You receive a package with no sender. Inside are cards you've never seen, artifacts manuals don't mention, items that change the cards you thought you knew. The game doesn't ask you to learn new rules: it asks you to forget certainties.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
The last expedition to the mysterious island
Lost Ruins of Arnak: Surprise Shipment is the latest addition to the vast and mysterious world of Arnak. Designed by Mín and Elwen, the Czech duo behind the award-winning Lost Ruins of Arnak, this expansion closes the narrative and mechanical loop on the island. Illustrations by Ondřej Hrdina and Milan Vavroň accompany this final exploration.
The expansion includes 50 new cards (30 artifacts, 20 items), two new sites, and an updated site. It doesn't change the rules: it amplifies the possibilities of the base game and all previous expansions, adding strategic options without increasing complexity. It integrates with all published Arnak expansions and fits perfectly into the Adventure Chest for those who already own it.

— Czech Games Edition
Surprise Shipment is an expansion that doesn't force novelty: it enriches the Arnak ecosystem with cards that integrate into existing strategies and offer unprecedented combinations. For fans of the series, it's an elegant farewell, without major upheavals. First reading, July 2026.

Lost Ruins of Arnak: Surprise Shipment
The base game includes the Rivalry automa, a deck of cards that simulates a competent opponent. The new Surprise Shipment cards integrate into the existing system without modifications: the solo experience remains complete, but loses the blocking dynamics and opponent reading of multiplayer.
What you find in the package
50 cards to reshuffle strategies
30 new Artifacts
New permanent cards that add to the existing pool: some enhance already strong archetypes, others open up never-before-seen combos. They are drawn and bought as always, but they change the market meta.
20 never-before-seen Items
Disposable cards with immediate effects. They integrate into the deck and offer tactical solutions for specific situations: unlocking a site, overcoming a guardian, accelerating research.
2 New sites to explore
New locations that add to the board: different rewards, guardians with fresh mechanics. They expand the map without rewriting the exploration rules.
1 updated Site
An already known location that receives a variant: same place, new possibilities. A small twist for those who thought they knew the island by heart.

🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each round
Surprise Shipment doesn't change the turn system: it integrates into the base game without adding phases.
You play cards from your hand, place archaeologists on sites (including the two new ones), buy artifacts and items from the market (now with 50 more cards in the pool). The mechanics remain identical.
Discover new sites or excavate those already open. The two new sites offer different rewards and guardians with new challenges, but they are managed with standard exploration rules.
Move up research tracks using resources. New artifacts can accelerate or optimize this movement, opening alternative strategies compared to the base game.
At the end of the round, workers are removed, played cards are discarded, and you advance on the round track. After 5 rounds: final point count and victory.
⏱️Your first gameThe chronicle, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
The market is different
Setup as usual, but the card deck has new faces. Someone buys an artifact they've never seen before: they read the effect twice, calculating if it combines with their usual strategy. The table slows down: everyone is re-evaluating.
The first move changes
Workers go to sites, but one of the two new ones offers a reward that accelerates research in an unprecedented way. Whoever takes it risks getting ahead of the others. Tension rises: timing matters more than usual.
Combos are revealed
Mid-game, decks are built. Someone draws a new item card that unlocks a chain of actions that didn't exist before. The others realize too late: that combo wasn't in the base game.
The ending tightens
Round 4: everyone pushes research, but new artifacts offer alternative paths. Those who focused on fresh cards can end the game unpredictably. The advantage narrows.
Score counting with surprises
End of round 5. Points are counted: research, artifacts, explored sites. Someone leveraged a new synergy and recovered 8-10 unexpected points. Wins by two. Everyone wants to replay immediately to test those cards.

What to know beforehand
Three things that really change
Surprise Shipment is not standalone: it requires Lost Ruins of Arnak to function. It's designed for those who already know the system and want to expand the card pool without overhauling the rules. Without the base game, it's useless.
The 50 new cards increase replayability but don't add mechanics. If you're looking for a structural twist (new phases, new systems), this expansion doesn't offer it: it's pure content variety.
It combines with Expedition Leaders, The Missing Expedition, and Adventure Chest without conflicts. But the more expansions you mix, the harder it becomes to balance the initial setup: the market can become too varied or too diluted.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
The victory system remains identical to the base game: points from research, artifacts, explored sites, and defeated guardians.
Victory
- Advance on research tracks: each step is worth increasing points
- Collect high-value artifacts (new cards offer unprecedented options)
- Explore and excavate the most lucrative sites, including the two new ones added by the expansion
Defeat
- Fall behind on research: those who don't advance lose decisive points
- Build an inefficient deck: wrong cards = wasted turns
- Ignore guardians: end-game penalty for uncleared sites
Lost Ruins of Arnak remains a game of optimization and timing. Surprise Shipment doesn't change the target: it gives you more arrows to hit it.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Lost Ruins of Arnak: Surprise Shipment
Do you need the base game to play Surprise Shipment?
Yes, it is mandatory. This is a pure expansion: it adds cards and sites to the Lost Ruins of Arnak base game, but does not include boards, rules, or components necessary to play independently. Without the base game, you cannot use it.
Can it be combined with other Arnak expansions?
Yes, it is compatible with all of them: Expedition Leaders, The Missing Expedition, Adventure Chest / Twisted Paths. The cards mix into existing decks without conflict. The publisher has confirmed that it also integrates perfectly into the Adventure Chest for storage.
What mechanics does Lost Ruins of Arnak: Surprise Shipment use?
Deck-building (you build and optimize your deck throughout the game), worker placement (you place archaeologists on sites for actions and resources), resource management (you use coins, compasses, tablets to buy cards and advance in research). The expansion does not add new mechanics: it expands the pool of existing cards.
Does it increase the complexity of the base game?
No. The new cards follow the same rules as those in the base game: they are bought, played, and resolved in the same way. The complexity remains unchanged, only the variety changes: more options in the market, more possible combos, more strategic paths. Ideal for those who have already explored the base game and are looking for freshness.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. The Lost Ruins of Arnak base game has had Italian localizations for some expansions (Adventure Chest via Cranio Creations), but at the moment there are no confirmations of an Italian version of Surprise Shipment. The cards contain text, so knowledge of English is necessary.
