FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Point the telescope at the Moon, draw its craters, convince a Grand Inquisitor. Then go back to observing the sky.
What it's about
The Moon enters the game. And brings the Inquisitors with it.
In the 1600s, everyone believed the Moon was a perfect, smooth sphere. Then Galileo pointed his telescope skyward and discovered mountains, craters, imperfections. What he saw changed the universe. This expansion for Galileo Galilei, designed by Pink Troubadour, brings that exact moment to the table — the discovery of the real Moon, with all its wrinkles.
Four new playable astronomers, each with a unique ability. A new board dedicated to lunar observation with a completely new scoring mechanism. And then the Grand Inquisitors enter the game — powerful figures who, if convinced, offer enormous rewards, but persuasion comes at a price.
It can also be played cooperatively: together, you map the lunar surface, one crater at a time. The expansion amplifies what the base game offered — more strategic choices, more depth, more reasons to return to the table.
From the FroGames observatory
The base game was a good astronomy Eurogame. With Luna, it becomes the version the designers envisioned from the start.
The secret of Luna in one sentence
The Inquisitors change the game's pace. Ignoring them is possible — but those who convince them almost always win.
From gameplay experience
Galileo Galilei: Luna
What it adds to the base game
Four new reasons to return to the telescope
The Moon board
A lunar surface to map crater by crater. New scoring mechanism that complements — not replaces — those of the base game.
4 new astronomers
Playable historical figures, each with a unique ability that guides your strategy from the very first turn.
Grand Inquisitors
Powerful figures to convince. Persuading them costs — refusing to do so costs more. They change the pace of the game.
Promo cards included
This edition comes with additional promo cards — extra content normally only available at fairs and events.
The base game showed the sky. Luna shows what happens when observing it becomes dangerous.
📖RulebookItalian in box · EN reference online
Italian edition: the rulebook is included in Italian in the box. Below you can consult the official English rulebook, useful as an online reference.
Expansion — requires the base game
This is an expansion for Galileo Galilei (Capstone Games). The base game box is required to play. Italian edition distributed by Tesla Games, with promo cards included.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table with Moon
Not the rules. The experience of a 17th-century observatory.
Choose your astronomer, aim the telescope
The four new astronomers are in the middle of the table. Each with a different ability — one observes the Moon faster, another speaks better to the Inquisitors, another translates discoveries into points. Choose yours, and the game has already taken a direction.
The first crater on the lunar map
Someone observes first. The Moon is not smooth — the crater appears, the marker is placed on the common map. Everyone watches. Because that tile is worth points, but it unlocks others for those who come after. Do you cooperate or precede?
The Grand Inquisitor arrives
The card is flipped. An Inquisitor enters the game, demands proof, threatens retaliation. Convincing him costs precious resources. Ignoring him allows someone else to do it for you — and take the reward. Someone at the table is already calculating.
The choice that decides the game
There's a moment in every game with Moon. Actions are running out, the lunar map is almost complete, two Inquisitors are waiting for an answer. You can't do everything. Whoever chooses well this turn wins. Whoever hesitates loses four positions.
Final count — the Moon watches all
Points from planets, the Moon, persuaded Inquisitors, and objectives are tallied. The winner is the one who best wove together the different paths. But almost everyone, immediately after, says the same thing: "next time I'll start with the Moon."
How it integrates with the base game
Four additions, almost unchanged rules
Moon doesn't rewrite the manual. It adds four modules that fit into the phases you already know — each optional, each capable of changing the game.
Next to the base board, the lunar map with craters to be discovered is arranged. A second field of action where to invest observations and collect points.
In addition to the base characters, the four from Moon are added. You choose as always — but now the range of initial strategies doubles.
During the game, they appear as event cards. Each Inquisitor has specific demands and substantial rewards — they become intermediate objectives that everyone would want.
The turn flow remains that of the base game. The weight of decisions changes: each action can go to planets, the Moon, Inquisitors, or objectives. You decide where to invest.
Why it's worth the box
Six things Moon does better than the base game alone
A second map worth points
The Moon adds a parallel scoring axis. It doesn't replace that of the planets — it complements it. Two strategic engines instead of one.
Astronomers with distinct abilities
Each new character has a clear trajectory. They are not variants — they are four different ways to win the same game.
Inquisitors that create urgency
They appear, they ask, they press. These are the only cards that change the rhythm of an otherwise very planned game. They bring friction.
A touch of cooperation
Lunar mapping has a collective component — tiles discovered by one are valid for others. A small touch of coop in a competitive game.
Modular — activate as desired
You can use it all or by modules. Only Moon, only astronomers, only Inquisitors. Each combination changes the experience without disrupting it.
Promo cards in this edition
Extra content normally exclusive to events and fairs, included in this edition. It doesn't transform the game but adds variety to the setup.
How to win with Moon
More scoring paths, same final rule
You win by summing points — as in the base game. But Moon adds two new faucets. The challenge is not to maximize one: it's about balancing everything.
You win with points from
- Observed planets and constructed telescopes (from base)
- Craters mapped on the lunar surface (new)
- Grand Inquisitors persuaded during the game (new)
- Astronomer objectives activated by your ability
You lose when
- You ignore the Moon to chase only planets — you leave points on the table
- You refuse Inquisitors while others persuade them — you give away rewards
- You invest in everything and deepen nothing — you end up halfway everywhere
If you already have Galileo Galilei on your table, Moon is the expansion it was missing. New choices, more replayability, same elegant weight.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Galileo Galilei: Moon
Is it worth it if I've already played the base game ten times?
It's the right time. Moon is designed for those who have mastered the base game and are looking for new strategic variables. The Inquisitors introduce time pressure that the base game didn't have, and the lunar map adds a completely new scoring axis. If the base game has bored you, Moon brings you back to the table.
Can I use only some modules of the expansion?
Yes. Moon is modular — you can activate only the Moon, only the astronomers, only the Inquisitors, or any combination. Many groups start with only one module in the first game and add the others in subsequent ones. This approach is recommended if you play with people new to the base game.
Does it require the base game?
Yes. Galileo Galilei: Moon is an expansion — the base box of Galileo Galilei (Capstone Games) is required to play. The expansion is not playable without the base game.
What language is this edition in?
This is the Italian edition, distributed by Tesla Games: rules and cards are in Italian. The clear iconography of the game still makes everything immediate, and those who have played the base game will find the same mechanics without language barriers.
What exactly are the promo cards included?
This edition comes with promotional cards — additional content normally distributed at fairs, events, or as pre-order bonuses. These cards are compatible with the base game and with Moon, adding characters or additional variables to the game pool.
Does it also work for solo play?
Yes. The base game Galileo Galilei supports solo mode and Moon maintains compatibility. In fact, with the expansion, the solo mode gains variety — more astronomers to choose from and the lunar puzzle to complete make each solo game more different from the previous one.
