You turn the card. A choice, a die, someone loses health points. Then the next card makes you realize you should have chosen differently. But the die is cast, and the west shows no mercy.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT
A beekeeper, a deck of giant cards, and a western where every choice costs blood
Spire's End: Volume 2 – Episode 1 is a narrative card game for 1-3 players set in parallel to the events of Volume 1, following a solitary beekeeper and a group of strangers drawn into a bloody western of dust, betrayals, and itchy trigger fingers. Volume 2 blends the strongest elements of the three previous releases into the most ambitious and story-rich Spire's End ever made. Designed by Greg Favro and illustrated by Bertho Horn and Charlie Potter, it's an experience for an adult audience (18+) that evokes the aesthetics of 80s gamebooks with a modern, uncompromising visual and narrative language.
You move through the game like a book: a deck of menacing cards you turn, difficult choices you make, and the story unfolding before you. In combat, you perform actions at a cost: that cost is the character's health points; every action is a risk. No more Recoup rolls: each character has a fixed amount of recovery for faster, smarter gameplay, and most encounters have a fixed number of rounds. Volume 2 introduces the new Waterfall Mechanic: a cascading system of illustrated mini-cards that branch into a path of visual choices.

Spire's End: Volume 2 – Episode 1
Primarily designed for solo play (1-3 players, but the narrative card experience remains optimal even alone). Volume 2 is standalone and does not require prior knowledge, but players of Volume 1 will recognize crossovers and shared narrative threads.
What's in the deck
Giant cards, dice, visual choices, and no character sheet
Tarot-sized Story Cards
Story cards illustrated by Bertho Horn (characters) and Charlie Potter (landscapes), 100% human art without AI, oversize 6.5 × 3.5 inches. They are the heart of the game: you turn, read, choose.
Waterfall Cards
2×2 inch mini-cards that cascade into an illustrated path: each image is a choice, each fork leads to a different illustration. New system for Volume 2.
Custom dice
Custom engraved 6 and 8-sided dice, red and black. You use them to resolve actions and combat, with re-roll mechanics and finesse recovered from Hildegard.
Acrylic cubes and Ally cards
You have 7 adventurers (7 chances) to face the dangers, plus ally and enemy cards with shared stats systems but distinct mechanics. No bookkeeping, just tokens and fixed turns.

The flow of each round
Flip cards, make choices, roll dice. When combat comes, you pay for actions with your hit points. When you run out of HP, you lose that character and take another.
You move through the game like a book: you flip a card from the ominous deck, make difficult choices, let the story unfold. Each card presents you with a situation, a character, a narrative crossroads.
Waterfall Cards cascade into branching illustrations: each image is a choice. Or you can read the classic text options (A, B, C) like in gamebooks. Choose, go to the indicated card.
In combat, you perform actions at a cost: the character's hit points. For stronger attacks, you spend more HP, remaining vulnerable. Every action is a risk. Finesse and Bullseye mechanics from Hildegard return with a twist.
You have 7 adventurers (7 chances) to face the dangers of the spire. No more Recoup rolls: each character has a fixed recovery amount. When a character dies, you take another and the story continues. Or ends.

A game in five moments
What happens at the table
Not the rules. The experience.
Giant cards and instant setup
Simple setup, intuitive rules, minimal components: no DM, no character sheets, just an oversized deck, dice, and cubes. Choose your character, read the first card, and you're already in the story. The West awaits you.
The first crossroads comes at a high price
The first narrative choice arrives. The Waterfall Cards unfold into a visual path: each image is a road, each fork leads you to a different illustration. Then you flip the consequent card and understand the price. Chaos begins.
Combat that burns hit points
In combat, you perform actions at a cost: that cost is your hit points. To perform stronger attacks, you must spend more HP, which leaves you weak and vulnerable. Every turn is a desperate calculation: hit hard or survive.
The card that changes everything
Most encounters have a fixed number of rounds; when they don't, there's a reason. Wild animal encounters, a fan-favorite from Hildegard, return, bringing an unpredictable rhythm between narrative events. Something goes wrong. You read it on the card. You can't go back.
One of many endings
Six chapters and fifteen unique endings to discover (given by Volume 1, Volume 2 promises a similar structure), each playthrough offers a different experience. Volume 2 will unfold in three episodes, released approximately once a year, each building on the previous one towards the saga's finale. End of Episode 1. You're already wondering what will happen in Episode 2.

Good to know beforehand
Three things you need to know
It's 18+ for serious reasons
NOT FOR CHILDREN. For adult players (18+). Contains depictions of violence, sexual content, and explicit language. The art direction is aimed at a mature audience, combat is brutal, and the illustrations do not shy away from visceral depictions of that brutality. It's not gratuitous gore, but the West of Spire's End is a violent place.
It's episodic narrative, not a tactical dungeon crawler
Volume 2 tells a complete story of its own while remaining connected to the broader world, with significant character crossovers, shared lore, and narrative threads intertwining throughout the series. It will unfold in three episodes, released approximately once a year, one per year. If you expect legacy campaigns with mechanical progression, this is different: the progression is narrative, not stats-based.
The dice decide, but choices matter
Every action is a risk; for stronger attacks, you spend more HP, which leaves you vulnerable. This creates tense, close-quarters, ruthless battles. There's push-your-luck, re-roll, luck. But the real risk lies in the narrative choices: which path you take, whom you sacrifice, when you use HP. Once the card is flipped, there's no going back.
🏆Victory and defeatWhat the ending rewards▼
How it ends
How to win and how to lose
There's no score. You win if you reach a narrative ending, you lose if you run out of all 7 characters first. But the real goal is to experience the story.
Victory
- You reach one of the narrative endings of the episode by following your choices
- You survive long enough to discover the crossovers and connections with Volume 1
- You complete Episode 1 and prepare for episodes 2 and 3 (annual release)
Defeat
- You lose all 7 adventurers before reaching an ending
- You run out of hit points in a critical combat without reserve characters
- A narrative choice leads you to an immediate death with no escape
For returning players, it will feel like coming home: Volume 2 blends the strongest elements of the three previous releases into the most ambitious Spire's End ever made. This is a card-based horror western where actions are paid for with blood.
