The FroGames Card
Your vehicle crosses the border between Dag and Natt. On one side, oceans under perpetual light, on the other, ice and eternal darkness. The atmosphere empties; you release dropstones to restore it. The planet fights back. You endure.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A tidally locked super-Earth with two radically different faces
Module 2 – Terraforming Earth brings Arrival, the new sci-fi strategy game by Phil Eklund, Paweł Garycki, and Matthew Rozanski (published by Ion Game Design), to LHS 1140b. A real exoplanet 49 light-years away, a super-Earth with five times Earth's mass, tidally locked around a red dwarf. One side always illuminated, the other always dark.
This module introduces vehicle travel mechanics between the two hemispheres, extreme climate events (hypercanes that drain the night atmosphere, dropstones to restore it), and new challenges related to water dissociation and thermal tides. The planet is not a passive backdrop: it's a dynamic adversary that responds to your actions.
What they're saying abroad
"Terraform, uplift, or escape in Arrival."
Terraform, uplift, or escape in Arrival.
— Ion Game Design
Module 2 is the second expansion for Arrival. Published data is still limited: this card is based on the official publisher description and will be updated once we've played the module at the table.

Arrival: Module 2 – Terraforming Earth
The base game supports 1-6 players, so the module should retain the solo mode. Without published details, we cannot evaluate whether the travel and climate mechanics work better in solo or multiplayer.
Module elements
What Module 2 adds to Arrival
Vehicle travel
You move vehicles between Dag (day) and Natt (night), crossing the terminator. Each hemisphere has different resources, dangers, and opportunities.
Hypercane
A devastating weather event that drains the atmosphere on the night side. If you don't intervene in time, your outpost loses protection.
Dropstone
Volatile materials you release to restore the atmosphere. A key resource for surviving extreme events.
Water dissociation
Water can separate into hydrogen and oxygen under extreme conditions. A risk to manage or an opportunity to exploit.

How to play
The flow of each round
Module 2 integrates into the Arrival engine by adding climatic and movement layers. The precise flow is not yet public.
Draw or reveal the turn's event: hypercane, thermal tide, water dissociation. Each event has different effects on Dag and Natt.
Perform standard Arrival actions (construction, terraforming, research) plus new module actions: move vehicles, release dropstones, manage atmosphere.
The event resolves. If the hypercane is active, Natt's atmosphere decreases. If you have active dropstones, compensate for the loss.
Update tracks, regenerate resources, prepare for the next turn. The planet never rests.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
First landing
Choose where to land on LHS 1140b. Dag, the illuminated side, has oceans and potential life. Natt, the dark side, has ice and volatiles. The choice defines the first turns.
The climate reacts
The first climate event hits. If you're on Natt, the hypercane begins to drain the atmosphere. You must decide: invest in dropstones immediately or focus on expansion?
Crossing the terminator
Move vehicles between day and night. Each trip is an investment: fuel, time, risk. But the resources you find on the other side can change your economy.
Critical atmosphere
Natt's atmosphere is almost depleted. Those with dropstones survive, those without lose settlements. The thermal tide introduces a new variable: nothing is stable.
Final balance
The planet is still hostile, but you have built a system that resists. Dag and Natt are connected by established routes. Whoever best balanced expansion and survival wins.

Three things to consider
Requires the base game
Module 2 is an expansion. You cannot play it without Arrival, the Ion Game Design base game. Make sure you have that first.
Steep learning curve
If Arrival follows the Eklund tradition (High Frontier, Pax, Bios), expect dense rules and scientific simulation. It's not a gateway: it's for those who love complexity.
Data not yet complete
Duration, recommended age, and weight are not published. The game is scheduled for early 2027: this page will be updated when we have more information.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Victory and defeat conditions depend on the base Arrival scoring system, modified by the module.
Victory
- Victory points from settlements on both hemispheres (Dag and Natt)
- Terraforming objectives completed despite climate events
- Consolidated network of vehicles and routes between day and night
Defeat or elimination
- Natt's atmosphere depleted without available dropstones
- Settlements lost due to unmanaged climate events
- Water dissociation destroying critical resources
A planet that fights your presence and mechanics that translate real physics into tabletop choices. Module 2 is for those who want uncompromising strategy.

FAQ about Arrival: Module 2 – Terraforming Earth
Can I play Module 2 without the Arrival base game?
No. Module 2 is a modular expansion that requires Arrival to be played. It is not standalone.
What mechanics does Arrival: Module 2 – Terraforming Earth use?
Vehicular travel between hemispheres, dynamic atmosphere management, climate events (hypercane, thermal tides), release of dropstones to restore atmosphere, water dissociation. It integrates with the terraforming and construction mechanics of the base game.
Is it suitable for those unfamiliar with Phil Eklund's games?
Difficult. Eklund's games (High Frontier, Pax, Bios) are known for scientific simulation and high complexity. If you're looking for a gateway game, start with something else. If you love a challenge, Arrival is perfect.
How long does a game with Module 2 last?
Not yet communicated. The base game Arrival does not have a published duration on BGG. Considering the expected complexity, expect at least 2-3 hours for full games with modules.
Is it available in Italian?
The edition for sale is in English. No localized editions have been announced at this time. The game will be published by Ion Game Design in 2027.
