The FroGames file
You've just finished a game. Someone asks: «Another one?». You are about to say yes, then you see the two new cards on the table. Teacher Alpaca looks at you. Babysitter Alpaca does too. Everything changes.
WHAT IT IS
Two new alpacas, two new strategies
This is the fourth expansion for Alpaca, the competitive deck-building game by Christian Giove, illustrated by Stefano Tartarotti, and published by GateOnGames. Like the previous ones, it adds two new alpaca characters to the base game's roster: Teacher Alpaca and Babysitter Alpaca.
Teacher takes care of training the next generation (and their abilities revolve around passing on skills), while Babysitter manages the little ones in the herd with professionalism and a pinch of hope that someone will replace them soon. Two different roles, two cards that open up fresh combinations in your deck and new tactics at the table.
What they say abroad
"Enrich your game sessions with new characters."
— GateOnGames
It's the fourth expansion in a series designed for those who want variety without overhauling the game. Two alpacas at a time, always. No revolutions, just extra strategic options and a smile when you read the flavor text on the cards.

Alpaca: Expansion Pack 4
The two new alpacas
What this expansion adds
Teacher Alpaca
«My job is to teach a trade to the new generation. Think about how many little ones I’ve helped become self-sufficient adults!» An alpaca that acts as a mentor: their abilities likely revolve around boosting other alpacas or managing the cards in your deck.
Babysitter Alpaca
«The little ones are the future of the herd, but they aren't easy to manage, you know? That’s why you need pros like me! I just hope someone replaces me soon...» An alpaca with a tough job: likely abilities linked to protection or controlling the pace of the game.
Total compatibility
These two cards are shuffled into the base game's pool (and all other expansions) without changing the rules. Draw the alpaca decks to include in the game, add these two if you want, and go.
The Fluffy Animals series
Alpaca is part of the GateOnGames line dedicated to fluffy animals. The base game has a competitive yet family-friendly deck-building soul, ironic illustrations, and a pen system that makes you smile. This expansion extends its life without weighing it down.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round (unchanged)
The expansion does not affect the rules. It only adds two alpaca decks to the pool from which to draft during setup.
You start your turn with 5 cards in hand. These are alpacas, pens under construction, and coins. You must decide what to play and what to buy.
Each alpaca has an ability (if you play it for the ability) or a coin value (if you play it to buy). The Teacher and Babysitter follow the same logic, but with new effects.
You use the generated coins to buy new alpacas from the central market. If the Teacher or Babysitter are available, they can join your deck.
End of turn: discard your hand and played cards, then draw 5 new cards. Your deck grows, combos multiply, and pens get filled.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table (with the new cards)
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup with a surprise
You prepare the alpaca market as usual. Then someone says: "Should we add the Teacher and the Babysitter too?" You shuffle them in. The game hasn't even started yet, and you already know it will be different from the last one.
First purchases, first doubts
You are building your deck. The Teacher Alpaca appears in the market. You think: should I buy it now or wait? You don't know the ability by heart yet, but you sense it could change your plan. Someone beats you to it.
Unexpected combos
You draw the Babysitter along with an alpaca you had from the base game. Together, they do something you couldn't do before. It's not a revolution, but it's enough to make you smile and say: "Ah, that's why I took it."
The race for pens tightens
Final turns, the pens are filling up. Someone has built a whole new strategy around the Teacher. You focused on something else. The final score will be tighter than usual because no one knows the new cards well yet.
"Another one, but let's change the alpacas"
You count the points. Whoever wins, wins. But the phrase that always comes up is: "Next game, let's take out the Teacher and add the two from Expansion 2." The replayability of Alpaca lies entirely in this: every setup is a slightly different game.
🐸Good to knowThree honest things, from friends▼
Good to know
Three things to know
The base game is required
This expansion contains only two alpaca decks (Teacher and Babysitter). It is not standalone: you cannot play without the base Alpaca game. It is an add-on for those who already own the game and want to extend its life.
Minimal but consistent boost
Two alpacas don't turn the game upside down. If you are expecting new mechanics, new materials, or additional rules, you will be disappointed. It is a micro-expansion: more variety, zero complexity. Perfect for those who love Alpaca just the way it is.
Cumulative effect with other expansions
GateOnGames has published several Expansion Packs for Alpaca (this is the fourth). If you accumulate them all, the pool of available alpacas grows considerably and the setup becomes much more variable. But each expansion on its own adds very little. The true value lies in the complete collection.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat counts in the end▼
How it ends
How to win (unchanged from the base game)
The expansion does not modify victory conditions. The game ends when the market's alpaca decks are exhausted.
Victory
- Every alpaca in your pen is worth points (the rarer it is, the more it's worth)
- Bonus cards purchased at the end of the game add extra points
- The winner is the one with the highest score, totaling alpacas + bonuses
What holds you back
- Deck too diluted: you buy too many different alpacas and never draw the right combos
- Pens full too soon: you have no space for high-value alpacas
- Opponents who beat you to the market and take the alpacas you needed
Alpaca isn't a deep game, but it is damn replayable. Each expansion extends that replayability by an inch. Is that enough?

Frequently asked questions
FAQ about Alpaca: Expansion Pack 4
Do I really need to buy all the Alpaca expansions?
No. Each Expansion Pack adds only two alpacas. If you play Alpaca once a month, the base game is enough for years. If you play it every week and start memorizing the combos, the expansions keep the variety high. It depends on how often you play.
Can I use just the Teacher or just the Babysitter, or do I have to include both?
You can use them however you like. During setup, you choose which alpaca decks to include in the market (the rulebook suggests drawing some at random). You can include the Teacher but not the Babysitter, or vice versa. Total freedom.
What mechanics does Alpaca use?
Classic deck-building: you start with a base deck identical to the others, buy cards from a central market, and build your engine. The alpaca abilities create tactical combos. Hand management, purchase optimization, race for points. Light but not trivial.
If I only have the base game, which expansions should I buy first?
We don't have enough data to recommend an order (Expansion Pack 4 has just been released). In theory, they are all equivalent: two alpacas each, same format. Choose based on the illustrations or the flavor text that intrigues you the most.
Is the edition for sale in Italian?
Yes, this expansion is published by GateOnGames in an Italian edition. The cards have text in Italian, and the rulebook is in Italian. Alpaca is language-dependent due to flavor text and alpaca abilities, so the language matters.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who illustrated it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.
Alpaca: Expansion Pack 4 is a micro-expansion for the competitive deck-building game Alpaca by Christian Giove, published by GateOnGames. It adds two new alpacas (Teacher and Babysitter) to the pool of available characters, expanding strategic options without changing the base game rules. Games for 2-4 players, duration remains 30 minutes, recommended age 10+. Illustrations by Stefano Tartarotti. Compatible with all other expansions in the Fluffy Animals series.
