The Deluxe Upgrade Kit for Legends of the Seas replaces the cardboard components of the base game with miniatures and more substantial materials: four characters of about 6.4 cm with their name on the base, cannons, barrels, protection runes, six thick enemy tiles instead of cards, and a ship to assemble.
The cleverest part is the cannons. In the game, you switch from gunpowder to runes, and here that transition becomes physical: the cannon miniatures fit onto interchangeable bases, so when your defense improves, you see it happen on the table instead of flipping a card.
Legends of the Seas is a hybrid cooperative game by Arkada Studio — the same as Erune — for 1-4 players, ages 8 and up, with half-hour games amidst stormy seas, pirates, and Kraken attacks. This kit doesn't change it: it dresses it up.

Four things that change the table

Four characters of 6.4 cm
Enki, Horo, Gali, and Ulma, with their name engraved on the base. They are the tallest in the kit and the first ones players grab when sitting at the table.

What happens on the table
Not the rules. The experience.
First, you assemble the ship
The largest piece comes out last and needs to be assembled. It takes ten minutes for two of you, and when it's standing in the center of the table, the game hasn't even started, but the evening has. Kids under ten won't wait for permission to touch it.
Everyone takes their turn
Enki, Horo, Gali, Ulma. Four six-centimeter miniatures with names on their bases: no one has to ask who's who, and no one ends up with a cardboard token because they were last to choose.
Barrels pass and someone loses them
Sixteen barrels scattered across the sea, to be retrieved before they drift away. As cardboard tokens, they were markers to move; here, they are objects you grasp — and the difference is felt precisely when one slips through your fingers.
You move to the runes, and change the cannon
Defense improves: you slide the gunpowder cannon off the base and put on the runic one. This is the only moment the kit does something cardboard couldn't do — the upgrade stops being information and becomes an action.
Half an hour later, you do it again
The game lasts thirty minutes, so no one wants to get up yet. Everything is put back in position — the ship stays assembled — and you start again. It's the kind of box that stays on the table all afternoon.
