FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
You place a forest tile, your T-Rex expands, you steal a challenge from your opponent. He grumbles, you smile. Half an hour later, it's the other way around.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Territory, herds, and challenges in the Cretaceous period
Matti Bergh and Jon Manker have taken some of the mechanics of Dino Dynasty and compressed them into a standalone, fast-paced mini version. We are in the Cretaceous period, each player controls a dinosaur species. There is no fixed board: you build it yourselves, tile after tile, biome after biome.
You play cards with different biomes, move your dinosaur meeples on the emerging map, expand your herd, and try to meet variable challenges that are worth points. The map changes with each game, as do the priorities. The player who collects the most points from challenges wins.
What they say abroad
Dino Dynasty: Battle of Biomes brings territorial tension in exactly thirty minutes. Each turn is a placement choice that can overturn the balance.
— FroGames
The map grows under your fingers. Dinosaurs move. Challenges change value. And in the end, whoever best reads the territory wins.

Dino Dynasty: Battle Of Biomes
What you'll find in the box
The components of your Cretaceous period
Biome Cards
Tiles with forests, plains, mountains, and other environments. You place them, one after another, building the game map. Each biome has different characteristics that influence movement and scoring.
Dinosaur Meeples
Each player has their own wooden dinosaurs. You move them on the map, expand your herd, and try to occupy the right biomes to complete challenges.
Challenge Tokens
Variable objectives that change importance during the game. Some challenges are worth more points, others less. Understanding which ones to pursue is half the strategy.
Action Cards
They allow you to manipulate the territory, move dinosaurs, or influence active challenges. They must be played at the right time to maximize advantage.
In half an hour, you will have built a unique Cretaceous, moved herds, stolen challenges. And you'll immediately want to do it differently.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
First biomes, first moves
You place the first biome card, you put your dinosaur on it. The others do the same. The map is still small, but you already understand where you want to go. The initial challenges are visible: one is worth a forest, another a plain.
The map expands
Each turn someone adds a tile. The map grows in unpredictable directions. Your pack expands, but so do the others. You start to see territorial conflicts emerging.
Challenges change in weight
Mid-game, some challenges are worth double, others disappear. You need to re-evaluate priorities. Maybe you were aiming for a challenge that is now worth little. Do you change course or persist?
The moment of the key choice
You have a perfect biome card. Do you play it and complete a major challenge, or do you block an opponent who is about to do the same? Choose. The table holds its breath.
Final count
The map is complete, the dinosaurs are still. Challenge tokens collected are counted. The winner is the one who best read the territory and played the right cards. Tight margins, always.
How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn is quick: place, move, collect. Then it's the next player's turn.
Choose a card from your hand and place it on the map, matching its edges with the tiles already present. You create new spaces, new movement possibilities.
You move one or more dinosaur meeples on the map. You can expand your pack into new biomes or focus on strategic areas related to active challenges.
If you have met the requirements of a visible challenge, take the corresponding token. Some challenges require presence in specific biomes, others numerical majority or particular configurations.
You replenish your hand by drawing a new Biome card (if necessary) and the turn passes to the next player. The map continues to grow, challenges continue to change value.
Why it's different from others
Six mechanics that make the difference
Player-built map
There is no fixed board. Every game the map is completely different, built tile by tile by the players themselves. This makes each session unique and unpredictable. Geography influences strategies.
Variable value challenges
Not all challenges are worth the same. During the game, some increase in importance, others decrease. You must adapt in real time; you can't fixate on one goal from start to finish.
Pack management
Expand your group of dinosaurs across the territory. Each well-placed meeple can help you complete multiple challenges simultaneously. Density and distribution count as much as the absolute number.
Fast turns
No downtime. Place, move, collect. Thirty seconds per turn, maximum. The game flows, no one gets bored. Perfect for keeping all players engaged.
Indirect but constant interaction
You don't attack directly, but every card you place modifies the possibilities of others. You can close paths, make key biomes unreachable, steal challenges by completing them before others.
Depth without complexity
Rules in ten minutes, but choices are dense. Easy to teach, hard to master. Each game teaches you something about positioning and timing. The learning curve is gentle but rewarding.
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The game ends when the map reaches a certain size or when the challenge tokens run out.
Victory
- Collect the most points from challenge tokens completed during the game
- Optimize positioning and movement to satisfy multiple challenges simultaneously
- Read the variable value of challenges and invest at the right moments
How to lose ground
- You fixate on a challenge that loses value and ignore those that gain it
- You place tiles without thinking about how they close off options for your pack
- Opponents complete major challenges before you because you dispersed your dinosaurs
Dino Dynasty: Battle of Biomes is about territory, timing, and adaptation in exactly thirty minutes. Every map is new, every game is different.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Dino Dynasty: Battle Of Biomes
Is it suitable for those who don't know standard Dino Dynasty?
Absolutely. Battle of Biomes is a standalone game; you don't need to have played the main edition. It uses some similar mechanics but in a more compact and accessible version. You can start directly with this one.
How important is luck in drawing cards?
There is a random element in drawing biome tiles, but how you place them matters more than what you draw. An experienced player knows how to use even seemingly disadvantageous cards to block opponents or create useful configurations. Strategy compensates.
Does it work well with two players?
Yes, the tactical tension remains high. With two players, the map grows more slowly but territorial control is even tighter. Every move weighs more heavily. With three or four players, chaos and unpredictability increase, and both configurations work well.
Do games really last thirty minutes?
Yes, once you know the rules. The first game might extend to 40-45 minutes due to explanations, but from the second game onwards, thirty minutes is the norm. Turns are quick, the game flows smoothly.
Is it available in Italian?
Check the language of the specific edition for sale on FroGames. Components are typically language-independent (symbol cards, meeples), but always check the product description for confirmation regarding the manual and materials.
