The FroGames Card
Everyone watches the bag. Some bet on three bugs, some on five. Then the first red beetle comes out and panic sets in: you change tokens, take a risk, pray that the wrong color doesn't appear.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A real-time party game where the bag decides and you bet
Bag of Bugs is a real-time party game published by Horrible Guild in 2026. The Milanese company, known for Similo, Potion Explosion, and Railroad Ink, focuses here on the push-your-luck formula applied to simultaneous drawing from a bag.
One player draws colored bugs one at a time, while all others simultaneously choose a Grab token that declares how many bugs they want to take at the end of the draw. The goal is to create the best collection without busting: get the right number, win the round. Take too many or too few, you're out.
What they're saying abroad
"Bag of Bugs is a real-time party game where players try to collect the best set of colored bugs without busting."
— Horrible Guild
It's 2026, Bag of Bugs has just been released, and international reviews are not yet available. What we know: Horrible Guild has built a career on accessible fillers, and this real-time drawing mechanic promises immediate tension. First read, August 2026.

Bag of Bugs
What's in the bag
The components that make the game
Colored bugs
Wooden or plastic tokens in four or five colors. They are the currency of the game: each color is worth different points, and certain sets are worth bonuses.
Grab Tokens
Each player has a set (1, 2, 3, 4, 5...). You choose them in real time as the draw progresses: the number on the token is how many bugs you will take at the end of the round.
The bag
All the bugs are inside. One person draws, the others watch. The tension builds with each draw: does your color come out or not?
Score cards
They indicate which sets of bugs are worth the most at the end of the game. They change the strategy: sometimes you want all red, sometimes a balanced mix.

How to play
The flow of each round
Each round is a draw from the bag. You choose how many bugs to take, the bag decides which ones come out.
All bugs go into the bag. Each player takes their Grab tokens and places them in front of them. One player is chosen as the drawer: they draw bugs one at a time and place them in plain sight for everyone.
The drawer draws bugs at a steady pace. As they draw, everyone else simultaneously chooses a Grab token (how many bugs they want to take). You can change tokens until the drawing ends.
When the drawer stops (or the bag is empty), everyone reveals their token. Whoever chose the right number takes that number of bugs from the draw and puts them in their collection. Those who overshot or undershot take fewer or none.
At the end of the game (after 4-5 rounds), points are counted: certain colors are worth more, certain sets give bonuses. Whoever has the most valuable collection wins.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The first bug is drawn
Someone draws from the bag and everyone watches. A red one comes out. Everyone grabs a low token (1 or 2), no one wants to risk it on the first turn. The table is silent, everyone awaits the second draw.
Three different colors come out
Red, blue, green. Some keep token 3, some change it to 4. Those who want to bet on the mixed set raise, those who bet on a single color lower. The tension rises: how many more bugs will come out?
Someone bets on 5
Seven bugs come out and one player raises their token to 5. The others look at them: did they see something we didn't? Some follow suit, some remain cautious. The bag says nothing, it continues to empty.
The drawing ends
Last bug drawn: a yellow one that no one wanted. Those who bet on 6 bugs rejoice, those who stayed at 3 curse. Points are counted: whoever guessed the right number gets the best collection.
End of round, new draw
The bugs are put back in the bag, shuffled, and a new round begins. Someone won the round, someone was off by one. After four or five rounds, total points are counted and there is a winner. But no one talks about who won.

What to know beforehand
Three things to consider
Luck decides half the game
You can read the probabilities, count the bugs, do the math. But if the bag decides to pull out six reds in a row, whoever bet on blue loses. The game is honest about this: it's a party game, not an eurogame.
Real-time crushes slow players
Those who are quick to read the draw and change tokens have an advantage. Those who overthink fall behind. If you play with people of very different speeds (small children vs competitive adults), one of the two will get bored.
Replayability has a limit
After ten games, the mechanic is always the same: draw, choose, count. The scoring cards vary the winning sets, but not enough to make every game unpredictable. It works as a filler or aperitif, not as the main course of the evening.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each round assigns bugs. At the end of the game, points are counted: the most valuable collection wins.
Victory
- You built the set of colors that was worth the most points according to the scoring cards.
- You guessed the correct number of bugs in the decisive rounds and took the best pieces.
- You balanced luck and calculation: you knew when to risk and when to play it safe.
Defeat
- You guessed the number of bugs incorrectly too often: your token was too high or too low, and you were left empty-handed.
- The bag drew the wrong colors at the wrong times and your strategy collapsed.
- You thought too slowly: others changed tokens while you were counting, and you missed your chances.
Bag of Bugs doesn't revolutionize the party game, but the mechanics are clean and the pace works. If you're looking for 15 minutes of colorful chaos with no downtime, it does its job.

FAQ about Bag of Bugs
How many games does it take before it becomes repetitive?
It depends on how much you play filler games. If you use it as an aperitif for an evening once a month, it holds up. If you play it three times in a row on the same evening, by the third time you'll have figured everything out. The scoring cards vary the winning sets, but the mechanics remain identical.
Does it work well with 3 players or do you need a full table?
It works best with 4-5 players. With 3, the chaos decreases, real-time loses tension and becomes more predictable. The game thrives on simultaneous interaction: the more players, the more the bag becomes a stage.
What mechanics does Bag of Bugs use?
It's a mix of open drafting (everyone draws from the same source), push-your-luck (you choose how many bugs to take and risk overshooting), and set collection (you build collections of colors to score points). Real-time is the twist that differentiates the game from classics of the genre.
Is it suitable for 8-year-olds?
Yes, the rules are immediate and the pace keeps attention. Slower children in changing tokens may feel disadvantaged against fast adults, but if the table is age-homogeneous, the game works well. No reading required, just numbers and colors.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. The game is language-independent: the components are colored bugs, numbered tokens, and cards with icons. The only thing written is the rulebook, which once read is no longer needed at the table.
