The FroGames Sheet
You're about to open the new boss's envelope. You don't know what to expect, but you know that the Mad King hasn't lost a battle in a thousand years. And Rosella, the merchant, looks at you with that smile that says: 'You stocked up on potions, right?'
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
More challenges, more bosses, more ways to face the Mad King
Dice Throne Adventures: Unchained is an expansion for Dice Throne Adventures, designed by Nate Chatellier, Dustin DePenning, and John Heidrich and published by Roxley. Released in 2025 after a Kickstarter campaign, it adds a new boss, new minions, new loot cards, and unreleased game modes to the cooperative universe of Dice Throne.
This expansion requires Dice Throne Adventures to function and at least one hero set from Dice Throne (Season 1, Season 2, Marvel, X-Men, Deadpool or Outcasts). Unchained expands the cooperative dungeon crawl with new adversaries, equipment, and scenarios that promise to refresh the experience of the journey to the Mad King's throne.
What they say abroad

How to Play
The flow of an Unchained session
Unchained integrates into the Adventures system by adding new elements to the familiar phases.
Shuffle the new minions and loot cards into their respective decks. Choose the mode (standard campaign with a new boss, cooperative variant, or solo scenario).
Heroes explore tiles, face minions (including new ones from Unchained), collect loot and gold. The new minion mechanics alter tactics and risks.
Between scenarios, visit the merchant Rosella to buy new loot cards and power up heroes with permanent upgrades. New items open up unprecedented synergies.
Face the end-of-campaign boss — with Unchained, it might be the new, unique adversary. Win to complete the campaign and unlock secret legacy content.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Choose your path
Open the Unchained box and shuffle the new minions with those from Adventures. Decide which mode to try: extended campaign, short scenarios, or one of the new variants. Rosella welcomes you with items you've never seen before.
The first unique minion
Draw a new minion card. Its abilities are different: it attacks in ways you haven't yet learned to handle. Look at your hero abilities, the dice, and realize you'll need to cooperate more closely than before.
Unseen loot
One of you draws an Unchained loot card. Reads the effect aloud. Someone says 'This changes everything for my hero'. You start planning future sessions, thinking about the new possible synergies.
The boss you don't know
Reach the final room. The new boss is revealed. It has mechanics you've never faced: chain attacks, multiple phases, new conditions. The first time you lose. The second time you learn. The third time you make it, maybe.
Session end, new curiosity
Close the box knowing there are other modes to try, other minions to meet, other loot to unlock. Unchained has added layers to the game you thought you knew well. And Rosella keeps smiling.
🐸What to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to know beforehand
Three things to consider
Requires base Adventures
Unchained is not standalone: you need Dice Throne Adventures to play. And Adventures itself requires at least one Dice Throne hero set (Season 1, 2, Marvel, X-Men, Deadpool, or Outcasts). The total investment is significant.
Luck of the dice
Like all Dice Throne, dice rolling is central. You plan, you cooperate, you optimize... then you roll poorly and the tactic falls apart. Abilities mitigate, but luck always has a say.
Multi-session campaign
The campaign unfolds over multiple evenings. It requires commitment and a stable group to fully experience progression and permanent upgrades. It's not a single-night one-shot.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Unchained maintains the victory and defeat conditions of Adventures, adding new challenges and bosses.
Victory
- Defeat the final campaign boss (including the new Unchained boss)
- Complete the cooperative or solo scenarios of the new modes
- Unlock legacy content at the end of a victorious campaign
Defeat
- All heroes in the party are eliminated during combat
- Fail the conditions of a specific scenario in the new modes
- The final boss defeats you before you can beat them
Unchained is the expansion for those who have already experienced Adventures and want more challenges, more content, more reasons to return to the Mad King's realm.
