The FroGames Card
Choose a design, take colored tiles from the bowls, complete your mosaic. The first one to finish wins. Even when you're five, building something of your own matters.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
The world of Azul opens its doors to the little ones
Michael Kiesling brings his most famous drafting mechanic back in a version designed for those who have just started playing: Azul Kids is the entry point to the Azul family for children aged 5 and up, published by Next Move Games in August 2026.
Each player chooses a design to complete, draws colored tiles from the central bowls, and arranges them on their board. The first one to finish the mosaic wins: the structure is immediate, the choices are simple but tactically relevant, and the game lasts just long enough to keep even the youngest players engaged.

— Next Move Games
First reading. The game will be released in August 2026 and there is still very little BGG data: this sheet is based on the official information from the publisher and the declared mechanics. We will update with more detailed impressions as soon as the game is in our hands.

Azul Kids
Inside the box
A portable workshop
120 mosaic tiles
Colorful, large enough for small hands, you draw from the bowls like in classic Azul but without complex penalties.
6 mosaic boards
Different designs to complete: each child chooses their own and fills the spaces with tiles. First to finish, wins.
Central hub
The bowls where you draw: Azul's drafting structure, simplified for age but faithful to the original idea.
Cloth bag
To reshuffle the tiles between rounds: tactility, order, and easy cleanup after the game.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Each round is a cycle of drafting and placing, repeated until someone completes their mosaic.
Draw tiles from the bag and fill the bowls in the center of the table. Each bowl has a mix of colors.
In turns, take all tiles of one color from a bowl and place them on your board, in the corresponding spaces.
Repeat until all tiles have been drafted. Then refill the bowls and start again.
As soon as a player completes all the spaces on their mosaic, the game ends and that player wins.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
I choose my design
In front of you are 6 boards with different designs. Choose the one you like: a fish, a flower, an animal. That design is yours, you have to fill it with colored tiles.
I draft from the bowls
There are 4-5 bowls in the center with colored tiles inside. Take all tiles of one color from a bowl and place them on your board. Easy, but you have to choose which color to take.
I build my mosaic
Each color goes into a specific space on the design. Fill the spaces, see the design take shape. Halfway through the game, someone is already ahead, someone has to catch up.
I speed up or wait
Only a few pieces are missing: do you pick what you need or wait for the next turn? The tension grows, the children start counting how many tiles others are missing.
First to finish wins
You complete the last space, raise your board, declare victory. Others see your finished mosaic, you are proud. The game ends immediately, no complicated counting.

To know beforehand
Three things to keep in mind
It's designed for 5-year-olds
The rules are immediate and there are no penalties to manage. If you are looking for a full Azul for older children, it is better to consider the original (8+).
The game ends suddenly
There is no point counting: the first to complete wins. This means the pace is fast but can be frustrating for those who fall behind.
Limited replayability in the early years
There are few designs (6), the structure is always the same. After dozens of games, it might be necessary to vary with other games in the same age group.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Azul Kids has an immediate victory condition: as soon as someone completes their mosaic, the game ends.
Victory
- You complete all spaces of your design before others
- You declare victory, the game ends immediately
- Your mosaic is finished, the others are not
How to fall behind
- You draft colors you don't need right away
- Others complete their designs before you
- You can't fill all spaces in time
It's the first Azul a child can truly play alone, without an adult holding half the rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Azul Kids FAQ
Is it really playable at 5 years old?
According to the publisher's information, yes: the rules are immediate (draft and place), there are no complex penalties, and the objective is visual (fill the design). Obviously it depends on the individual child, but the 5-8 year old range seems to be the declared target.
Is it a true Azul or a different game?
It's a simplified Azul: the drafting from the bowls is there, the placement on the board is there, but there are no building lines, penalties, or point counting. It's designed to introduce the mechanic, not to replicate it entirely.
How many games does it last before getting boring?
We don't know for sure yet (the game is released in August 2026), but there are 6 different designs and the structure is simple. It probably works well for a few months, then children might want to move on to more complex games.
Can it be played solo?
According to available information, no: the game requires 2-4 players and competition (who finishes first) is an integral part of the formula.
What mechanics does Azul Kids use?
Tile drafting (you pick all tiles of one color from a bowl), set collection (you collect the colors you need), and tile placement (you place the tiles in the corresponding spaces on your mosaic).
Is it available in English?
This is the Italian edition published by Asmodee. The game is language-independent (the tiles are colored, there is no text), but the rulebook will be in Italian.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Azul Kids is a board game for children designed by Michael Kiesling, intended to introduce younger players (5+ years) to the tile drafting and placement mechanics of the Azul family. For 2-4 players, 30 minutes duration, children choose a design to complete, draft colored tiles from central bowls and place them on their mosaic board. The first to complete their design wins.
