FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
There are normal monsters. And then there's the fourteen-centimeter thing someone pulls out of the box without saying anything.
What it's about
There are monsters. And then there are dragons.
Erune — The Dragon Hunt is the expansion that brings a dragon to Arkada Studio's cooperative dungeon crawler. Three quests dedicated to a single creature: hunting it, confronting it, and — perhaps — taking it down. It's not just a monster with more hit points: it has its own game system, made of spell cards, special abilities, and behavior different from any other creature in Erune.
The miniature is the largest ever made for the game: 14 cm tall and 9 cm wide. When you place it on the board, the table changes scale — and the first reaction at the table is always the same.
Erune is a unique dungeon crawler: the narration comes from a voice app that acts as the Spirit of Erune, tells events, interprets characters, and answers rules questions as you play. Designed by Quentin Deleau and Adrien Smondack, for 1 to 5 players — solo play is supported.
It's not a stronger monster: it's an opponent with its own rules. What you've learned about other enemies is of little use here.
The secret of The Dragon Hunt in one line
The app speaks, you respond, the dragon moves. That's what makes Erune different — and what decides if it's for you or not.
From the game experience
Erune — The Dragon Hunt
What's in the box
An opponent, not just more content
Four things to know before adding it to your cart — including the one that might make you change your mind.
The largest Erune miniature
14 cm tall and 9 cm wide, wings spread and tail wrapped around the rock. It's the piece you decide to leave out of the box after the game.
Its own game system
Spell cards, special abilities, and behavior that doesn't follow the rules of other monsters. It needs to be studied, not just hit.
Three dedicated quests
Hunt, confront, and perhaps take down. Three missions built around a single creature, not three dungeons where it randomly appears.
Core box and smartphone required
Requires the Erune — Adventure core box and the app that acts as a vocal narrator. These are two real requirements, not two suggestions.
Then someone places it on the board, and for two seconds, no one says anything. It is precisely for those two seconds that boxes like this exist.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The miniature stays in the box. For now.
You open the expansion and the first thing you do is take out the dragon just to look at it. Then you put it back, because the first quest is a hunt: the dragon isn't on the board yet, and this is already a design choice that tells you everything.
The app speaks and you look at each other
The Spirit of Erune tells you where you are, what you see, and what just went wrong. No one reads a paragraph aloud: the voice comes from the phone in the middle of the table, and for once you're all on the same side of the screen.
Then you place it on the board
Fourteen centimeters placed among the tiles. The Adventurers' miniatures, which seemed big a minute ago, now look like what they are. Someone moves their drink to make space. No one comments because there's no need.
The rules you knew aren't enough
The dragon doesn't behave like other monsters: it has its own cards, its own abilities, a way of acting that you have to learn while it's already upon you. You use the first game to understand how it works. The second to seriously try.
Maybe you take it down. Maybe not.
The three quests lead to an ending that isn't guaranteed: you can hunt a dragon, confront it, and still return empty-handed. When it does fall, it takes a second to realize it — and then hands go on the table.
How to play
The flow of a quest
Erune is a cooperative dungeon crawler guided by a voice app. Here's how a session unfolds, and where the expansion fits in.
The smartphone in the center of the table opens the mission. The Spirit of Erune acts as narrator: it introduces the situation, interprets the characters you meet, and tells you what to prepare.
Each player controls an Adventurer and moves on the board, discovering tiles, treasures, and traps that the app reveals as you go. From 1 to 5 players: in solo play, you manage multiple characters.
This is where the expansion comes in. The dragon doesn't use the rules of ordinary monsters: it has spell cards, special abilities, and its own behavior, which must be anticipated rather than simply endured.
If during the game you don't remember how an item or rule works, you ask the Spirit of Erune and it answers. This is why the game flows without stopping to flip through the manual.
Why it's worth adding
Six things that make The Dragon Hunt different
Fourteen centimeters
The largest miniature ever made for Erune: 14 cm tall by 9 cm wide, wings spread and tail wrapped around the rock. A scenic presence visible from across the room.
It's not a monster with more health
The dragon has its own game system: spell cards, special abilities, and behavior different from any other creature in the game. It must be studied as an opponent, not managed as an obstacle.
Three quests in three acts
Hunting, confronting, perhaps slaying. The three missions tell a precise arc instead of being three disconnected dungeons where you might happen to encounter it.
The app that narrates
The Spirit of Erune acts as a vocal narrator: it describes, interprets characters, reveals treasures and traps, and answers questions about the rules. No one is left out acting as GM.
Also works solo
Erune supports 1 to 5 players. A boss with its own rules and a vocal narrator are exactly what's needed so that a solo game doesn't feel like a compromise.
Bilingual edition
The US/FR box includes materials in English and French. There is no Italian — but if you play in one of the two languages, you have both versions of the cards in the same box.
How it ends
You win together, you lose together
Erune is cooperative: there's no player rooting for the dragon. Each quest has its own objectives, which the app communicates to you at the start of the mission — and not all three end in the same way.
Victory
- Complete the objectives assigned to you by the quest
- In the first phase, it's about finding the dragon, not fighting it
- In the last, about surviving long enough to take it down
- The exact conditions are communicated by the app at the start of each mission
Defeat
- The Adventurers cannot withstand the creature's impact
- Or the quest ends without the objective being achieved
- The dragon has cards and abilities that other monsters don't: you lose differently
- You can replay the quest knowing what to expect — and that's usually when it works
If you already have the Erune base game and want to give your team something they don't yet know how to beat, The Dragon Hunt is that thing. Find it on FroGames.
Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Erune — The Dragon Hunt
Can I play it without the base game?
No, and we prefer to tell you upfront. The Dragon Hunt is an expansion: it requires the Erune — Adventure base game, from which the rulebook, board, Adventurers, and the rest of the system come. This box cannot be played on its own.
Do I really need a smartphone?
Yes, and that's the most important thing to know about Erune. The entire game is built around a voice app that acts as a narrator, manages events, and answers questions about the rules. Without a smartphone compatible with the installed app, you cannot play — it's not an optional add-on, it's the engine of the system. If you prefer fully analog games, this is not for you.
Is the dragon miniature already painted?
No. It's in single-color plastic, like the other Erune miniatures: ready to use but not painted. Given its 14 cm height and level of detail, it's one of the most rewarding pieces to paint if you want to try.
How much content does it actually add?
Three dragon-themed quests, the miniature, and the card set that defines its spells and abilities. It's an expansion focused on a single opponent, not a campaign expansion: if you're looking for dozens of hours of new gameplay, this isn't the right box. If you're looking for a boss that changes how your team approaches combat, yes.
Is the dragon different from other monsters, or just stronger?
It's different. The publisher describes it as having its own game system — spell cards, special abilities, and behavior that doesn't follow the rules of other creatures. In practice, the tactics that work against normal monsters need to be revisited here.
Is it available in Italian?
No. This is the US/FR edition: the materials are in English and French, both languages included in the same box. The app also needs to be used in a supported language. If someone at your table isn't comfortable with either, keep that in mind before ordering.
