The FroGames Card
You place the pink sofa next to the palm tree, adopt the orange cat with two cookies, and invite the customer with the purple sweater. She smiles, gives you three coins and one point. Someone at the table is already placing their fourth cat. You look at your half-empty grid and realize you messed up everything on turn two.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A tile and cat puzzle where every choice costs cookies or coins
Cozy Cat Cafe is the editorial debut of Sam and Shahin Rostami for Polyra Limited, launched on Kickstarter in summer 2025 and expected in October 2026. A tile placement game that blends pattern recognition and resource management within a framework of adorable kittens and cafes to furnish. Sam Rostami also illustrates all the artwork.
On your turn, you choose only one action: adopt a cat (paying cookies), buy furniture (paying coins), invite a customer to your cafe, or take a resource. Tiles must be placed immediately, with no possibility of rotating or moving them later. Customers request specific combinations (a cat next to a piece of furniture), and fulfilling their requests earns you points and resources. The player with the most points after three rounds of nine turns each wins.

This is an initial review based on previews and project data. The game has just come out of Kickstarter, and a full review will follow with retail copies. What emerges is clear: fixed tile placement, no rotations, tight chain decisions. It promises a silent tension masked by cozy aesthetics.

Cozy Cat Cafe
The game uses a Botlet deck that simulates an opponent by drawing action cards. Setup and gameplay are similar to the two-player game. We haven't yet tested how well the tension holds up against a deck instead of a person, but the structure is promising.
The ingredients for your café
What you bring to the table to build the perfect ambiance
Cat Cards
Each cat is a polyomino tile with special abilities. You adopt them by paying cookies and immediately place them in your 6×6 grid. Some activate combos, others give resources. The lazy orange cat is worth gold if you put it next to the window.
Furniture
Sofas, coffee tables, plants, bookshelves. You buy them with coins and they occupy spaces in the grid. Customers ask for cats near specific furniture: you fulfill the request, get points and resources.
Customer Cards
Rows of waiting customers. Each shows a combination (e.g., 'white cat next to a red armchair'). The first to fulfill the request invites the customer, gets points, and a reward. Big spenders are worth double.
Objectives
16 different objective tiles each game. Bonuses for specific patterns: three cats in a row, four pieces of furniture in the corners, maximum ambiance in an area. Whoever sees them first wins.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each turn
Only one action per turn. Choose wisely, because what you place now determines what you can do next.
Adopt a cat (pay cookies), buy furniture (pay coins), invite a customer to your cafe (if you have the required combo), or take a coin or a cookie from the supply. Only one thing per turn, no exceptions.
If you adopted a cat or bought furniture, you place it immediately in your 6x6 grid. Fixed orientation (no rotations), no subsequent movement. That tile stays there forever.
Check if the placement meets the requirements of any customers in line. If so, invite them and gain points + resources. Some cats have abilities that activate upon placement or when they are near certain furniture.
The next player acts. After nine turns, the round ends. After three rounds, points are counted: customers, objectives, total ambience. The player with the most points wins.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Empty grid, scarce resources
You start with a completely blank 6x6 board, two cookies, two coins. You look at the available cats and think 'they're all cute anyway'. Mistake number one: they are not all the same, and in two turns you'll understand why that purple cat with the special ability was worth three cookies.
The first customer arrives (and someone steals them)
A customer card appears worth 8 points: they want a black cat next to a lamp. You have neither. Your opponent has both. They take the customer, smile, accumulate resources. You wonder if you messed up the setup.
The grid fills up, space runs out
You're halfway through the second round. You've placed six tiles and realize that every new piece of furniture closes off two future possibilities. You'd like to move the pink sofa one square, but you can't. The tiles are permanent. You start to sweat.
The perfect combo (or almost)
You activate the gray cat's ability, which gives you an extra cookie. With that cookie, you adopt the tabby cat, place it next to the bookshelf, and unlock two customers at once. Everyone at the table looks at you. For thirty seconds, you're a cafe management genius.
Score counting and regrets
End of the third round. You count the points: satisfied customers, completed objectives, total ambience. Someone wins by three points. You look at your grid and see exactly the move in turn seven that cost you the victory. You immediately suggest a rematch.
🐸What to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to know beforehand
Three things you need to know before buying it
Tiles are permanent
Once a cat or furniture tile is placed, you cannot move it again. No rotations, no adjustments. Every move closes off future spaces and possibilities. If you make a mistake in turn three, you pay for it until the end of the game. This is not a game where you can correct on the fly.
Can be prolonged by analysis paralysis
A slow player can hold up the table for minutes at a time evaluating every possible placement. Games listed as 30-90 minutes tend towards 90 with four or five players. If you play with perfectionists, prepare snacks.
Low interaction, very parallel
You don't attack opponents, you don't destroy their plans. Interaction is only indirect: you take the customer they needed or adopt the cat they wanted. Otherwise, everyone builds their cafe in silence. If you're looking for direct confrontation, look elsewhere.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win
After three rounds, all points are tallied. The player with the most points wins. Simple on paper, tense at the table.
Victory points
- Customers invited to your cafe (the more demanding they are, the more they're worth)
- Completed objectives (specific patterns in the grid, bonuses for maximum ambience)
- Points from the cats and furniture themselves (some give fixed points at the end of the game)
Fatal errors
- Placing tiles without planning future spaces (the grid quickly saturates)
- Ignoring high-value customers and focusing only on easy ones
- Running out of resources mid-game with no way to get more
It's a puzzle disguised as a cozy game. The first few games seem relaxed, then you realize how much every tile counts and you stop breathing. Perfect if you like spatial puzzles disguised as kittens.

FAQ about Cozy Cat Cafe
Can cat and furniture tiles be rotated during placement?
No. Fixed orientation, no rotations, no flips. This is at the heart of the difficulty: you need to plan ahead knowing that particular shape will occupy those exact spaces forever. If you misplace it, you can't correct it.
What mechanics does Cozy Cat Cafe use?
Tile placement (polyomino tile placement), pattern recognition (pattern recognition to satisfy customers), command cards (cat ability cards), chaining (chain combos for multiple bonuses), square grid (fixed square grid), resource management (cookies and coins). Weight 2.5/5 on BGG.
How does the solo mode work?
It uses an automa deck called Botlet that draws action cards and simulates an opponent. Setup and rules are similar to two-player, but the automa follows deterministic behavior from the cards. We haven't yet tested how competitive it is against the deck, but the structure is there.
Is it suitable for children under 10?
The recommended age is 10+. The mechanics are simple (choose an action, place a tile), but long-term spatial planning requires abstraction and the ability to foresee consequences. Under 10, it risks being frustrating or turning into random placements.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. The texts on the cards are limited (cat names, customer requests, abilities) and quite accessible even for those with school-level English. There are no verifiable official or fan-made Italian translations at the moment.
