The FroGames Board
You arrive at dawn on a volcanic island. Your team unloads the equipment, you open your notebook: three days to document never-before-seen species before the ship departs.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
Scientific expeditions through volcanoes, rainforests, and lagoons of the Caribbean
Caribe brings the golden age of 19th-century scientific exploration to the table. Designed by Orlando Sá (author of Pessoa and Porto) and illustrated by Lukas Siegmon, the game is published by PYTHAGORAS, a Portuguese publisher specializing in educational and strategic titles.
You lead an expedition in the Lesser Antilles: you organize teams of scientists and explorers, collect observations on rare species (flamingos, sea turtles, dolphins), develop theories, and compete to become the most renowned naturalist of the era. A modular board reconfigures the scenarios (volcanic craters, beaches, forests) in each game, while multi-use cards offer tactical decisions every turn.

Caribe presents itself as a thematic exploration with modular mechanics. This board is based on initial materials: we will delve deeper once we have played.

The game officially supports solo play (1-4 players). With no published details on the automaton's functioning or dedicated scenarios, we estimate a valid experience but one to be verified upon publication.
The expedition tools
What you bring to the Antilles
Volcanic craters
Areas of high challenge and reward. Explore rugged terrain in search of rare geological phenomena and discoveries worth prestige points.
Maritime expeditions
Organize boat trips to observe flamingos in lagoons, sea turtles on remote beaches, dolphins in the open sea. Each sighting enriches your journal.
Scientific theories
Every discovery allows you to develop new theories, publish studies, and solidify your academic reputation. Knowledge is the true goal.
Modular board
Each game reconfigures the landscape of the Antilles: beaches, rainforests, mountains. Adapt your strategy to the geography you find.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each turn alternates between planning and execution: choose where to go, what to observe, when to publish.
Choose a card from your hand and decide its use: team movement, observation gathering, or special ability activation. Multipurpose cards offer tactical flexibility.
Move your scientists on the modular board. Each zone (craters, forests, lagoons) offers different species and phenomena. Some sites require multiple turns to complete.
Document sighted species and geological phenomena. Each observation contributes to your scientific theories. Plan complementary sets of discoveries to maximize points.
When you have gathered enough data, you publish a theory and gain prestige. Timing is everything: publishing too early leaves points on the table, waiting too long risks being preempted.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Landing and initial explorations
Choose where to send your scientists. Craters? Forests? Beaches? Each team has limited resources and each island hides different opportunities. Whoever moves first gets the best sites.
Sightings and observations
You start documenting: a pink flamingo in the lagoon, turtle tracks on the sand. Every discovery brings you closer to a publishable theory. Other players move towards their areas.
Competition for discoveries
You realize another naturalist is exploring the same crater. Who gets to the rarest species first? Multipurpose cards become decisive: do you use them to move or to consolidate research?
Development of theories
You have enough observations to publish. But do you wait for a key piece of data or go to print immediately? The other naturalists are already on their way back with their full notebooks.
The verdict of the scientific community
The expedition ends. You count the discoveries, published theories, documented phenomena. Whoever has built the most solid reputation wins academic recognition. Someone will retrace the route.

Newly announced game
Caribe is scheduled for 2026 and has not yet been reviewed. The available information comes from the official BGG description. This page will be updated when we have concrete gameplay data.
Mechanics to be verified
Modular board and multipurpose cards are promising, but we do not yet know how deep the decision tree is, how much luck plays a role in card drawing, or how tight the multiplayer is.
Educational and niche theme
19th-century scientific exploration is a fascinating but specific theme. If you're looking for direct interaction or conflict, this is not the game. If you love naturalistic themes and discovery, it might be perfect.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win
The game ends when all players have completed their expeditions or when resources are exhausted.
Victory
- You publish the most prestigious scientific theories
- You accumulate the most rare and complete observations
- You achieve discovery goals before other naturalists
Defeat
- You focus on too many areas without completing solid theories
- Opponents preempt you in key discoveries
- You waste resources on unprofitable explorations
Caribe promises to bring the scientific curiosity and exploratory adventure of the nineteenth century to the table. We hope it delivers. Updates coming soon.

FAQ about Caribe
What mechanics does Caribe use?
Caribe uses a modular board (each game has a different geography) and multipurpose cards (you decide how to use them). The exact turn structure and scoring system have not yet been published.
Is it suitable for people unfamiliar with board games?
The recommended age is 10+ and the publisher PYTHAGORAS is known for accessible and educational titles. Based on this, Caribe should be a good gateway game. We will confirm once we have played it.
How long does a game last?
Between 50 and 100 minutes, depending on the number of players and the modular board configuration. The wide range suggests that with 1-2 players, it stays under an hour, with 3-4 players, it approaches an hour and a half.
Does the solo mode work well?
The game officially supports 1-4 players, so solo play is intended. We don't yet have details on how it is implemented (automaton? dedicated scenarios?). We will update as soon as available.
Is it available in Italian?
The edition sold on FroGames is in English. Currently, no Italian localizations have been announced. The game uses text on cards and in the rulebook, so knowledge of English is necessary.
