The FroGames Card
You turn the corner of the cabin. Otis is there. You have no weapons. You scream, roll the dice to escape, and meanwhile, someone else at the table is laughing because they just drew the 'Foolin' Around' card with the wrong girl.
WHAT IT IS
A '79 campsite, six counselors, and a killer in a bear mask
Camp Grizzly is a semi-cooperative survival horror game designed by Jason Topolski and illustrated by Austin Madison. It's 1979, the summer of drive-ins and VHS slashers: players take on the role of counselors at a summer camp where Otis, a serial killer obsessed with bears, roams. The aesthetic evokes '70s B-movies, from the box's font to the Cabin cards full of cameos, plot twists, and hot scenes.
At the table, counselors explore the camp, draw cards that turn the game around, search for weapons, and try to complete objectives that unlock four different endings. After each player's turn, Otis moves towards the nearest counselor and attacks. Without weapons, you panic, take damage, and run away. With a weapon, you roll dice: if you win, Otis temporarily disappears; if you lose, you take damage. The problem is that the more counselors die, the faster and more lethal Otis becomes: the body count empowers him. Whoever survives to the end wins — but reaching the end is a problem.
What they say abroad
"Camp Grizzly nails the slasher vibe: you're never safe, and someone's always about to do something stupid."
Camp Grizzly perfectly captures the slasher atmosphere: you're never safe, and someone's always about to do something stupid.
— Meeple Mountain
It's a game that makes you laugh and scream in the same turn. The Cabin cards are unpredictable, Otis is ruthless, and the ending is always heart-pounding. It's not a pure cooperative game: everyone has their secrets, and no one is truly safe until the last card.
— FroGames
Camp Grizzly
The game includes official rules for solo play: you control a single counselor and try to complete objectives before Otis eliminates you. The experience is tense and works, but it loses all the semi-cooperative component, the hidden betrayals in the cards, and the social chaos that makes Camp Grizzly so much fun with a full table.
In the camp
What you find (or what finds you)
Cabin Cards
125 cards, the narrative heart of the game. Drawing them, you find weapons, objects, character cameos, plot twists, weather cards that change the rules, and the terrible 'Foolin' Around' cards that force you to take risks for love. Every card can save or doom you.
Multiple objectives
The group must complete combinations of objectives that unlock one of four possible endings: escape, rescue, revenge, or resistance. Each ending has different conditions, and choosing which one to pursue divides the table.
Otis
The NPC killer. Every turn, he moves towards the nearest counselor and attacks. He has no intelligence, only simple and ruthless rules. But the more players die, the faster and more lethal Otis becomes: the body count empowers him.
Weapons and dice
Without weapons, you automatically panic. With a weapon, you roll dice: better weapons = higher value dice. Win the confrontation, and Otis temporarily disappears. Lose, and you take damage. Every combat is a gamble.

🎲How to PlayThe rules in four steps▼
How to Play
The Flow of Each Round
Each round is divided into two phases: the counselors act, then Otis hunts them.
In order, each player moves their counselor, enters a cabin, draws a Cabin Card, and resolves its effects. Cards can provide weapons, items, events, character cameos, or complications. Some force immediate choices.
Otis moves towards the nearest counselor (direct distance on the board). If he reaches someone, he attacks: those without weapons panic, take damage, and flee. Those with a weapon roll dice against Otis. Win = Otis disappears, Lose = damage.
When a counselor dies, the death counter is updated. Each death increases Otis's speed and lethality: he moves more spaces, deals more damage, becoming unstoppable. The group must balance individual survival and the common good.
Players check if they have completed the combination of objectives required for one of the four endings (escape, resistance, revenge, rescue). When an ending is triggered, it is resolved: those who survive win.

A Game in Five Moments
What Happens at the Table
Not the rules. The experience.
Slasher Setup
Everyone chooses a counselor (with a unique ability), the camp tiles are placed, and the Cabin deck is shuffled. Someone already makes a joke about who will die first. The atmosphere is light, but Otis is already on the board.
First Steps, First Cards
Players move, explore cabins, draw Cabin Cards. Something absurd immediately comes up: a cameo, a sudden storm, or a 'Foolin' Around' card that forces someone to choose between safety and romance. The table laughs nervously.
Otis Enters the Scene
End of the first player turn: Otis moves. He reaches the first counselor. Those without weapons panic and flee, those with a weapon roll dice. The first damage arrives. Someone realizes that dying early means powering up Otis for others.
The Moment No One Forgets
Mid-game: someone is dead or seriously injured, Otis is faster, and a Cabin Card turns everything upside down (a Plot Twist, an unexpected ally, or an Otis card that teleports him). That moment — a die roll, a choice, a betrayal — becomes the story of the evening.
The Ending (if you make it)
Objectives are complete, the ending is triggered. But Otis is now a war machine and the survivors are few and injured. Whoever completes the ending wins, but making it alive to the finish line is already a miracle. Whoever died in turn 3 is still laughing.
🐸What to Know BeforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to Know Beforehand
Three Honest Things
Elimination is Permanent
If Otis kills you, you're out. There's no respawn, no recovery. In long games with 5-6 players, someone might be sitting idle for half an hour watching. The upside: whoever dies early becomes the official commentator of the massacre, and often that's the most fun part.
Dice Decide a Lot
Cabin Cards are random, combat is resolved by dice, Otis moves predictably but cards can teleport him. If luck abandons you, you can die through no fault of your own. It's not a game for those seeking total control: it's a story generator, not a puzzle to solve.
Chaos Scales with Player Count
With 5-6 players, Camp Grizzly explodes: cards everywhere, Otis jumping from one side to another, hidden betrayals, continuous laughter. With 2-3 players, it works but is more tactical and less insane. The game is designed for chaos: if you're looking for a quiet evening, this isn't the right camp.
🏆Victory and DefeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it Ends
How to Win and How to Lose
Counselors who survive the activated ending win. But getting there is the real problem.
Victory
- Complete the combination of objectives needed to activate one of the four endings
- Pass the final test (varies for each ending type: escape, resistance, revenge, rescue)
- Still be alive when the ending successfully resolves
Elimination or Defeat
- Die from damage inflicted by Otis during encounters
- Panic without weapons and suffer too many consecutive attacks
- Collectively fail the activated ending (if Otis kills everyone before resolution, the group loses)
Camp Grizzly doesn't simulate a slasher film. It generates it at the table, with cards, dice, and real screams. Each game is a different story, and no one forgets it.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Camp Grizzly
What mechanics does Camp Grizzly use?
Semi-cooperative with rules-controlled NPC, dice resolution for combat, limited hand management (keep item cards), board exploration, player elimination, multiple objectives that unlock different endings. The core is the Cabin Cards deck: draw, read, resolve effect.
Does it play well with all player counts?
With 4-6 players it explodes: cards everywhere, Otis jumping from side to side, total chaos. With 2-3 it's more tactical and controllable, but loses some of the wild energy. In solo, it works as a survival challenge, but without the social component and hidden betrayals.
Is it really semi-cooperative or competitive?
Technically everyone wins if the group completes the ending. But Cabin Cards hide secrets, selfish choices, and temptations ('Foolin' Around' cards offer advantages in exchange for risks). No one openly betrays, but individual survival instinct creates tension. It's not Battlestar Galactica, it's closer to a light Dead of Winter.
How long does a full game last?
The box states 60 minutes, which is realistic for 3-4 players who know the rules. With 6 players including explanation, it can reach 90 minutes. Early deaths accelerate the ending (fewer players to manage, but Otis is powered up).
Is it available in Italian?
No. The edition for sale is in English (Camp Grizzly - Second Edition). The text on the cards is present and important (event descriptions, effects, cameos), so a basic knowledge of English or a translator at the table is needed. The rules are simple, but the Cabin Cards must be read.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Camp Grizzly is a semi-cooperative survival horror board game for 1-6 players, lasting 60 minutes, recommended age 14+. Designed by Jason Topolski and illustrated by Austin Madison, Camp Grizzly recreates the atmosphere of 70s slasher movies: players are counselors at a summer camp hunted by Otis, an NPC killer controlled by simple but ruthless rules. The game uses exploration mechanics, card drawing (Cabin Cards with events, weapons, plot twists), dice-resolved combat, and player elimination. The more counselors die, the more lethal Otis becomes.
