The FroGames Card
You draw the red bullet. It must go in the red column, but there's already a 3. It skips. It ends up out of your sight. It hits you. Someone laughs, someone curses, the timer runs.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A frantic puzzle where bullets become patterns
Designed by Joshua Van Laningham and published by Level 99 Games in 2021, Bullet♥︎ brings the aesthetics and tension of Japanese bullet-hell video games to the tabletop. Each player controls a heroine with asymmetric powers — sound, paper, technology, gravity, triangles — and must survive increasingly dense waves of bullets. The artwork by Usanekorin, Sebastian Koziner, and Collateral Damage Studios creates a vibrant and recognizable anime atmosphere.
Each turn is played simultaneously: you draw colored bullets from the bag, place them in your personal grid (your "sight"), use actions to manipulate them, and form patterns that, once completed, remove them and send them to your opponents. The problem: when you place a bullet in a column, it skips over those already present. If it goes off the grid, it hits you. Each round, the bag fills with more bullets; the escalation is relentless.
What they say abroad
"A tense, kinetic puzzle that escalates beautifully."
A tense, kinetic puzzle that escalates beautifully.
— Meeple Mountain
First game cold: rules in 10 minutes, chaos in 3. The game naturally speeds up, no timer needed if you don't want. It's a puzzle that plays like a duel.

Bullet♥︎
The game includes eight official boss battles (one per heroine), with dedicated decks that simulate progressive attack patterns. The experience is complete and tense, but it loses the competitive interaction of multiplayer: you don't send bullets to others, you only fight the boss. Excellent for training or for those who love high-tension solo puzzles.
Your Tools
Four elements that drive the game
The Sight (personal grid)
Your 7×7 grid is the battlefield. You place bullets by color (column) and number (position in the column). If one goes off, it hits you. Managing space is everything.
Colored bullets
Each bullet has a color (destination column) and a number (how far it drops). The problem: it skips over bullets already present. A full column becomes a trap.
Pattern cards
Each heroine has patterns to complete: specific bullet configurations. Completing them removes them from your sight and sends them to opponents. It's the only way to survive.
Asymmetric powers
Each heroine manipulates bullets uniquely: rotating columns, ignoring colors, removing numbers, moving groups. Learning your power is half the victory.

How to play
The flow of each turn
Simultaneous turns, three linear phases. Escalation is automatic.
Everyone draws from their personal bag. Number of bullets = current round + modifiers. Reveal them simultaneously.
Simultaneously: place bullets in your view (color = column, number = position, skipping bullets already present). Use your character's actions to move, rotate, remove them.
If you have formed a pattern (specific configuration on your card), declare it: remove the involved bullets and put them in the opponent's (or boss's) bag. This is the attack.
Everyone adds bullets from the central bags + those received from opponents into their personal bag. You will draw more next turn. Repeat until someone is eliminated.
⏱️Your first gameThe chronicle, moment by moment▼
A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Setup and first bullets
Choose your heroine (or draw randomly for the brave). Read the power. Seems simple. Put the first bullets in the bag. Someone suggests a timer, someone says "let's take it easy". Start playing.
The first pattern completed
You draw three bullets. You place them. One jumps over another and ends up at the bottom. You use an action to move it. You complete the first pattern: remove four bullets and send them to your opponent. You breathe. For now.
Escalation kicks in
End of turn: add bullets from the center. The bag swells. Start of next turn: you draw five bullets instead of three. The columns fill up. Someone asks "can I use two actions in a row?" Yes. They do. It's not enough.
The moment everything goes wrong
You draw the wrong bullet at the wrong time. The red column is full, the new bullet jumps over everything and goes off the grid. It hits you. You mark the damage. Someone laughs. You vow revenge and complete a devastating pattern.
Victory or elimination
One player is eliminated. The others continue. The bag is bulging. You draw seven bullets. You use all actions in frantic sequence, complete two patterns in a row. Your opponent collapses. You won. Someone wants an immediate rematch.
🐸What to know beforehandThree honest things, from friends▼
What to know beforehand
Three things to know
The pace is inherently frantic
Even without a timer, the game accelerates on its own: each turn you draw more bullets, the grids get clogged, decisions pile up. Those who seek total control will suffer. It's a chaotic puzzle, not an Eurogame to optimize. If you love Azul or Splendor for their calm, this is the opposite.
Drawing luck matters
You draw blindly from the bag. An unlucky sequence of colors can bring you to your knees. Asymmetrical powers mitigate, but do not cancel the variance. A wrong hand at the wrong turn can cost you the game, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Eight heroines, eight learning curves
Each heroine plays differently. Switching from one to another requires relearning: understanding when to use the power, which patterns to prioritize, how to manage the grid. The first games with a new heroine are chaotic. This is intentional, but should be taken into account.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Different modes, same rule: survive longer than others (or the boss).
Victory
- Battle Royale (2-4): you are the last player standing
- Boss Battle (1-4 coop): reduce the boss's health points to zero before they eliminate everyone
- Score Attack (solo): accumulate the highest possible score before being eliminated
Elimination
- Take too many hits: when a bullet goes off your grid, you take damage. Too much damage = elimination
- Grid overflow: if you can't place a bullet because the column is full and it jumps out, it hits you
- Boss Battle: if all players are eliminated before defeating the boss, you lose together
Bullet♥︎ is a frenetic puzzle that plays like an arcade video game, with eight asymmetrical heroines and tension that naturally escalates. Perfect for quick, high-intensity evenings.

FAQ about Bullet♥︎
What mechanics does Bullet♥︎ use?
Pattern building (you complete configurations to remove bullets), simultaneous real-time (everyone plays together), push your luck (you draw from the bag hoping for the right colors), variable player powers (eight asymmetrical heroines). It's an action puzzle, not a traditional card game.
Can you play without a timer?
Yes, and it works great. The escalation is in the mechanics: each turn you draw more bullets, so the pace accelerates on its own. The optional timer (10 seconds per turn) adds extra pressure for those seeking the pure arcade experience.
How long does a game last?
10-20 minutes for a 2-4 player Battle Royale. Cooperative Boss Battles can be slightly longer (15-25 minutes) if the group coordinates strategies. The solo Score Attack lasts as long as you can survive: 10-15 minutes on average.
Is it too chaotic for those who love control?
Probably yes. Drawing luck matters, the pace is frantic, decisions are quick and sub-optimal by nature. If you love Azul, Splendor, or games where you can plan three turns ahead, this will frustrate you. If you love Escape or Galaxy Trucker, it's perfect.
Is it available in Italian?
This edition is in English. Pattern cards have clear iconographic symbols, text is limited to heroine abilities and boss cards. Basic knowledge of English is needed for setup and powers, but the game once underway is visual.
