The FroGames card
You draw two cards. You have three good ones in your other hand. You play the creature, trigger the effect, chain another card, then yet another. Someone across the table grumbles.
WHAT IT IS
Small creatures, huge combos
Combo Creatures - The Quick Ones is a card game designed by Michael Løhde Andersen and Christian Kudahl, published by DV Games in 2026. Illustrations are by Jeff Hong. It is one of two standalone sets in the Combo Creatures line, each with 12 unique creature families.
Each game, you shuffle 7 of the 12 sets into the deck, deal 5 cards to each player, and reveal 5 cards in the center as a common reserve (the Wild). On your turn, you choose: draw 2 cards or play a creature. If the effect allows you to play other cards, resolve those too: that's a combo. The winner is the one who accumulates the most nuts (points) by playing the right creatures at the right time.

Combo Creatures - The Quick Ones
Your creatures
Twelve families, infinite combinations
Fast creature set
Each family has a theme: some creatures trigger immediately, others accumulate resources, others steal cards from the Wild. Combinations change every game.
Nuts (points)
Each creature is worth nuts. When you play a card, you resolve its effect and collect its value: the order matters.
Chain effects
If a creature tells you to play another card, resolve that one too. If that one triggers another, you continue: this is a combo.
The Wild
Five cards always visible in the center. You can draw them if the effect allows it, but others also see them: every revealed card is a promise or a threat.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Two possible actions, a continuous choice between accumulating and attacking.
DRAW 2 cards from the deck or PLAY A CREATURE from your hand. There is no hand limit stated in the BGG description, so you accumulate until you play.
If you played a creature, read its effect and apply it. It can make you draw, steal from the Wild, or play other creatures from your hand.
If the effect allows you to play other creatures, you play them and resolve their effects one after another. The chain continues until there are no more triggers.
If you took cards from the Wild, draw new ones from the deck until there are 5 new face-up cards. Pass the turn to the next player.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup is already a choice
Take out 12 creature decks, choose 7 at random (or not: you can choose them) and shuffle them together. You can already see that every game will be different. Deal 5 cards, reveal the Wild: everyone studies the first cards trying to understand what works with what.
The first slow turns
No one yet knows what combos exist in the deck. Someone draws 2 cards, someone plays a single creature to test the waters. The Wild empties and refills: you discover that some creatures trigger on others.
The first long combo
A player plays a creature, which makes them play another, then another. They accumulate peanuts and empty their hand in an unexpected chain. Others realize the game is deeper than it seemed.
Contention over the Wild
Now everyone fights for the face-up cards: there's a key creature in the Wild and two players want it. Who plays first? Who has the right effect to take it? Tension rises even if the rules are simple.
Quick ending, immediate rematch
Someone plays the last big combo and finishes with the highest score. Deck depleted, peanuts counted, winner declared. Everyone wants to play again immediately with another 7 sets to see what happens with different combinations.

Before you know it
Three things to know
Total asymmetry every game
Choosing 7 sets out of 12 means that each game has a different pool of abilities. You don't memorize fixed strategies: you have to read the deck each time. If you're looking for a game where you optimize a definitive build, this isn't it.
Conditional drawing, not constructed deck
You don't build your deck before the game: everyone draws from the same central pool. If an opponent draws or takes the creatures you needed from the Wild, your plan falls apart. Luck matters.
Fast but not deep
20 minutes means few moves per player. Combos exist but there's no time for long-term strategies. It's a filler, not a board game puzzle: expect immediate fun, not hours of thinking.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The BGG description does not specify an explicit end-game condition, but it is implied that the game ends when the deck is exhausted or based on points.
Victory
- Accumulate more peanuts (points) than other players by playing creatures
- Build long combos to maximize points in a few moves
- Control the Wild by taking key creatures before opponents
How you lose ground
- You draw too many times without playing and others accumulate points
- Opponents steal your best creatures from the Wild
- You don't find synergies between cards in hand and waste turns
Combo Creatures is a modularity experiment within a filler box: the gameplay is immediate, but the meta-game lies in the choice of sets. First reading, July 2026.

FAQ about Combo Creatures: The Quick Ones
What mechanics does Combo Creatures: The Quick Ones use?
Hand Management and Set Collection. You draw cards, build combinations in hand, and play creatures to trigger chain effects. The engine is the combo: one card makes another play.
Can I mix the two standalone sets (Quick Ones and Witty Ones)?
The official description says that each box is standalone with 12 unique families. Presumably they are designed to be mixable with each other, as the system is modular, but we have no official confirmation in the available material. Wait for reviews or the full rulebook.
Is it too simple for experienced players?
The basic rules are very simple (ages 7+), but the depth depends on how many synergies you discover between the sets. If you're looking for a heavy game, this isn't it. If you want a filler with high replayability and satisfying combos in 20 minutes, it can work even at the experienced table as a game opener.
Does it scale well for 2 and 4 players?
We don't have playtest data. In theory, with 2 players you control the Wild better (less contention), with 4 it's more chaotic. With a shared deck and drawing from a common pool, the number of players changes rhythm and tension, but 20 minutes remain 20 minutes.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, FroGames sells the Italian edition published by DV Games with the localized title Combo Creatures - Piccoli e Scattanti. Cards, rulebook, and components are in Italian.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Combo Creatures - Piccoli e Scattanti (Combo Creatures: The Quick Ones) is a competitive card game for 2-4 players, ages 7+, lasting 20 minutes, designed by Michael Løhde Andersen and Christian Kudahl, published by DV Games in 2026. It uses Hand Management and Set Collection mechanics: in each game, you choose 7 creature families out of 12, shuffle them into a shared deck, and build combos by playing creatures that trigger chain effects. The modular system ensures high replayability, the Wild (common reserve of 5 cards) creates contention and interaction, the weight is very light but the combinations offer tactical depth.
