FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Red versus white. It's the clash that closes the Universal Century, and now it occupies two hexes on your map.
What it's about
Amuro vs. Char, and the first machines that don't fit in one hex
Gundam Assemble Expansion Pack 08 is dedicated to Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and brings into play the two mobile suits that close the Universal Century story: Char Aznable's MSN-04 Sazabi and Amuro Ray's RX-93 ν Gundam. Unpainted miniatures of about 50 mm, with dedicated unit cards and tactic cards.
The novelty is not just the roster. Bandai presents these two machines as large, two-hex units: a more cumbersome class of unit that had never appeared in Gundam Assemble before. They take up more space on the map, move differently, and change the calculation of every line of fire.
There are three miniatures in the box. You know two of them — the third, at the time of writing, Bandai has not yet announced: it appears as a placeholder with a question mark in the official artwork. Gundam Assemble has just added a heavyweight category, and the surprise is part of the package.
Two hexes instead of one: the first time a Gundam Assemble machine is too big to hide.
The secret of EX08 in one line
The game begins before the game. An afternoon of cutting and painting, and that miniature on the table is yours in a way no other will ever be.

Gundam Assemble — EX08
Your arsenal
What enters your roster
Two legendary machines, one still covered, and an afternoon of work with a hobby knife.
MSN-04 Sazabi
Char Aznable's personal machine: solid red, huge shoulders, beam shot rifle. In the game, it's one of the first large, two-hex units.
RX-93 ν Gundam
Amuro Ray's last machine, designed by himself. White and blue, fin funnel on the back, shield as wide as the torso. It also occupies two hexes.
A third unit
The box contains three miniatures, but Bandai has only announced two: in the official artwork, the third still appears as a placeholder.
An afternoon of hobby
The miniatures are unpainted plastic, to be detached and assembled like a scaled-down Gunpla. Paints and glue are not included.
Red and white facing each other, on a map that suddenly seems small. Certain rivalries work even at five centimeters.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
You place the Sazabi and occupy two squares
You take it out of the transport box and place it on the map. It covers two hexes. You look at the rest of your team and realize that last night's plan no longer works: that machine cannot pass where the others did.
The Timeline decides who moves first
There is no fixed turn order. Tokens are on the track, and whoever is furthest back activates. You send the ν Gundam forward to get a good angle, and its token slides forward — you've just given your opponent two activations. Is that what you wanted?
First exchange, and the card you didn't expect
You declare the target, collect the attack dice, roll them. Before you count the successes, your opponent plays a Tactic Card and changes the count. That's when you realize you don't win this game with dice: you win it by knowing what they still have in hand.
A large machine doesn't hide
You realize that advantage comes at a price. On two hexes, you're a threat, but you're also always in the line of fire somewhere. You start moving with cover in mind instead of the target — and the rest of the team suddenly becomes useful.
Red against white, as it had to end
Last exchange, structure at zero, one of the two leaves the table. Which one depends on how you played — and neither of you expected to get there. You pick it up, check that nothing is chipped, and you're already making a new list.
How to play
The flow of each activation
Gundam Assemble is a two-team skirmish: single activations alternate until the scenario ends. Here's what a unit does when it's its turn.
Each unit has a token on the Timeline track, positioned according to its initial value on its card. The unit in the lowest round acts — there is no fixed turn order.
The unit moves on the map using terrain and cover. With large two-hex units, the calculation changes: two free squares are needed, which limits the narrow passages that other machines use without thinking.
The target is declared, and the attack is resolved by rolling dice. The Tactic Cards of each unit come into play here: abilities, bonuses, and status effects that translate what that mobile suit can do into the game.
There are objectives on the map: you control them if you have more allied units than enemy units around. Victory points come from there and from downed enemy units — not from the passing of time.
Why it's worth adding
Six things EX08 brings to your roster
The first class of large units
Sazabi and ν Gundam arrive as two-hex units: a weight class that didn't exist in Gundam Assemble. It's not a stronger unit, it's a unit that plays with different space rules.
MSN-04 Sazabi
Solid red, enormous shoulders, beam shot rifle. Char Aznable's personal machine is probably the most recognizable mobile suit in the entire franchise after the RX-78-2.
RX-93 ν Gundam
White and blue, wide shield, fin funnel on the back. Amuro Ray's last machine, designed by himself — and the only possible answer to the Sazabi.
The rivalry that ends everything
Char's Counterattack is the culmination of fifteen years of history. Bringing it to the table means playing a battle that fans know by heart — with the possibility of making it end differently.
A third unit still under wraps
The box contains three miniatures, but Bandai has announced two: in the official artwork, the third is still a placeholder. Those who pre-order do so knowing that part of the content will be revealed upon opening.
Miniatures that become yours
Approximately 50 mm, unpainted plastic, Gunpla-style assembly. Bandai sells this as part of the product, not a defect: your livery is unique at the table.
How it ends
You win on points, you lose on structure
In most scenarios, you don't need to wipe out the opponent: you need to have more victory points than them when it ends. This makes every pursuit a questionable choice — especially with a machine that occupies two squares.
Victory
- Gain victory points by taking down enemy units
- Gain more by completing scenario objectives
- Control an objective by having more allied units than enemy units around it
- In most scenarios, the player with the most victory points at the end wins
Unit destroyed
- A unit reduced to zero structure points is removed from the map
- The opponent collects the victory points indicated on its unit card
- Its Timeline token advances two spaces
- It does not return to play: you play the rest with the remaining units
If you already have a Starter Set on the table, EX08 is the pack that changes how the map is occupied. Bring Sazabi and ν Gundam to your roster on FroGames.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Gundam Assemble EX08
Can I play with just Expansion Pack 08?
No, and we prefer to tell you upfront. EX08 is an expansion: it contains units, cards, but not the rulebook, map, dice, and game tokens. You need a Gundam Assemble Starter Set or Deluxe Set to play.
What is the third miniature? Bandai hasn't announced it
Exactly, and we don't want to pretend to know. The box contains three miniatures, but so far Bandai has only announced Sazabi and ν Gundam: in the official artwork, the third appears as a placeholder with a question mark. We will update this page as soon as the announcement arrives.
Are the miniatures already assembled and painted?
No. They come on unpainted plastic sprues, to be detached and assembled like a small-scale Gunpla (approx. 50 mm). Glues, paints, and tools are not included. For Bandai, this is part of the experience — if you are looking for ready-to-use miniatures, this is not the right product for you.
What changes with two-hex units?
They are the first class of large units in Gundam Assemble: they occupy two squares instead of one. This changes movement through narrow passages, exposure to lines of fire, and how you contest objectives. Exact values are on the included unit cards.
Does it make sense if I haven't seen Char's Counterattack?
Yes. The units function based on what they do on the table, not on the narrative context: statistics, range, and tactics are read on the card. Those who know the movie also get the pleasure of replaying that battle — but it is not a requirement.
Is it available in Italian?
No, this is the English edition: unit cards and tactic cards are in English. The game text is brief and schematic, but keep this in mind if you are playing with someone who is not proficient in English.
Gundam Assemble Expansion Pack 08 [EX08] is the expansion for Gundam Assemble, Bandai Namco's miniature battle game that brings approximately 50 mm Gunpla to the table. Inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, it introduces the MSN-04 Sazabi and RX-93 ν Gundam (Nu Gundam) as the first large two-hex units, a new unit class for the game. It contains three unpainted miniatures with unit cards, tactic cards, and game token. Competitive game for 2 players, duration approximately 40 minutes, age 15+, map movement mechanics with dice roll attack resolution, Timeline track for activation order, and victory points from objectives and downed units. Miniatures to assemble and customize. Requires a Gundam Assemble Starter Set or Deluxe Set to play. English edition. Available on FroGames.it.
