FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Someone screams with joy because they found the pink tuft. Someone cries because the die betrayed them. And in the end, everyone wants to play again.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Five buffaloes in search of their lost wool tufts
Koen Terra designed this game for little ones, where five cuddly buffaloes try to recover their wool tufts scattered across the meadow. Published in 2024 by Ctrl Publish, Knuffel Buffel combines visual memory, dice luck, and small trades between players. The colorful illustrations and tender theme make each game an immediate and engaging adventure.
Each player controls a buffalo and must collect all the tufts of their color. The die decides where to search, memory helps to remember where the right tufts are hidden, and trading allows for surprising exchanges. The game flows quickly: the first to complete their buffalo wins. But beware: an unlucky roll can make you lose the tufts you just collected.
What they're saying abroad
A perfect game to teach children the value of memory and sharing, without ever getting boring.
— FroGames
The cuddly buffaloes immediately win you over. The mechanics are simple but never predictable: every roll of the die can change everything.

Inside the box
The five buffaloes and their colorful tufts
Five cuddly buffaloes
Each player chooses their buffalo and tries to complete it by collecting all the tufts of its color. Each buffalo has a unique and adorable visual personality.
Wool tufts
Soft tufts of five different colors, scattered face down on the table. Finding the right ones requires memory, luck, and a touch of cunning in trades.
Action die
The die decides whether you search for a new tuft, trade with an opponent, or lose everything. Each face has a clear and immediate icon for children.
Trading system
Tufts can be traded between players. Children quickly learn to negotiate, give, or barter to get what their buffalo needs.
In ten minutes, someone will have completed their buffalo, and everyone will want to play again. It always happens with games that know how to make themselves loved.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choosing your buffalo
Each child chooses their cuddly buffalo and the tufts are shuffled face down. The anticipation is palpable: who will be the first to find the right tufts? The die passes from hand to hand as the little ones look at their still unadorned buffaloes.
The first dice rolls
The die begins to decide. Someone immediately finds a tuft of their color and shouts with joy. Someone else picks up the wrong tuft and has to negotiate right away. Memory starts working: remembering where the tufts seen by others are becomes an advantage.
Exchanges and betrayals
Now the game heats up. Children start bartering tufts among themselves: those who have collected the wrong colors try to convince others to trade. Alliances are formed and broken in seconds. Someone gives a tuft out of kindness, someone else negotiates hard.
The traitorous die
One face of the die bears the dreaded icon: lose everything. Someone who was about to win rolls the die and has to put all the tufts back on the table. The table erupts: shouts, laughter, disbelief. The game reopens and everyone has a chance again.
The complete buffalo
One of the players places the last tuft on their buffalo and raises their hands to the sky. Victory! The others look at their still incomplete buffaloes and immediately ask: shall we play again? The tufts return to the center of the table. We start over.
How to play
The flow of each turn
Each turn is a very quick sequence: dice, action, pass turn. Children learn after just one round.
The active player rolls the die and looks at the icon shown. Each face corresponds to a different action: search for a tuft, exchange with another player, lose a turn, or (in the worst case) lose everything.
If the die says to search, the player flips a tuft face up. If it's their color, they keep it. Otherwise, they put it back down (and everyone tries to remember where it was). If the die says to exchange, the player negotiates with an opponent.
If the player has completed their buffalo with all the tufts of their color, they win immediately. Otherwise, the die passes to the next player.
The die passes to the player to the left. The game continues quickly until someone completes their buffalo.
Why it's different from others
Six elements that make a difference
The die of surprises
Each face of the die has a different icon. There are no numbers to read: even the youngest children immediately understand what to do. And the "lose everything" face keeps everyone on the edge of their seats.
Accessible memory
The tufts are shuffled face down, but remembering where the ones seen by other players are helps a lot. Memory works effortlessly: even those who don't remember everything can win thanks to trades or luck.
Spontaneous trading
Children quickly learn to negotiate. "I'll give you the pink tuft if you give me the yellow one" becomes a recurring phrase. Exchanges teach sharing and strategy naturally, without forcing.
Five adorable characters
Each buffalo has a unique and colorful design. Children immediately become attached to their own and want to complete it. The cute theme works: no one is indifferent to a cuddly buffalo looking for its tufts.
Quick games
10-20 minutes and it starts again. The rhythm is perfect for the little ones: long enough to engage, short enough not to tire. You play three games in a row without anyone noticing.
Immediate rules
Explained in 3 minutes, understood in one. No need to re-read the manual: after an example turn, children play by themselves. Zero downtime, zero confusion, just fun.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Victory is simple and clear: complete your buffalo before others. But the die can turn everything around until the last turn.
Victory
- Be the first player to collect all the tufts of your buffalo's color
- Place the last tuft on your buffalo and declare victory immediately
- Other players look at their incomplete buffaloes and ask for a rematch
Memorable defeats
- The die betrays you: you roll the "lose everything" face and have to put all collected tufts back on the table
- An opponent completes their buffalo just as you were about to win
- You forget where you saw the tuft you needed and another player finds it first
Knuffel Buffel is one of those games that children immediately ask to play again. Simple, fast, adorable and surprisingly deep for its age.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Knuffel Buffel
Is it really suitable for 4-year-olds?
Yes, absolutely. The rules are immediate, the die has clear icons (no numbers to read), and the adorable theme immediately captures attention. After an example turn, children play by themselves. The memory required is minimal, and luck helps level the playing field.
How long does a game last?
Between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the number of players and luck. It's perfect for the little ones: long enough to be fun, short enough not to be tiring. Generally, 2-3 games are played in a row.
Is trading difficult for children?
No, on the contrary: children quickly learn to negotiate and have a lot of fun. Exchanges are spontaneous and not mandatory. Some give tufts out of kindness, others cheat a little. It's part of the fun and teaches sharing naturally.
Does it work well with 2 players?
It works, but it loses a bit of chaos and interaction. With 3-5 players, the table heats up more: exchanges are more frequent, memory is stimulated more, and the traitorous die causes more damage. In 2, it's still enjoyable for playing with a child.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English, but the game is completely language-independent: the die has universal icons and there are no texts to read. The rules can be explained in Italian without problems.
