andrew Looney and colleagues with illustrations by Eileen Tjan, published by Looney Labs. Inside are 90 colored pyramids in ten colors and three sizes, plus boards, dice, and a rulebook that opens the doors to twenty-two different gaming experiences.
The pyramids are not just any pawns — they are the system. They stack, orient, move, attack, and defend in completely different ways depending on the game you're playing. Homeworlds is an abstract space wargame. IceTowers is pure real-time chaos. Martian Chess is an elegant abstract with no fixed pieces. Each title uses the same pieces but takes you to a different place.
It's not a collection of light mini-games — many of the 22 titles have strategic depth that holds up over dozens of plays. It's the kind of box that stays on the table for months, always ready for the right game with the right group.
The same ninety pieces, twenty-two completely different games — it's the magic of the Looney Pyramids system in all its breadth.
The secret of Pyramid Arcade in one line
From a five-minute filler with kids to an hour-long space wargame: Pyramid Arcade adapts to whoever is at the table.
From the game experience
Pyramid Arcade
What's inside
A game system, not a box of pieces
90 pyramids, 10 colors
Three sizes — small, medium, large — for ten colors. The same pyramid can be a chess piece, a spaceship, or a token. It all depends on the game.
22 complete games
Abstract, party, tactical, real-time. From Martian Chess to IceTowers, each uses the system in an original way. There are games for two people and games for ten.
Boards and dice included
Modular boards, special dice, and everything you need for all 22 games. Open the box, choose a title, start playing immediately — without buying anything else.
One rulebook, twenty-two doors
The rulebook explains each game independently. You learn one at a time — you don't have to master everything before you start having fun.
Tonight you could be playing something completely different than last night — using the same pieces. With Pyramid Arcade, the box never runs out.

An evening in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The bag on the table, the discussion begins
Pour out the pyramids. Ninety colorful pieces scatter, and immediately someone asks "what are we playing tonight?". The answer isn't obvious — and that's already part of the fun. You flip through the rulebook, propose, vote.
Rules explained in five minutes
Whatever game you've chosen, the rules sink in quickly. Not because they're trivial, but because the pyramid system is visually intuitive. Large on small, color matters, orientation matters. There we go. Let's start.
The moment the game "clicks"
There's always a turn where you stop thinking about the rules and start thinking about strategy. Or chaos takes over and no one knows where to look anymore. In both cases, the table is alive. The pyramids don't lie.
One game ends, you want to play again
The first game is almost always a warm-up. You understand what works, you intuit what could have been done better. Someone says "one more" and no one objects. The pyramids are reassembled.
The evening ends with the wrong question
When you finally put everything back in the bag, someone asks: "didn't we also get another game from this?" Yes. There are still twenty-one titles you haven't touched. Next week, you'll choose another one.
How the system works
The same pieces, a new game every time
Looney Pyramids are a system, not a set of pawns. Here's how it translates to every session.
Browse the rulebook, assess how many players you have and how much time. A ten-minute filler or an hour-long abstract wargame — both are in the same box.
Most games set up in under two minutes. Distribute the pyramids by color or size, place the board if needed, choose who starts.
The size, color, and orientation of the pyramids have different meanings depending on the game. The same physical piece carries different information in each title — it's the heart of the system.
Put the pyramids back in the bag in thirty seconds. You can replay the same title or randomly open the rulebook and discover something new — each game restarts from scratch.
Why it's unique
Six things no other box does
A physical system, not a collection
Looney Pyramids are not generic pawns. Size, color, and orientation carry information. They are a game language learned once and applicable to all titles.
22 games with zero duplication
Each title uses the system in an original way. IceTowers is real-time chaos. Martian Chess is a cool, precise abstract. Homeworlds is a long-range space wargame. Zero overlap.
From 5 years old to expert players
Some titles are designed for children, others challenge players with years of experience in abstract games. The same box scales to the group effortlessly.
One box that replaces ten
For those with little space or wanting a single versatile box, Pyramid Arcade is a serious answer. No crowded shelves — just one box that covers every occasion.
Gateway to abstract games
Those new to abstract games will find a gentle introduction here. Those already familiar will find new variants. The system works for both without compromise.
It never truly ends
The Looney Labs community has produced hundreds of additional variants and games over the years. Those who want to go beyond the 22 included titles have an entire ecosystem to explore.
How it ends
Twenty-two different ways to win
Each game has its own victory conditions. There's no single answer — it depends on what you chose to play that evening.
Some examples
- In Martian Chess: the player with the most points when the pyramids run out
- In IceTowers: whoever has the tallest tower at the end of the time limit
- In Homeworlds: whoever destroys the opponent's homeworld
How to choose
- With young children: IceDice, Give or Take, or Pyramid Shambo
- With experienced gamers: Homeworlds, Volcano, or Martian Chess
- With large groups: IceTowers or Zark City work for up to 6-8 players
Pyramid Arcade is the box that always says yes — whatever the group, whatever the evening. The only question is: which of the 22 do you start with?
Frequently asked questions
Pyramid Arcade FAQ
Is it worth buying if I already know two or three Looney games?
It depends on which ones. If you already have the pyramids and those titles are enough for you, probably not. But if you want access to the entire system in a single box — including games like Homeworlds or Volcano that would otherwise require separate sets — Pyramid Arcade is the most direct solution.
Are all 22 games quality? Or are there weak titles?
As with any collection, not all titles carry the same weight. Some are established classics with years of play behind them — Homeworlds, Volcano, and Martian Chess among them. Others are light fillers designed to fill an evening while waiting for something else. The real value is concentrated in at least a dozen excellent titles.
Is it suitable for young children?
The recommended age is 5 years. Some titles like IceDice or Pyramid Shambo are designed specifically for younger players — minimal rules, lots of physicality, and vivid colors. Older children (8+) can start to approach tactical titles. Not all 22 games are suitable for all ages, but the range truly covers everything.
How many players can really play?
The included games cover 1 to 10 players, but not all titles scale in the same way. Most work best with 2-4 players. IceTowers is one of the few that holds up well with up to 8 people. The rulebook specifies the ideal number of players for each title.
Are there expansions or additional games?
The Looney Pyramids system is open and active. Looney Labs has published additional sets of pyramids, and the community has created hundreds of unofficial games available for free online. Pyramid Arcade is an entry point, not a limit.
The rules are only in English. Is that a problem?
This is the English edition. The rules for individual games are written in English in the included booklet. For most titles, the text is minimal — the system is visual — but a basic knowledge of English helps with the first reading. There is no official Italian edition.
