The FroGames Card
Your ship sinks. Someone laughs, you swear. But you draw cards, load the cannon, and aim at the ship that just sank you. The treasure is still in play, and so are you.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
BANG! sets sail for the Caribbean: secret roles, cannons, and zero eliminations
Emiliano Sciarra, creator of the legendary BANG!, brings his hidden roles system to the open sea. Black Flag! is the latest chapter in the BANG! Game System family: same DNA of bluffing and deduction, but instead of the Wild West there are galleons, cannon fire, and doubloons. Cristiana Leone's illustrations transform every card into a piece of pirate adventure.
Each player controls a ship, plays a Captain with a special ability, and receives a secret role: Empire of Great Brittonia, Iberian Kingdom, Pirate, or Corsair. You play cards from your hand to shoot, defend yourself, accumulate doubloons, and get closer to the treasure. The twist: even when sunk, you stay in the game, continuing to fight until the end. No one leaves the table before the finale.

What you have in hand
The cards that will decide who sinks and who gets the treasure
Cannon fire
Open fire on an enemy ship. Each shot can sink, damage, or force someone to discard valuable resources. The core of the conflict.
Defenses
Dodge, repair, deflect. Defensive cards allow you to survive enemy fire and protect your doubloons. Use them at the right time or go down.
Doubloons
The currency of the Caribbean. You accumulate them by playing cards, spend them for tactical advantages, lose them when you sink. Whoever has the most gets closer to the treasure.
Captain's Abilities
Each Captain has a unique power: some shoot further, others accumulate resources, still others turn the tables with twists. Play the right card and make your mark.
🎲How to playThe rules in four steps▼
How to play
The flow of each turn
Each turn is resolved in a few seconds: you draw, you play, you shoot, you pass.
Draw cards from the deck. The number depends on your ship: intact, damaged, or sunk. Even when sunk, you still draw and play.
Play as many cards as you want from your hand: cannon shots against enemies, defenses to protect yourself, special abilities, doubloons to accumulate.
Cannon shots hit or are dodged. Doubloons accumulate. Captain abilities change the field. Someone might sink.
If someone has enough doubloons and meets their role's conditions, they can claim the treasure and win. Otherwise, it's the next player's turn.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Secret roles and suspicions
Deal out the roles: Great Briton, Iberrian, Pirates, Corsairs. Everyone knows their own goal, no one knows anyone else's. The first glances start to circulate.
The first cannonades
Someone shoots blindly, someone else responds. Defenses are activated, doubloons begin to circulate, Captains' abilities are revealed. Chaos ignites.
The first ship sinks
Someone sinks. But they don't leave the game: they still draw, still play, still shoot. Elimination doesn't exist, and that changes everything.
Treasure in sight
Doubloons accumulate, the treasure draws near. Who has the right hand to claim it? Who has the card to stop it? Temporary alliances crumble.
Conquest or sinking
The treasure is taken, or all ships of a faction sink. Victory or defeat: the table explodes in shouts, accusations, laughter. No one is neutral.

Three things you need to know before buying it
4 players is the minimum
Black Flag! starts at 4 and scales up to 8. Below 4, it doesn't work: the secret role and opposing faction system requires at least two complete alignments. If you are 2-3, this is not the right game.
Luck and chaos, not control
The cards you draw largely decide. You can have the perfect role and the wrong hand, or be sunk and draw the combo that turns everything around. If you're looking for tactical depth, look elsewhere.
No elimination = long games
Removing player elimination is a plus (everyone plays until the end), but it can dilute the pace. If a faction dominates, the game can drag on. The right group is needed to keep it alive.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
Each role has a different victory condition. The treasure is the goal, but only some can claim it.
Victory
- Claim the treasure by accumulating enough doubloons and fulfilling the conditions of your role
- Sink all ships of an enemy faction (depends on your secret role)
- Survive and accumulate resources while others destroy each other
Defeat
- Your faction is completely eliminated
- Another faction claims the treasure before you
- You end up sunk without doubloons and without useful cards to turn the tide
Black Flag! promises to be BANG! without elimination: the same formula of bluff and chaos, but no one leaves the table. Will it work? We'll find out in the next games.

FAQ about Black Flag!
Is it really BANG! with pirates or is it a different game?
It's the same formula: secret roles, opposing factions, bluff, and deduction. The main difference is the setting (from western duels to galleons) and the absence of player elimination. If you like BANG!, you'll feel right at home.
What happens when I get sunk?
You don't leave the game. You stay at the table, you draw cards (fewer than before, but you draw), you still play, you still shoot. You can also accumulate doubloons and contribute to your faction's victory. It's the big novelty compared to classic BANG!.
What mechanics does Black Flag! use?
Hidden roles, hand management, variable player powers, team-based game, and take that. The DNA is that of chaotic and interactive party games.
Does it work well with 4 players or do you need a full group?
It scales from 4 to 8. With 4 it works (two factions, basic roles), but the chaos and bluff really explode from 6 players upwards. If you have large groups, Black Flag! is made for that. With 4 players, it will still be fun but more controlled.
Is it available in Italian?
Yes, the edition sold on FroGames is in Italian, published by DV Games. Cards, rulebook, and components: all in Italian.
The people behind the game
Who invented it, who designed it, who publishes it — and what else they've done.

The big news: no player elimination; even when sunk, you continue to play until the end. Duration 30 minutes, recommended age 10+, hand management and variable player powers mechanics. Illustrations by Cristiana Leone. Available on FroGames.it.
