Open the gates of the ancient fortress. Inside, seven creatures await you in the catacombs: the Flux that changes shape before your eyes, the Ravager that forgives no mistakes, the Infestation that transforms the very ground. This time the danger comes from underground.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT
Beneath the surface of the wild world, other leviathans await
Deepvale is the first expansion for Leviathan Wilds, the cooperative boss battler designed by Justin Kemppainen (Imperial Assault) and illustrated by Samuel R. Shimota. Published by Moon Crab Games in 2025, it brings the climber experience to the underground catacombs of an ancient Old Kingdom fortress, where forgotten secrets mingle with crazed crystals.
The expansion adds 7 new leviathans with unique mechanics (including Flux, Ravager, Infestation), 1 new climber (Edge, who makes the most of the Focus mechanism) and 1 new class (Harvester), increasing the possible combinations from 64 to 81. Each leviathan continues to live on the spiral-bound pages of the board book, and the cooperative structure remains identical: climb, dodge devastating attacks, shatter crystals to save the creatures. Deepvale integrates perfectly into the base game without adding superfluous complexity.
What they say abroad
"an excellent expansion, the kind you can immediately throw away the box"
an excellent expansion, the kind you can immediately throw away the box
— Meeple Mountain
Deepvale integrates seamlessly into the base game. After a few games you forget it wasn't always there. The expansion is essential: more leviathans, a climber and a class. Nothing else. And it's this cleanliness that works.

Leviathan Wilds: Deepvale
Leviathan Wilds is designed for solo play exactly as for cooperative play. The leviathan reacts via its event deck, and you control one or more climbers coordinating their actions. The experience is complete and changes nothing compared to multiplayer: same pace, same tension, same difficulty curve. Deepvale maintains this philosophy intact.
What this expansion adds
The new underground arsenal
Flux
The leviathan that changes shape during the game. The ground you tread on now might not exist in two turns. Requires constant adaptation and spatial memory.
Ravager
Brutal and direct. Positioning errors are immediately paid with heavy damage. The boss for those seeking high-intensity tactical challenges.
Infestation
The leviathan that infests the very ground: spaces that become dangerous, areas that spread. You must control the map while climbing, not just the creature.
Edge & Harvester
The new climber leverages Focus (an underrated mechanism in the base game), the new class introduces resource gathering and conversion abilities. 81 possible builds, now.

How to play
The flow of each round
Deepvale does not change the structure of the base game. Each turn follows the same cooperative rhythm: events, actions, reactions.
The active player draws a card from the leviathan deck. It can be a targeted attack, a forced movement, an environmental effect (e.g., the Flux terrain changes configuration). It is resolved immediately.
The active climber plays cards from their hand to move (jump, climb, glide), attack crystals, use special abilities. Each card has multiple uses: choose how to spend it. The new Edge and Harvester cards offer unprecedented options related to Focus and gathering.
If the climber loses grip, they fall a level or are knocked away. If health reaches zero, they are eliminated. Cooperation is key here: other climbers can help with support cards or strategic positioning.
You win if you destroy all crystals on the leviathan. You lose if all climbers are eliminated, or if the leviathan's event deck runs out (game timer). Each Deepvale leviathan has unique rules that modify these basic conditions.

What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup: choose your danger
Open the spiral-bound book to one of the 7 new leviathans. Read the special rules: the Flux changes shape, the Infestation spreads spores. Build your climber's deck by mixing character and class. Edge + Harvester? Or a mix with the base game? 81 possible combinations. Position the climbers on the leviathan's grid. The catacombs are dark. Let's go.
First turns: mapping the terrain
Move, jump, cling. The leviathan draws a card from its deck: targeted attack, forced movement, environmental effect. Deepvale's special blue terrain changes function depending on the boss you face. With the Flux, that square you're on might disappear. You start to understand the attack patterns. Or you think you do.
Mid-game: crystals shatter
You've broken half the crystals. The leviathan reacts: the event deck speeds up, attacks intensify. A climber loses their grip and falls a level. Coordination becomes vital: who distracts the boss while the other climbs towards the exposed crystal? The cards in hand are multi-use, but every choice you make closes off another path. The table fills with quick calculations and shared plans spoken aloud.
The critical moment: a wrong attack
The Ravager draws the event you didn't want. Area attack. Both climbers are in the zone. Health halved. You have to decide: burn the best cards to heal now, or risk it and push for the last crystal? Someone at the table says "let's try." The other nods. Everything is on the line in the next two turns. The leviathan shows no mercy.
End: victory or retry
The last crystal shatters. The leviathan calms down. Or not: one climber fell, the other can't do it alone, the event deck draws the final card and you're out. Victory or defeat, the game ends in 60-90 minutes. If you lost, you already know what to do differently next time. If you won, open the book to another leviathan. Six more remain to be explored.

What to know beforehand
Three things to keep in mind
Base game required
Deepvale is a pure expansion. You cannot play it alone: it requires the core Leviathan Wilds game for its mechanics, base climbers, classes, and main components. If you don't have the base game, start there.
Variable difficulty curve
The 7 leviathans have varying complexities. Flux and Infestation require more experience with the base game to be played satisfactorily. If it's your first time playing Deepvale, start with the more linear bosses and scale up gradually.
Only 2 new deck-building elements
The expansion adds 1 climber and 1 class. If you were looking for a wealth of options for deck shuffle-building, the content is measured. The 7 leviathans are the true heart of the expansion: that's where the variety and replayability lie.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Deepvale maintains the base game conditions, with small variations for each underground leviathan.
Victory
- Destroy all the raging crystals on the leviathan's body
- Some Deepvale bosses have crystals in hidden positions or protected by special effects
- The game ends immediately when the last crystal shatters
Defeat
- All climbers are eliminated (health at zero or fatal fall)
- The leviathan's event deck runs out (game timer expired)
- Some Deepvale leviathans have unique defeat conditions related to their special effects
Deepvale is not a revolution. It's the expansion that integrates, adds real challenges, and makes you forget it wasn't always there. Exactly what's needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ about Leviathan Wilds: Deepvale
Can I play Deepvale without the base game?
No, Deepvale is a pure expansion and requires the base Leviathan Wilds to function. You need the mechanics, base components, climbers, and classes from the core game to play.
Are the new leviathans more difficult than those in the base game?
It depends. Some (like Flux and Infestation) introduce more complex mechanics and require more experience. Others are aligned with the average difficulty of the base game. The expansion does not have an internal difficulty curve: you can face the bosses in any order you prefer.
Do Edge and Harvester change the game much?
Edge makes full use of the Focus mechanism, which was secondary in the base game. Harvester introduces resource gathering and conversion abilities. They don't revolutionize the mechanics, but they open up new strategies and unprecedented combinations with the core climbers and classes.
What mechanics does Leviathan Wilds: Deepvale use?
Deepvale inherits all the base game mechanics: action points, hand management, grid movement, deck shuffle-building (mixing climber + class), pure cooperative. It adds the special blue terrain that changes function depending on the leviathan.
Is this edition in Italian?
No, this edition of Leviathan Wilds: Deepvale is in English. The text on the cards is present and relevant to the game (abilities, events, conditions). Basic knowledge of English is required to play smoothly.
