FroGames — Moments You'll Remember
Pick a card, don't look at it, stack it. For fifteen minutes you collect aliens without knowing if they're making you win or lose.
What it's about
Aliens have invaded Earth. And you're collecting them.
Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy is Tobia Botta's pocket-sized card game published by the Swiss company Naivina. In the center of the table are columns of aliens; each has a color and a leader, and no one yet knows how much it will be worth.
On your turn, you take a card from the bottom of a column and add it to your personal stack, without looking at it. When a column runs out, its Alien Leader leaves the battle and receives the next available value on the scale from -2 to +2: from that moment on, all aliens of that color are worth as much as he is.
Throughout the game, Space Galaxy makes you accumulate something you can't yet read. In the end, everything is revealed at once: that color you chased for six turns can be your treasure or your problem. Fifteen minutes, a 5×5×7 cm box, and a scoring table that turns the evening upside down.
You don't choose which alien is worth more. You choose which color you'll make run out first — and hope you've counted well.
The secret of Space Galaxy in one line
The stack in front of you grows face down. You know exactly what it contains and have no idea what it's worth: that's the whole game.
From the game experience
Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy
What you have in front of you
Four elements, zero manual
Everything you need to know to play is in these four pieces. The rest you'll discover at the final count.
The alien columns
In the center of the table. Each column is a color, and you can only take the card at the bottom — the one supporting all the others.
Your face-down stack
Every card taken goes there and you don't look at it again until the end. You remember what you took, not how much it's worth.
The Alien Leaders
When their column empties, they leave the battle — and take with them the value of all aliens of their color.
The scale from -2 to +2
Values are assigned in order of retreat: each leader who retreats takes the next available one. Whoever remains last takes what's left.
Fifteen minutes ago you didn't know those three green aliens would ruin your evening. Now you know. And you want to play again.
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The columns are standing
I open the box, empty the cards, and in thirty seconds the alien columns are in the center of the table. No one knows what anything is worth yet. Someone asks "now what?" and I reply: pick a card. End of rules.
The first card blind
I take a purple alien from the base and place it in front of me, face down. I don't look at it, I can't look at it. It's like placing a chip on a number and only finding out later if the table paid out.
The first leader abandons
A column runs out and its Leader leaves the battle. It takes the first available value and suddenly half the piles on the table make sense. Someone smiles. Someone else looks at their cards with hatred.
Now it's counting time
Few cards remain per column and everyone does the same thing: count how many are left and figure out which color will run out first. You take the card you didn't want just to avoid emptying the wrong column. This is where the game bites.
Everything is revealed together
The piles are revealed. Green is worth +2 and those who snubbed it curse; red is worth -2 and someone discovers they spent the game building their own disaster. Fifteen minutes, a shout, and an immediate request to play again.
How to play
The game flow
Four steps in total. You explain as you deal the cards, and by the second game, no explanation is needed.
Alien cards are arranged in columns in the center of the table, each with its own color and Leader. The value of these colors is not yet determined.
On your turn, choose a column and take the bottom card. It goes into your personal pile, face down: you cannot look at it until the end of the game.
When a column runs out, its Alien Leader leaves the battle and receives the next available value from the -2 to +2 scale. All aliens of that color are now worth the same as him.
At the end of the game, everyone reveals their pile and totals: each alien is worth as much as its leader. The player with the highest score wins — and those who collected the wrong color drop below zero.
Why it works
Six reasons to keep it in your bag
Value doesn't exist until it ends
No card has a score written on it that counts right away. The value is born at the end, from the order in which the leaders leave the battle. Until then, you're gambling.
You can only take from the bottom
The simplest rule of the game is also the meanest: every card you take brings a column closer to its end. Even when you don't want it to.
The -2 / +2 scale fills up on the fly
Values come into play one by one, in order of retreat. Knowing how many aliens are left in each column is the only real information you have — and everyone sees it.
A 5×5×7 cm box
It fits in your pocket, backpack, laptop bag. It's the game you pull out at the cafe, on the train, or while waiting for pizza.
Fifteen full minutes
Short enough to start an evening, tense enough to end it. And the first thing someone says at the end of the game is "let's play again".
From 8 years old, no compromises
Children understand the rule in two minutes and play on equal terms. It's not a "children's game": it's a game that children can truly win.
How it ends
One score, two sides
There are no eliminations and no attacks: everyone reaches the end. The difference is made by what you've accumulated without looking at it.
Victory
- You reveal your pile and score more points than anyone else
- You accumulated colors whose leaders retreated with high values
- You managed the order of column depletion better than the others
The risk
- The aliens you collected end up with a leader in the negative
- The more cards you have of that color, the deeper the hole
- You can't get rid of them: what went into the pile stays in the pile
Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy fits in your pocket and takes fifteen minutes. Then it takes another fifteen, because no one accepts losing because of an alien that didn't have a value yet.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy
Is it a real game or just a filler?
It's a filler, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else: fifteen minutes, a tiny box, one rule. But the decision you make each turn is real — emptying a column or postponing changes the value of everything you've already taken. It's not a casual pastime, it's a short game with a clear choice within it.
Isn't it just luck, given that the cards remain face down?
The cards are face down, but the information is public: everyone sees how many cards are left in each column and which values on the -2 to +2 scale are still free. Those who count and those who observe other players' piles play better. That said, the element of chance remains high — the final order of retreats can turn the game upside down, and that's part of the fun.
How many players can play and does it work with two?
Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy is suitable for 2-5 players. With two players, columns are depleted more slowly and you have much more control over which color will run out first: the game becomes almost a counting duel. With 4 or 5 players, the order of retreats is very difficult to predict, and that's where the game shines as a party filler.
Is it in Italian?
Yes. The box is multi-language and includes Italian, English, German, and French. The cards are almost entirely iconographic: you play by looking at colors and symbols, not text.
Is it suitable for playing with children?
Yes, the recommended age is 8+ and the rules can be explained in a couple of minutes. You need to be able to count to ten and remember what you've taken: no reading, no complicated calculations. At the end, values from -2 to +2 are added up, so even the counting remains manageable.
How is it different from other Naivina Mini Card Games?
Tobia Botta's series shares format, duration, and age range, but each title has a different mechanic. Space Galaxy is about delayed value: you collect cards throughout the game without knowing their worth and discover everything at once at the end. If you like last-minute tension, it's the meanest in the series.
Mini Card Game – Space Galaxy is a competitive alien-themed card game for 2-5 players (ages 8+, approximately 15 minutes duration). Designed by Tobia Botta and published by the Swiss publisher Naivina as part of the Mini Card Game series, in a pocket-sized box measuring 5×5×7 cm and a multi-language edition (Italian, English, German, French). Main mechanic: selection of cards from the base of common columns with hidden value scoring — each Alien Leader who retreats receives a value from the -2 to +2 scale and transmits it to all cards of their color. Fast card game, travel filler, ideal as a game to start or end an evening. Available on FroGames.it.
